Just want to say thank you for these readings and interpretations! I’m just a FedEx driver, but this philosophy fills my shift with so much insight. I’m surprised to find that this pessimistic philosophy makes me happier. Schopenhauer’s honesty is so invigorating. Thanks again!
Good luck is also intimately intertwined with good looks. There's an interesting societal taboo against recognizing or debating that particular truism, for some reason...
Supported by research done by Daniel Kahneman as documented in his opus "Thinking Fast and Slow." Luck is the most powerful force in our lives. People who are successful tend to think they are primarily responsible for their success due to effort and talent, but there are usually tiny or insignificant differences in ability and discipline between the least successful and most successful. What seems to be a brilliant choice in one context leading to wealth or other success might lead to mediocre or poor results for someone else due to the huge number of unknown factors that affect the unfolding of events.
Possessing good fortune early on makes a big difference. We see this in the fact that the aristocracy or elite of any society make every effort to give their prodigy every material advantage possible while at the same time being careful to put forth a facade of work ethic and persistence in the face of adversity. This process is made even more apparent that while these elites commonly extol the value of the public (government controlled propaganda centers) schools of which although costing more per capita in the U.S. than anywhere else, in fact are at the bottom of industrialized countries. This is not an accident but of deliberate design as is clearly evident from the writings of America’s “father of education” John Dewey, who stated that the purpose of public education was to make children obedient cogs in the socialist system.
There seems to be a common situation that good and bad luck come together. You are thrown of course and land on a new tropical island. So your life changes. And you readjust your objectives.
You cant make precise movement for long term goals, make a move in the general direction. Life is like chess. We don't set an unconditional plan, we make adjustments to the player (Fate) so that our original plan won't be the same at all We are often wiser than we think. we are more foolish than we think Interesting! We make decisions based on our deep being/almost like an intuition but when we look back we will apply abstract thinking (looking at influences) that aren't helpful and just critical. Only at the end of our life can we look back and see deep influences of our core being (liable to influenced by abstract thinking that doesn't apply to us)
Isn't luck really just when something good happens and you do not know the cause? I think a lot of people see luck as an almost supernatural Force but really it's just your own ignorance of the causes of a good or bad outcome
Yeah luck can be seen as chance events that have causes too complex or far flung to explain. Which is what you are saying. But I think the key point is that a lot of good things and bad things happen to us that we can't be credited for
