When a boat submerged the horn would flood. Upon surfacing some of the water, but not all, would drain out. Thus, when the horn was next sounded the first thing out was a blast of water. I learned this from having received an icy blast of water on the back of my dungaree clad leg as I stood in front of the horn when entering port.
I can see commonalities between the sub and Mick Jagger. Both look about the same as they did 60 years or so ago...That speaks well for the sub at least...
All kinds. You bend the metal until it yields.. and since it’s a lever you can actually make a fine adjustment with a large movement. A bending brake for sheet metal or a pipe bender for tube steel uses the same principle.
What kind of air pressure do you need? I know a large volume of it but what pressure, could you bring in say in parts a gasoline powered V-twin compressor and put it in a corner of the engine room plumb in a couple y fittings into the intake & exhaust of the onboard diesels?
The Cod, tooting its own horn.
Headed to Cleveland for the July 4th weekend and looking forward to seeing the Cod!
Great to hear that USS Cod is still alive and tooting!
Very cool.
Give the Stones a blast during Can't Get No Satisfaction. Right after Keith's guitar bit. Love USS Cod videos.
Well I think now we got to see Ryan use the horn on the New Jersey 🙂.
I do believe they did a video on New Jersey's horn.
@@randyogburn2498 They did, and they've sounded it several times during the tows to the drydock and back.
Well, that "Starts me up!"
Mick might be one year older than the Cod, but just like the Cod he heads to drydock every now and then to get things all fixed up
So, how does our Airhorn sound to you? . . . .W-H-A-T. . . .W-H-A-T ?!?
Great Job, Thanks 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
That was fun! Nice impression, Paul! 🤣
You Could Make Evan Walk the Plank...Thanks, Paul, Stay Safe...Keeping History Alive...

Great story! Thanks for sharing 😂
Great video and horn test!!
Excellent!!!!
That made my Thursday afternoon. I don’t know about Mick, but I got satisfaction. Thank you!
Outstanding!!!
Hope your kidding about sending the coasties tumbling, Paul... Might provoke a response from their Canadian Kin again!
Can you play “ Paint it Black” on that thing.
At least you’re tooting outside.
Music to my ears! BZ, Cod!

I wonder what kind of precision adjustments you can get from crowbars.
It works

You can't always get whistle you want, but if you try sometimes, well you just might find you get whistle you need.
Really cool 😎
So cool!
Like to see Cod or any ww2 boat brought up to seaworthy status and how silent it would be submerged.
If it's not moving it's very quiet.
Awsome great job guys 👍
Sometimes you've just got to toot your own horn.
P.S. I'd love to get a replica of that for traffic.
Toot toot!
Heard in the Metro Wasington DC area! 😅
Would love to know how the horn's air system would have worked without external (aka fire department) support.
Thanks for the great videos!
Its own air compressor is probably run off of the diesel engines.
Two giant 3 000 psi electric compressors 😮
@@paulfarace9595 the legend himself! Thanks for the reply and additional context!
@@paulfarace9595 I would assume those are the same compressors used to de-balast when surfacing as well? Talk about critical equipment!
Let's see a submerged run.
I rember cleaning the horn at my shop! Then reinstalling it .we didnt have air to blow it.

Tremendous volume of 400-lb air.
@@paulfarace9595 I just wonder if a gasoline powered V-twin air compressor could supply the air for it.
Like for the Mick Jagger.
Does the USS Cod still have an active amateur radio station on board??
Yes
Does the Cod still have it's TDC?
Of course!
@@paulfarace9595 Have you already done a video on it?
Wouldn`t Benny Goodman or Harry James be more appropriate?
Yes, but they were not playing a concert just a few thousand feet from USS Cod... the Rolling Stones were...😅
ouch, older than aa ww2 sub. What an insult.
Do the engines still run?
Yes, they do.
😂😂😂👍
boy that was overhyped
Ohhhh were 😞 so sorry. We fired a submarine horn. What did you think we'd do?
