Why dont you do a show about people who speak twi with in proper grammar. But, are not conscious of it. This is funny but I should point out that you're kind of forcing a native to speak a foreign language. If this was in England, it wouldn't be about how well people can speak twi. Think bro. That's all I'm saying. Peace!
But English is Ghana's national language. People go to school at speak Twi, Ghanians in Ghana are taught to speak our NATIVE at home and in school sometimes AND English. So it's not quite the same as an English speaking twi. But you can compare it to a Ghanaian born abroad speaking twi because I know a lot who will struggle like him lol.
Lol, mate English became Ghana's language when the Brits colonized the land, It's an adopted language. I'm not saying people shouldn't speak English in Ghana. However, your show is poking fan at people who do not speak English, you're poking fun at people who are accustomed to their mother tongue. To put things simple. This idea of 'if you can't speak English you lack intellect' is wrong. What you're promoting are old colonial prejudice, it might be funny to watch but it's also degrading your own people at the same time.
It is somewhat degrading IN GENERAL - the pure essence of it is degrading but on the basis that his education is being indirectly mocked. ALL SCHOOLS TEACH IN ENGLISH - you cannot speak another language as people have many different native toungues in Ghana-. If you cant speak it - you haven't been educated well - that's the basis of it. He's a fairly young man so he very much had access to school when English HAD to be spoken as the main language. If it was the reverse and someone was SPECIFICALLY asked to speak their native language on a show and were switching between that language and English (e.g. on Radios where they are required to speak twi/fante etc with "proper grammar") - knowing the demographic they are reaching out to may not speak English - how is that different? In fact, it may be seen as more disgraceful than funny that he cannot speak his native language. He's effectively speaking "twinglish" which personally is funny more so because of the way he's switching between the languages DESPITE being told to speak in English only. If he was being INSULTED on the basis of his ACCENT I may have agreed with you - but not so much in this case. If I watch a show in Wales and ask someone to speak in English and they switch between English and Welsh despite being told to speak in English, you'd get a reaction. Why? Not everyone can speak in Welsh hence why they asked you to speak in English. English SHOULD be spoken well. OTHERWISE it's not part of your skill set. I know a Dutch footballer who was mocked by fellow Dutch people on his instagram because he wrote a caption in bad English...and was then mocked for speaking bad dutch (Memphis depay). Very much the same case love.

It's seen as more disgraceful by many gh parents, it's not equivalent to English as english is taught in schools but is not Ghanaian in nature. Other local languages are spoken in the supermarket, churches, on the street, radios and many public places. Part of ones identity is the language and so theres an expectation that it should be spoken. Many people speak more than one. English is not Ghanaian culture per se and doesn't give you an insight in to Ghanaian culture whereas local Languages do. Cheap jokes?
