USUM isn't much different, but we did get scammed with B2W2
not really, but Emerald is very different since Zigzagoon can yield Great Balls in that one.

Emerald i got a great ball before the third town thanks to Zigzagoon pickup. I started the game with 5 Zigzagoon on my team and level my starter and reap the pick up rewards

Now time to grind gens 5 and 6 for the lucky pickup and get the world record. (and theoretically grind gen 7 for SOS Pikipek with pickup and then get that 1/100 chance of a great ball)

for gen 3, would it have been viable to just catch a bunch of zigzagoons with pickup early on? if you fill your party with them, it's a 6% chance of a great ball per encounter, so on average 16-17 low-level encounters to get the drop, which seems very reasonable
granted, this would only work for emerald, since it has a different pickup table than r/s

I recommend you use melonDS instead of DeSmuMe to have way better performances and get rid of all the black spots on your games
Watching the timer go by while playing through the games really emphasizes just how much filler the cutscenes add in the newer games.
Sun & Moon is pretty much just 50% cutscenes, and Sword/Shield is pretty dang bad for Cutscenes too. Scarlet & Violet it was only annoying during the first hour orso at least.

man, gen 6 really was the last like "awesome" mainline pokemon game, and even that one was relatively "phoned-in" compared to gen 3, 4, & 5. maybe I'm just turning into a gen 1'er nostalgia hog, but gen 7 and on just lost a lot of the charm; kind of like the "gotta catch em all" got sidelined for the worldbuilding and story (which is fine, but I'd still like the option to button mash my way through dialogue and cutscenes).
