A beautiful set, I must say. I wonder what American modelers at the time thought of it. And cool to see a brown-and-tan 6607 transformer in use, although it looks like that one could stand a date with some rubbing alcohol. Strictly speaking, as with Bachmann's Thomas range this is actually a OO scale (1:76) set _packaged_ as HO scale (1:87) for the American market to avoid confusing American buyers about what track was compatible (as HO scale is far more common here, and American-made OO models (long since out-of-production) actually used a different, closer-to-scale track gauge; British OO uses HO track to more easily accommodate the running plates and wheel arches of many British-outline engines). And speaking of Bachmann's Thomas range, the Mainline Railways ex-Midland 57' coach and brake coach toolings used for the Royal Coach and Royal Brake Coach in this set would later be used in the Thomas range for the express coaches. The Thomas examples have metal wheels.
@@worldoftrainsother6298 thank you for an answer when other people see my question the a BS answer like "oh he keeps them in a storage unit and pulls them out when he want to play with them later." Again thank you for an actual answer.
You used to be able to buy this set from Sears, they advertised that the serial number on the bottom of the locomotive was an exclusive number with only a range of 0001-5000 obviously that was just Sears trying to make it seem like an exclusive item.
I have this train set but the piston Rod broke off I was trying to bring it upstairs in my room but I accidentally dropped it down the stairs I didn't drop the train carriages I dropped the train and I didn't drop the tracks either or the tender
Looks rather nice in the blue.

What do you do with all of the train sets when you're done?
I do have to sell some of them so I can buy new ones.
