@ibr97 ماذا and ما are both used for istifhaam interrogation i.e asking a question. ماذا is usually used with a verb while ما is usually used with a noun. we also have منذا which is used in ayat al kursi. the ذا is sometimes used for extra emphasis like in ayat al kursi. ذا can also make the interogation more specific. I will cover this in a future course insh'Allah.

@vettae If one wants to learn the peak of eloquence in the Arabic language then one has no choice but to study the Qur'an and it's beauty.

What is the difference between ماذا and ما. Both mean what? Just as we used من for proper nouns we should be using ما and not ماذا. Can you please clarify? Jazaakumullaahu khayra

first you need to decide WHICH arabic you want to learn,, the one that is used in the news (which is the same as the written arabic) or egyption arabic, arabic gulf accent, algerian arabic,,etc
trust me they are really different ..

If one says "ma alal maktabi" instead of "maza alal maktabi" , is that would be OK ?

both are correct. the first sentence is simply asking the question, the second is asking the question but also pointing to what is on the desk as one asks.
