I was 17 years old in 75 coming home from Saturday night parties .. As per usual , I’d make myself a sandwich in the kitchen and have the TV on to watch The Midnight Special , I actually remember seeing this one .. Always made sure the volume was low or my old man would come marching down the stairs yelling “ turn off the God dam TV and go to bed ! “ 😂🤷♂️
name them, please. Looks like Billy Preston on…the bongos lol. If THATS the case i wanna see this lineup play Goin’ Down. Buddy Miles, a man i used to party with 15-20 years later that i housed for a few nights…on percussion
It looks like Jeff is still using a pic but every once in awhile he palms the pic and uses his fingers like Roy Buchanan. Incredible guitar player he was. 😊
I couldn't help but immediately notice first thing Jeff was using a pick watching this so I scrolled to get into the comments and mention it and couldn't help but laugh when I saw your comment right away "I wasn't the only one" a pick and a Les Paul, the great Jeff Beck
@@aschule5684 yeah but in time Jeff would ditch that pic and start playing with his fingers totally. I think you said that one day he dropped a pic and played with his fingers the rest of the show and just kept doing it that way. It's an amazing style either way.
Yeah it’s funny coz back in 1987 I read in ‘The Guitar Handbook’ by Ralph Denyer about Jeff Beck and his music, guitars, effects, picking style etc and always assumed from listening to certain albums that it sounded like he was using a pick. Then recently on TH-cam I saw some guy blabbing on about “5 guitarists who never use a pick”, which included Jeff Beck. It just goes to show that not everything you read/see on the internet is true.
This song sure brings back memories. I played lead guitar in a fusion/rock band in the '70's and this was one of the songs we played, along with Freeway Jam. Me and the other lead guitarist played vintage Les Pauls with humbuckers but we never tried to emulate Beck. He was one of a kind.
So CooL!I Vintage wire guitars like the 50s and 60s in my area in Local Music Stores, with the PIO,Vintage tone caps,CTS 500k pots!Nuthin beats that vintage sound!Take care now!😊❤
I was lucky enough to see Max Middleton in Austin TX playing with Mick Taylor. They both played great, and Max would take over on leads while Mick would smoke a cigarette. Incredible show at The Back Room sometime in the late 80's or early 90's.
Billy Preston on the bongos. Buddy Miles on percussion. Now theres a lineup. Too bad Mr. Miles ended up a junkie in my small se Wisconsin city, no idea how he ended up here of all places sleeping at my house lol
Midnight Special was a remarkable show that brought modern music to small towns like mine with a AM radio. Rarely missed a broadcast. 17, My last week of my senior year in HS. The world was calling. Great life but I miss the optimism of youth.( And health).

Stories like yours are one of the reasons why I pay for the internet.
Gotta love the way this was Billy Preston's show and he lets Jeff come out and take the spotlight. What a man.
That's Billy freaking Preston!
There's so little video on JB from that period. Amazing! Thanks for the post!
Our pleasure!
This video screams 1975 and i love it❗❗❗👍👍👍
Bass player crushed it too!
Thanks for uploading! This was when Blow by Blow came out. One my fav JB albums
Nice all-star band!

A guitar master!!
Jeff does the funk!
The opening track on Blow By Blow complete with Les Paul and pick........ Master
Les Paul days!!! Amazing!
Absolutely 🎵
The Blow by Blow era - I preferred his music during this time period
The GOAT.
That's quite the lineup of musicians Beck is playing with.

Hybrid picking

He was a great player, and all those musicians were very talented. I could take about 2 minutes of that music though. Wahi' Valleys
Style master Jeff - he's wearing a rugby jersey under a dinner jacket.

Kkkkkkkk
You CAN with a Les Paul 😮 :)
Billy preston
フラットピック奏法の最後の頃だ。その後はサムフィンガーびきとなる。
Billy Preston on the bongos. Buddy Miles on percussion. Now theres a lineup. Too bad Mr. Miles ended up a junkie in my small se Wisconsin city, no idea how he ended up here of all places sleeping at my house lol
That’s Buddy on percussion not drums.
It’s Richard Bailey on drums here.😊
Nope. That's Ollie B. Brown (former drummer of Stevie Wonder, and percussionist of The Rolling Stones).
Yes my bad yes…. Ollie B 🥁
Hmm. A performance that doesn't really add up to much, does it?

17, My last week of my senior year in HS.
The world was calling.
Great life but I miss the optimism of youth.( And health).
That's Jeff freakin' Beck!! You can Billy's smile from the back row!
Awesome lineup. Wish I would have been there.
Wonder who was playing the harmony lines, Middleton or Preston? See Middleton had a Moog, but still not completely sure.
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day and also happy first day also week of fall ❤😊
If anyone knows the newer blues artist Jackie Venson, you can def hear how she was influenced by Beck. What a talent he was! RIP
テレビだから抑えめなプレイだね
Beck-Ola!
Who is the cameraman? He’s got the greatest guitar player in the world playing and he does a long close-up of his face?
helluvah lineup!
Indeed it is!
White keyboards like Robert Lamm had.
The Beckster. El Becko.
