Just to be clear, the facism we have to worry about is the linking of state and corporate power. This is being achieved globally through neoliberal economic policy, IMF the world bank and now private equity
Thank you so much for the incredibly lengthy, detailed, and well-thought out video you’ve created! I appreciate how accessible you’ve made the work you’re doing, and you have done such a wonderful job synthesizing a massive topic in an easy-to-understand format :) I just found your channel and will 100% be back for more!
This is a great collection of clips that you've assembled. Each "chapter" supports and interleaves. I'm hopeful seeing your excerpt of Prof Butch Ware that you see a vote that would align with your beliefs. I could imagine discussing so much of these concepts together. Well done.
It is my personal headcannon that the revolutionary figure Dragon D. Luffy of One Piece is a reference to George Jackson, Dragon philosopher! I love that you brought him in to your video.
41:00, something I remembered from this video creator who had ended up talking about how Stanley Kubrick (ex: The Shining) had created movies to create a point about the aesthetics of violence. that you could view yourself or enjoy the villains in his movies because they are thoughtfully created art. It also highlights that politics and art are creating space for acts we view as incorrect and violent as beautiful. A strong example of this as well is American Psycho. I adore this movie but it is only violence to women and others (which by the way is through a feminine lens as its director was a woman.) This further twists the idea of art used to convince us that the acts of humans are artful and not harmful. I believe politics utilize aesthetics to create frilly facades of behaviors that are used against the American people.
i am really trying to not fall into a pit of doomerism whilst acknowledging the many things you discuss in these videos. is there room for optimism? it feels intrinsic to the long term goal of how we want the world to be. is there any media on how to be an optimist during times of struggle?
That process of capitalism coopting social movements is described as "etnofagia" by mx prof Díaz-Polanco. Fascism is doing that with Judaism, they are the very same antisemites that have been propagating the Kulturbolschewismus trope for the last century, but now they endorse Yair Netanyahu's alt-right memes and the land as an American de facto colony after decades of "war on terror" against Muslims and Reagan funding Mujahideenes. The same process was done with feminism when the trope "power for women" turned into the campaign of neoliberal Hilary Clinton, same with "power for African Americans" turned into a "soft-neoliberal" Obama, now you have neoliberal funded by corporations Kamala. The issue there for me, Judaism being cooped by fascists, and other groups, started when we Jewish were being hunted by fascists or forced to Christianism, when tzarist Russian pogroms forced poor Jews to migrate to Austria and Vienna's wealthy started this xenofobic anti-migrant rhetoric against Jewish migrants or burning the work of gay Jewish socialist Magnus Hirschfeld. Meanwhile, atheist Mises was Dollfuß' advicer and Vaterländische Front member, then just start digging into neoliberal history: that is, Rothbard's collaboration with antisemites like those in Willis Carto's IHR. I find disgusting the fact that Rothbard writes letters to Carto agreeing with the n4z1 supremacy delusion but done "by the market not the State", and then you find Sowell's collaboration with them neoliberal proto-fascists and stuff like Lee Atwater's Southern Strategy, and people thinking that as a "natural spontaneous" process and not a planned organised neoliberal/proto-fascist device sold to the public as "natural" in order to protect oligarchs and corporations' private property and profit. Hey, good work. Just wanted to add one criticism/clarification. I almost entirely agree with your views expressed. I view elections as picking your opposition, a viewpoint you acknowledged. As such, I see voting as a finishing tool for politics. A final step that is important but is not foundational to the process. The administration, policies, and judicial appointments to be made will have long-term influence. That said, if you can not stomach or justify participating in that process of voting because of the international imperial violence the US enacts, I will not dissuade anyone from such a decision. However, the "democracy" of the US does not have a quorum. The government cares very little about having full democratic participation. So try to make your non-vote as a part of a larger group. This brings us back to the most important point you expressed that I fully agree with (and often fail to live up to): get organized and get active. Also, what general area do you organize from fellow Ohioan? I'm NE Ohio and mostly participate around Akron and Cleveland. Actually, I meant to ask what groups you organize with/recommend?
Harris has actually worked in all 3 branches of the government. Anyway, I'm really here for the knowledge being dropped on her and everything else. Some can see the good and bad and how they both matter.
I really think more people in the States should study the 2019 Lebanese Revolution, because more and more I find “All of them means all of them” even more relevant five years on
Unfortunately, this is not an issue that can be solved with one election or even several elections. The racism in this country is so deeply engrained into the fabric of our government that it will take unprecedented amounts of disruption to topple. I do agree that liberals do tend to get too comfortable when a Democrat is in office and that we need to continue to put pressure on our lawmakers to see the changes we want, even if we support most of their policies. However, I do not think not voting is the answer, at least not yet. I can understand and appreciate that under Kamala people will still suffer, but I also believe we have a better chance to advocate for changes in foreign policy if we are not also fighting domestic policies. I also think we need to factor in more logistics into any plan for radical change. Something that's always bothered me is the lack of accessibility in protesting. I'm neurodivergent and have social anxiety, which makes attending protests very hard. Changing the ideals our coutry lives by is a massive undertaking, and we should be finding ways to include those who have the desire to fight, but not the resources to do so. Thank you for sharing your opinion and life experience. TLDR: I think we can vote AND also organize.

I am so glad I found your channel! I don't live in the US, but this really touches the whole world... In the trolley problem that is the US election, finally there's someone asking the real question: who tied those people to the tracks and is forcing you to choose...
So, I want to offer a counterargument to all this, but first I just want to say that your points are valid, well articulated, and well received. I too desperately long for a world beyond capitalism and imperialism and fascism, and all the dehumanization brought on by those intertwined and oppressive systems. Also, your voice deserves to be heard on a much broader scale, and I hope that it can be someday... Perhaps a network like The Young Turks would be willing to host an interview? Might be worth at least reaching out to people like them. - As for my counterargument: Using your illustration of drinking toilet water when dying of thirst, I do agree that we as a society are dying of thirst, and that the two candidates (and their entire parties) are both toilet water in their own ways. One is clearly soiled by vomit and diarrhea (Trump), while the other is... "less unpalatable" at the very least? But the other huge difference is that the water representing Harris is shallow and quickly evaporating, while the water representing Trump is about to overflow and splash into the other toilet anyway. Now what shall we do? Angrily refuse to drink from either, guaranteeing that we die of dehydration before we ever find a better source of truly "clean" water, let alone finding a way to fix the plumbing? OR Risk drinking from the less unpalatable one while we still can, so that we might have just enough strength and time to survive a little longer, to keep searching and working to find and build something better elsewhere?
Look, one of them WILL be taking office, no matter how distasteful that is. That's the reality of our situation. It is going to happen, whether we like it or not. Either way, some degree of fascism WILL continue. Either way, the genocide of Palestinians WILL continue. Either way, a person with some degree of awfulness WILL be crowned the figurehead of this horrible machine of suffering, oppression, and death. Voting for the "lesser evil" is also not where the work of fighting fascism ENDS. Not even close! There is no "mission accomplished" on ANY Inauguration Day, and certainly not this one. Also worth noting, for whatever it might be worth, is the stark difference between Walz and Vance, and how that might change the scenario moving forward. (for moderately better or unfathomably worse, respectively)
My argument here is simply that voting is a relatively small thing we can do to give ourselves TIME! To give ourselves ROOM! To keep working, in all the other more effective ways we possibly can, to fight fascism. Much like paying for utilities and internet so you can make these videos, even though those bills also go toward fueling the Evil Empire indirectly. You do so, because you know your message is important, and it's a small price to pay compared for some breathing room while you work on what really matters. You do so, knowing that it allows you to use that breath to share your message to a few more people. We already live within a fascistic system! We don't "win" against that by disengaging, throwing up our hands, and letting Trump and Vance and Project 2025 get everything they want! We don't win against fascism by passively permitting them close enough to the margin of error that they can legally take office and immediately start using the police and military to round up our Latin cousins into concentration camps! Just because a genocide is being orchestrated overseas, and will continue no matter who takes power next, does NOT mean we should stand by and allow another genocide to be enacted here as well!
I honestly don't know how we "win", against any of this shit! But I do know that the only way we can have even the tiniest SLIVER of hope, is to FIRST buy ourselves just a little more time! Time to keep organizing and getting the word out there. Time to keep demonstrating and protesting in every other way within our rapidly diminishing power. Kamala Harris is NOT some kind of "savior" figure. Neither is any other politician. Nor should we think of ANY leader as such! Political, spiritual, or otherwise. "No gods, no masters!"
All I'm really trying to say here, for anyone still reading this far, is that we're in this for the long haul. Leftists are divided and infighting enough as it is, and that's exactly the way fascists want us to remain! We desperately need to be STRATEGIC about all this, otherwise there's no point at all.
The desire and rationale for opposing empire is pretty simple to me. So your counterargument doesn't work for me and probably many others. The lesser evil is just a master by a different name.
If voting is a relatively small thing in terms of change, and voting for the "lesser *EVIL*" doesn't stop a fascistic rise to power at all, then what truly is the point of voting? Our vote is used and manipulated in so many ways, our elections extraordinarily rigged, that whoever is elected into office is not representative of the people at all. Kamala Harris is not a savior figure and is also not the answer to stop the rightward shift in the US. She herself is PART of that rightward shift. Why vote Harris over Trump, when the differences mean nothing in the long term? To keep the status quo? The same status quo where police still kill civilians in record numbers, where American imperialism is strongly reinforced and continues to be devastating for the rest of the world (Palestine currently being the US's punching bag by proxy of Israel) and where many of us still struggle to pay for basic necessities, all under the supposed "lesser evil" of 2020? Is that the status quo you are so urgently pushing others to vote for? Whatever will happen in a Trump presidency is already happening and has been happening for a while. Whatever new thing Trump decides to implement will be the new thing Democrats adopt next election cycle. There is no engaging with a system designed to keep anyone but the bourgeoisie oppressed and which has shown a hostility towards anything remotely progressive that could fundamentally change the American state of affairs. The author of this video doesn't advocate for throwing our hands up and saying "nothing can be done about it"; the many points made in the video explicitly state that organizing BEYOND this sort of politics actually bring substantive change and not voting for whatever handpicked nominee we are given every four years. You don't need to vote. There is no "harm reduction". The result of the elections shouldn't affect how organizing takes place in the US, because in either scenario, the same cops will brutalize and even kill unarmed protestors, innocent civilians, and whoever else the US government deems as troublesome or worthless. There are many better things to do on election day instead of wasting your time voting for a "lesser *EVIL*".

Your videos are amazing. Thank you.

There's definitely room for optimism. I think that comes from community and taking the chances to care for each other
That process of capitalism coopting social movements is described as "etnofagia" by mx prof Díaz-Polanco.

I need to write like a paper with timestamps in order to answer all the questions. Excellent video though

29:13 that’s like not what happened in Baltimore at all tho
So, I want to offer a counterargument to all this, but first I just want to say that your points are valid, well articulated, and well received. I too desperately long for a world beyond capitalism and imperialism and fascism, and all the dehumanization brought on by those intertwined and oppressive systems.
Also, your voice deserves to be heard on a much broader scale, and I hope that it can be someday... Perhaps a network like The Young Turks would be willing to host an interview? Might be worth at least reaching out to people like them.
-
As for my counterargument: Using your illustration of drinking toilet water when dying of thirst, I do agree that we as a society are dying of thirst, and that the two candidates (and their entire parties) are both toilet water in their own ways.
OR
Risk drinking from the less unpalatable one while we still can, so that we might have just enough strength and time to survive a little longer, to keep searching and working to find and build something better elsewhere?

I'm still trying to figure out how Trump and Vance are connected to Project 2025 when they have clearly distanced themselves from it. Plus, project 2025 (previously known as Mandates for Leadership) has been around since Raegan.
