    ***1 more comparison***
    for everyone that keeps asking about the Emotiva B1+: B1+ is larger and more expensive generally selling at $299. Its more of a slight v-curve speaker where the RSL is more neutral. Overall the B1+ has a much fuller sound and a more energetic top end. If you don't need the small size of CG3M or don't have any plans of wall mounting and you have the extra $100 the Emotiva B1+ is an outstanding speaker and is an easy recommendation.

    When I was shopping for my first Speedwoofer 10s, I was looking at the packages of speakers and AVR units that RSL offers on their website. Though the ship has sailed for having a need for these speakers, they sound intriguing. I would have had a lot of fun with them I think. My bedlayer for the theater ended up being Elac Uni-fi Reference and 2.0 speakers.

    • @raulgarcia1718
      @raulgarcia1718 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AromaFrank they are almost neutral but have a very slight mid bass bump. They have a tweeter adjustment knob so you can keep them neutral, roll them off slightly or get a slight treble bump to account for the room and or taste. I would describe them as natural sounding and dynamic, similar to the Boston acoustic sound signature of old. I have the Elac bs41’s and I say use Nemo’s cg3 comparison but add a tight accurate bass presence to the RSL side.

    rsl history factoids: they were a west coast regional brand that were much loved. vintage rsl's still go for good money on ebay. they're family owned and they went through a bankruptcy reorganization about 15 or 20 years ago. when they reopened after the reorganization, they only sold a cheapo 2.1 computer desktop system with tiny satellite speakers that were built for them in china. this was when 2.1 and chip amps were still a new thing. i bought a set for my small nyc bedroom. i still use them everyday and they are damn good for what the are.

    I like really small speakers. Bookshelf/standmount guy and it's difficult to find a decent small speaker for a reasonable price. I bought my speakers on closeout so saved alot off retail. I would like to hear these someday.
    Out of trying many speakers, I have kept Triangle Zeta Plaisirs and Dali Opticon 1 MK1s each driven by a Keces E40 integrated. Could call them a mini system as everything is small but the sound within moderate limits is nice and competes with much more expensive products. Just add dac and player of choice, done. These combos could even be an endgame solution for many. While the Zetas work a bit better midfield, the Dalis do well and give a nice, tight image nearfield. Compared with higher priced gear I tried, the "better" speakers often aren't as pleasing overall, being either too refined (details missing or too subdued) or difficult to drive due to very much below 4 ohm impedance. Around 4-6 ohms seems to be the performance sweet spot for mini speakers. Some need gobs of power/current so you'd need a bigger, more powerful and more costly amp.
    While my Hegel/Focals are categorically better and play much louder, and serve better in a larger room, as well as being bigger/heavier, I am just as pleased listening to the above mentioned budget gear. Different sounding but still satisfying. Today I will hook up an Aune/Sparkos combo to see if it adds to the SQ it purports to from other reviews.
    If I were to move up from my budget system in SQ, capability, etc...it would cost many times more. If I were to take the next leap up without buying overly large and heavy, the speakers would definitely be near a grand or more, even double or more. Down the road I would like to try either an Exposure 2510 or Belles Aria, or go class D from among many of the reputable companies today on perhaps a few small but highly regarded speakers if available. But there are many other options at that price point as well. Though the price could climb to $4 to $5K. We'll see. Don't think I really need that. I will likely sell the Hegel /Focal becasue it's overkill and more than I need for my small space, but glad I tried that gear and enjoyed it well enough. For my needs, I am happy knowing how to put together something at a lower budget that has synergy together. I call that being a banana box audiophile as everything can fit in a banana box.
    For a budget product, this speaker being reviewed fits among a few other speakers which can be had at or under $300. Today, one could build a very decent sounding , capable system for $500-$600 even buying new if you wait for discounts/sales/closeouts, etc.
    I think the above systems I put together range about $1.1k to 1.4K, which is very much budget by today's standard. Amp/speakers/dac/cables and a used CD/BR player as a transport. Probably add a used sub if you need the bass by picking one up on CL or pawn shop for cheap. Add an Aiyima A07, budget dac and used BR player and you can go to town for cheap. Vinyl would up the ante (not a cheaper alternative), but CDs, streaming, etc., and you have a fully capable system.

    Thanks for being real about the SSCS5's. I picked up a pair just to see what the hype is about. At lower volumes they perform well for cheap speakers but they completely fall apart as the volume goes up. The cabinet is extremely cheap as well as the rubber surround on the woofer and it sounds wobbly. I returned them. IMO they are not worth it, you're better served spending a little more to get a more stable speaker, like perhaps this RSL cg3.

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, cheaper speakers all have their limits or compromises, for the RSL it's bass, it just doesn't have any but it'll be perfect for anyone looking to get started with a mixed system, as budget allows they can move the CG3M to rears as surrounds and replace the front stage with something larger.

    As a follow up to my comment below, I have ended up buying a pair of these RSL CG3M speakers. I had first heard of them on Randy, Cheap Audio Man's page, but I been here as well as checked them out with many other reviewers. In the end, I figured that these would do the job as replacements for the Cambridge Soundworks satellite speakers I been using on my computer system. So I purchased them and hooked them up to my system. While the overall sound is FAR better than with the Cambridge satellite speakers (which are single cone drivers in a tiny cube box), I have noticed a rather pronounced 'bonk' or resonance at around the 350hz area. I was wondering if the OP or anyone else that has these has experienced this as well. I have the speakers right on my desktop and they are only a few inches from the wall. I cannot bring them further from the wall. I had turned off the subwoofer to confirm that the bonk was indeed coming from the RSL's, and it was. To mitigate it, I had to reduce the 250hz and 500hz controls almost 4db! It does sound nice now, but there is still a hint of that 'boxy' sound there. I am wondering if anyone else had experienced this as well.

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi bro, I did not experience that at all, it could just be how they're interacting in the space causing a rise in that freq band so taming it as you've done is the right thing to do. A 4dB adjustment isn't too wild, I've seen some rooms have spikes as high as 19dB!!!!!! Anywho, just eq it out and you should be good to go! The only other thing I might suggest is you try placing the speakers on something absorbent just to make sure its not the speakers & the desk interacting together, easy way to test that is just to lay down a a few towels across the whole desk and put the speakers on top of the towel in the same location they're usually in.

    • @jukingeo
      @jukingeo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NemoPropaganda I figured if one of the reviewers came across the peak, they would have mentioned it, but no one has mentioned it. Yet, I am getting it. I had flipped the speakers around, putting the tweeter on top, but that didn't seem to do anything. I will try the towels, but I think I might have to get the speakers up off the desk and put them on stands, trying to get the tweeters closer to my ears.
      Thanks!

      @@jukingeoSomething like the Kanto SE2 might be all you need and they're pretty inexpensive, they also make a shorter version and a larger version, check them out on amazon or their website :) Every Kanto product I've had was made pretty darn well. Conversly you can try stacking a few books under each speaker just to see if it helps before spending the money on the Kanto desktop stands :)

    • @jukingeo
      @jukingeo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NemoPropaganda Thank you for the tip off on those stands. I was thinking the same thing about somehow finding something to elevate the speakers to at least bring the tweeter up to my ear level more. I guess there is a reason why the woofer is on top, as I tried to flip the speakers (tweeter on top) and it seemed a bit harsher sounding that way. It could be me in a way as well because the Cambridge speakers were a bit shallow in that very same region and now that it is fuller there, I am not used to it, but one thing is certain. There is that boxy sound which doesn't seem to go away. I will try raising the speakers next. But if that doesn't do it, I might be looking into other alternatives because the boost I am getting at 350hz is a bit much. On an upnote though, the stereo separation and imaging is FAR better on these than with the Cambridge satellites. I am thinking of changing the amp too and I do want to go back to my old Hi-Fi routes and hook these up to an old Hafler DH-120. I had the XL-280 years ago and sold it. It was an act that I regret doing as the Hafler was a good hi-end amp that was made here in the USA. And, of course, the name Hafler needs no intro.

    • @jukingeo
      @jukingeo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As a follow up, I have tried the speakers raised up on small quart paint cans for the time being and that didn't help. I then decided to take the speakers to an entirely different room and put them on an entirely different sound system. The 350hz bonk was still there, even on that system. Yes, I used the same music. Needless to say, i am a bit disappointed. I have initiated the return process through RSL, Now, I am stuck with finding another 4" front ported speaker system for my computer :(.

    I only heard the CG4 series, and I was super impressed for the price. The main thing I would say it that they are smooth. They're not the last word in detail but can be listened to for hours without fatigue. Just like their subs, they integrate perfectly with the system and blend right in. They never get sibilant and I would say they aren't really bassy but the bass that is there is very clean. I would still love to audition the CG5 series because with a little more bass you could have an amazing sound for the price.

    My current speaker system is. 2.2 with RSL CG25 and Speedwoofers. Driving them from a Willsenton R8 tube amp currently. Also have driven them from a CXA81 which is collecting dust since I hooked up the R8.
    The speakers are excellent with both sources. If you’re in the market for for balanced to slightly warm speakers that you can listen to for hours without fatigue with great soundstage and easy to position check out RSL.

      Revel M106 x3 for LCR, Speedwoofer 10E, Definitive Technology ProSub 800, CG3M's for side surrounds, going thru a Denon AVR-X3700H.
      My very first impression was..."These side surrounds are awful." They were just way too in my face. I had them place slightly behind me, same distance apart as the fronts.
      I pulled them apart a bit further since they're front ported and still several feet away from side walls. BINGO! They became pretty damn enjoyable.
      This is before any room calibration with REW/MiniDSP -> XT32 (that'll happen this weekend.)
      I watched the last two episodes of The 8 Show (no spoilers). 95% of the surround content that came thru the sides were strings, keys, a bit of percussion, some falsetto female vocals, the usual foley/sfx, and reverb that trailed off from sounds in the fronts. All of that came thru nicely. The only thing that came off as a jarring difference vs. the Revels came from a scene where you hear male voices yelling. They sounded real thin compared to the fronts, though to be expected. I don't have much experience with surround content, but I'd think you don't often hear intelligible dialogue coming from the sides.
      Overall, I think these are a great option for folks who *mainly* care for 2-channel music, but wouldn't mind that added movement that surround gives for movies/shows.
      I wouldn't skimp on the center speaker, but I wouldn't hesitate to throw 4 more of these into the mix for 5.2.4 Atmos either!

    12:05 I actually think KEF is crazy for charging $1600 for a set of speakers where there are others that get close to their performance for much less. So I would think one would be crazy to buy them. There are reviewers that actually prefer the much cheaper KEF Q-150's and Q-350's over the LS-50s and the LS-50 Metas. Simply put the those are overpriced and overhyped and frankly I don't like the style. Getting back to the the RSL CG3M's. I am definitely looking into a nice small speaker that has good performance and I probably will give them a shot. At about $200 for the pair, it seems like the offering is more than good given that price.

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      for every 1 person that hates the LS50 Meta there seem to be over 100 happy customers so I don't think I'd agree that they're overhyped. Sure there are some cheaper speakers that are on par in some ways like the Dynaudio EMIT 10 at $800 it stacks up well against it but you're getting a vinyl wrapped cabinet that's nowhere near on the same level as the LS50 Meta cabinet so as always there are compromises but if we're just talking about sound quality only yeah there will always be a more spartan finshed speaker that can outperform something that costs more but has nicer finishing. Finishing & construction are part of the cost, nothing is free.

    • @jukingeo
      @jukingeo 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NemoPropaganda When you see several good reviewers that say they are overhyped and some can back it up with scientific test data, I would have to lean with them. The more expensive a speaker becomes, the more I dig deep into it and see if it is legit or not because there are MANY troll companies out there such as Focal, Sonas Faber and Revel that really take you for a ride. While I don't think that KEF is as bad, it seems they are heading in that direction. And for the record, I don't like the way the LS / meta series look. I like more a traditional styled cabinet. It seems as if the Q150 and Q350 fall into a more reasonable price category. I have yet to hear a 350 though. But I heard they sometimes go on sale dropping from $800 to $500. At the latter price, they might worth a try.

The CG3M tonally are very balanced as are the LS50 meta so they do have that in common but the phsyical size difference and price is substantial so it's not gonna sound the same per se but I think you'll be damn impressed with what $220/pair speakers can do tonally. Yes of course there is hardly any bass, the CG3M is tiny. If you're curious and the cost is not a big deal for you I suggest you just try them out, you can always return them if you're not happy with the purchase.

    Have you reviewed any better at this price point?

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  ปีที่แล้ว

      hard to say, the Sony SSCS5 sounds more effortless at lower volumes but some find it bright and it falls apart above medium volumes, the Klipsch R50M stages bigger but costs more, the Triangle BR02 has more bass but its top end is a little closed off by direct comparison and then the RSL CG3M sure its lacking in bass due to its size but otherwise damn near perfectly tonally balanced. It's hard to say if I've heard better because there are so many ways we can analyze sound but to me I think it's easily one of the best at its price so long as you can pair it with a sub and understand the limitations of such a small speaker. I let a friend borrow them recently who owns the Arendal 1961 Towers and he was fairly surprised at how good the CG3M were when paired with his JL D110.

    My personal experience with the press is no advertising, no review. If you want to trust anyone pick a review publication that works on a subscription with no advertising if you can find one. Sure the magpies occasionally throw a body out the door for credibility at some poor bastards expense, but you can bet they are not a big money advertiser. Do not expect the audio BUSINESS to run contrary to human nature for example, greed and corruption.
