    Come back! Please do more Breville content! We love these machines and use them everyday. Lelit, Slayer, and La Marzocco machines are certainly gorgeous but likely very few viewers will ever be able to afford them. Recipes, mods, and workflow tips that show everyone how to get the most and best out of a Breville would be awesome. I know you already have covered many of these topics but do ‘em again! lol As you yourself get more experience with well-regarded and prestigious machines, please don’t forget about the little guy who is pulling their first shots off a $300 Bambino using the single wall basket. Remember that guy please!

    Hi Kyle!
    Im thinking about buying the Barista Pro, so a few questions on the bottomless. I heard you say that it comes with a basket, but on Crema's site they sell additional basket. Is it any different or better the the stock one? Also is there a precision basket that fits this bottomless without any hacks or modifications?

    Hi Kyle, I have been using Breville Barista Espress for a while and after I finish my first shot (I can get a great shot of espresso) I can't maintain the consistency as the first one (I havent changed anything from the first shot), did you have same consistency issue when you used to have Barista Espresso?
    Cheers and thanks

    • @jaredholaday7280
      @jaredholaday7280 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey. I would recommend getting a very accurate scale off Amazon to keep dosing consistent. And then also find how much pressure you’re applying while tamping - do it on top of a weigh scale. I found these things helped me with consistency. Cheers!

    Hi Kyle.
    I got a bottomless portafilter for my barista express, though its not exactly of high quality. I noticed that when I started using it, when I extract my espresso, the grouphead sometimes spits water on the sides of the portafilter. Why does that happen?

    Honestly a must have for beginners is a dosing funnel, it keeps your workspace clean and avoids unnecessary frustration! I would have also included the scale and WDT Tool for better shots and to help with channeling issues.

    I'd love it if someone could comment/educate me on this as it's been rolling around in my head about these tamper/distributors for some time but never got around to saying anything . I have a Barista Express myself and have been using it daily for the last 2 years. I also am a home roaster and love to roast/try different beans every couple weeks so the coffee I put through it varies quite a bit. As a result I tend to spend a fair amount of time getting the machine dialed in from a grind/time perspective to hit the ratios I prefer. You've got to do this to get the most out of each shot. I whole heartedly agree that replacing the plastic tamp that came with the machine is valuable. However, when I was considering these tamper/distributors I decided to go with a LuxHaus calibrated pressure tamper instead because regardless of the coffee I brewed I wanted to maintain a consistent tamp pressure. So, I definitely see the value in the distributor and may still get one someday, but using it as a tamp also seems like it may be more trouble than it is worth. If someone likes to try different coffees like I do then they'll quickly discover that different coffees will have different densities which affect the volume of coffee that goes into the portafilter. It isn't too difficult to choke the Barista express which you can do easily enough with tamping with too much pressure and/or too fine a grind. That's where I see these things being used as a tamper being problematic since they are calibrated by distance (bottoming out on the rim of the portafilter) vs actual tamp pressure. I'm just not convinced using these distributors for tamping is all that helpful unless you hardly ever vary in your coffee. Love to hear other thoughts or where I may be thinking incorrectly.

    • @KyleRowsell
      @KyleRowsell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a great response, thank you for it! I totally see your point about a calibrated tamper working better than a limited press tamper. I think this sort of accessory will sell to the one who wants to elevate their espresso, so they will have a decent understanding to dialling in coffee. While this may not always be true, I think they will have an idea that the tamper will have to be adjusted from time to time. Regardless of if they use the tamper or not... The distribution tool is fantastic.

  • @OneIdeaTooMany

    I don't think you need the handle or a naked portafilter. I would say my list would be: 1. IMS/VST filter basket 2. Tamper/distributor, and 3. WDT tool.4. Dosing funnel 5. Puck screen. All can be had for less than $100 and get you making coffee more consistently which will make the process more enjoyable and then you can spend money on a handle, naked portafilter, zero retention hopper.

    The lever feels silly to me because your pretending that you are operating an analog valve but really it's still a digital switch for a solenoid. I think if I had that it would just make me long for a real analog valve. Also annoying that you don't show it installed
    The tamper looks really nice but it also doesn't have a handle so it seems like it would be hard to use and you didn't really show using it. I like the idea of the distributor though.

    Oh, boy, this is interesting and complicates things... I have been wanting to get into espresso, but don't have a ton of money. I considered getting a Barista Express (or even a Pro on sale) as a way to save money. But I was concerned that one or two years down the road, I would want to upgrade and end up spending the money again. So I had been thinking that maybe I should just jump straight into a Niche (when it's available), and a better machine, like a Rancilio or something. But I probably wouldn't be able to get that whole system together for at least 6 months or a year of saving money... This gives me more to think about, with the ability to upgrade the Breville machine...

    What about dosing cups like Crema 53.4 mm or similar 3D printed ones? They eliminate spillage while grinding coffee using the built-in grinder which is a super-frustrating thing when grinding coffee directly into portafilter the way Breville designed it, and thus improve the user experience enormously! You haven't even mentioned dosing funnels, which, although not as effective as dosing cups, already offer some improvement in this regard...
