Hey there fellow commentators the 9.2 is because she is a 'virtuoso' Hence perfection. It just two flubs although minor they are there. Yet he does not take anything away from her exceptional skills. David is very fair and reasonable for this score. Perfection of play is hard to do live. He recognises her absolute god like ability. Humble and fair in my opinion. She is one of the best players out there and he agrees. He respects her more for the live performance.

David. Great reaction. The best I have heard from nearly anyone else on TH-cam. You say real musical comments about her technique and performance. Like you, I learned this on piano many years ago, so have some idea of the technical demands. And I also like how closely you listened. I hear what you call "flubs", the variations of tone and rhythm, things that could happen another (cleaner) way, and do within this performance, as many sections are repeated. Musicians are not after perfection, they are after expression. To convey emotion you make yourself vulnerable, you take risks to say something new, something real. If you do this you will always "make mistakes". Perfection is about playing it safe, being anxiously cautious. Perfection is not a goal. Sublime expression is. People often confuse talent and giftedness in the comments (not you). Talent is the ability and willingness to practice many hours to develop one's gifts. Talent is long perseverance. No one who plays this way hasn't spent countless hours playing/practicing. Period. Tina S is the real deal. A joy to watch and to listen to. Glad I came across your reaction. Thanks.

Tina S never ceases to amaze. She did a great cover of Steve Vai's For the Love of God, that Steve Vai himself praised. It's not a fast song, which actually makes it harder, as the tone, the bends, and the trem bar usage will easily make any mistakes more apparent. It's the one video she has where she is deep into the music and is very expressive. Her cover of Dragonforce's Into the Fire and Flames when she was two years younger than she was here is also a jaw dropping performance.

    • @THEDavidHeretic
      @THEDavidHeretic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

"For The Love Of God" is actually one of my favorite Steve Vai songs, because it does slow down and gives us listeners a chance to hear what he's REALLY doing, rather than slamming 128 notes into a single measure making the guitar sound like an angry bee.

Tina S once said that she is learning a song in the way a gamer does to perfectly play games, with the muscular memory. There comes a point where every movement is purely reflex - the fingers know exactly where to go and what to do even et those speeds where you don't have the time to even THINK about it :D I think this statement tells us alot, and it's definitively an approach that the older generations (not used to consoles and gamepads) cannot really understand.

    • @THEDavidHeretic

Criticism should be just like you say. Spotting errors should also be like this, I saw one myself (the one you mentioned) ... Even Mark Martel in his own performance of "Bohemian Rhapsody" talks about it (if you haven't seen it, I really recommend it),
btw. Tina S. is really brilliant.

I assume for a 10 out of 10 she would have had to perform that piece while doing a headstand in lotus pose...just kidding.
    I got your point.
But I´m nevertheless convinced nobody is able to top that performance while playing the 3rd movement of the Moonlight sonata on guitar...just saying..especially no 17 year old person.

I love how visually you see little emotion on her face yet in all her
music that all drains into the guitar pulling you in making you part of
her emotion. Love all her music. Thanks for the reaction video! You
should do a reaction video for " In A Gadda Da Vida" by " Iron

Of course you're gonna do one or two or even a few small mistakes on a piece like this, even though you might have practiced it a 1,000 times.. perhaps once in a while you can play something like this absolutely perfectly, but the chance of that happening on a recording is pretty freaking slim. Even the greatest guitar player ever is not a robot. We're human :)

After this video she stopped posting to attend college, there is no information if she will come back. She was also subjected to constant abuse in the comments sections where people constantly said she wasn't playing these videos live. Wow, Wow, Wow !! From France: This is a bad, very bad news :
"Tina had an accident in 2017 and could no longer perform like a virtuoso.
In September 2020, she entered the Évry business school in the south of Paris, where her family lives. She joined the Télécom SudParis section as an engineering student. Her photo is in the school's Facebook and Instagram group photo, the last person on the right. Her sister Léa is also on the picture, for those who know her!
Alas Tina died in December 2020. "

Thanks a lot (!), David, for posting this reaction video. Which is, at least for me, by far the most insightful and authentic of the by now quite numerous reaction videos to Tina S's astonishing Beethoven performance.
As a hobby piano player actually coming from the classical side of music and cherishing the Moonlight Sonata as one of my favourite pieces (if not played too sentimentally), I enjoyed her metal version very much and had lots of fun with it. Her - and Dr Viossy's (who started this whole thing and produced the backgrund sound) - performances actually kind of "confirmed" a teasingly provocative statement of mine a few years ago too a friend: "Metal? Paaahh, invented by Beethoven as well!" ...I was indeed referring to the 3rd movement of the Moonlight, performed on the piano by Glenn Gould at least as breathtakingly as by Tina S on the guitar:
