Learn Math Fast has been helpful for my older special needs kids in just relearning the basics. It does get pretty intense but take it at your child’s pace as it is mastery based. I do not make them do all the problems. Just pick a couple and call it a day! With special needs I’ve learned less is more!😉 Definitely taking a break from writing might be a good idea! I had to do that with my older two for a time. When you are ready here is a somewhat simple option to look into. It is a book by Evan-Moor called Writing Fabulous Sentences and Paragraphs. It’s a very simple book that goes into basic writing. So far we are enjoying it and finding it helpful. I love color and fancy stuff but am learning sometimes simple and black and white seems to be best for my special needs kids. Hope all this information is helpful! You’re doing a great job!❤️
I had to switch my ADHD kiddo from TGATB math and language because it was just too busy looking, doing too much.. incorporating art and the stories and geography. My kid just couldn’t succeed with that anymore. We switched to Horizons Math and Easy Grammar for grammar, separate spelling curriculum, separate literature studies. He is doing so much better. I loved TGATB like preK-2nd. It was hard to make the decision to switch in 4th grade, but I am sooo glad I did.
We use easy grammar and 180 days :) then I plan to try fix it. Look into Christian light education for math. It’s to the point. No fluff. It works for my ADHD kid.
I noticed that my daughter wasn’t retaining anything from TGATB language arts so I dropped down a level (printed free). However, that didn’t work either. It’s just too all over the place and inconsistent. I never felt like anything was being cemented. We switched to EIW for this year and picked a level below. It’s been fantastic so far. Since the first 19 weeks are mainly grammar I’m having her copy a short paragraph once or twice a week for other subjects in the meantime. This is her fourth grade year and it’s the first time she’ll have formal writing instruction. She wasn’t ready before now to even try to approach this. She may still not be, but we’ll see. I say it’s going fantastic because the flow is great and she’s able to complete this independently and doesn’t hate it. Additionally, she’ll write a response once or twice a week about the book we’re reading from our Blossom & Root curriculum.
Recitation has been amazing for my ADHD kids to memorize information. They actually love it - I think it helps them to feel accomplished/smart. They also do best with plain, boring, black and white curricula. 🙃 You never really know what will work with these extra spicy kids until you try it.
I relate to this so much. My adhd/dyslexic kiddos do similar types of curriculum. My 4th grade son is “behind” and we are back to basics as well. First language lessons and writing with ease have been that good, quick, simple approach as well for LA. And we do math mammoth but went back to 2nd grade so we could master addition/subtraction again as math facts were a struggle. They will find their way😍Just keep going.
My 3rd grader and I also struggle with writing…I’m considering having him just do a class each week with outschool so that I’m not the one teaching it and see how it goes for him. I’m on the verge of throwing writing out for the rest of this year too if it doesn’t work 😂 you’re not alone! Lol
So glad I’m not alone! I’m not worried about writing I think in time it will come easier. But I also think we may start allowing her to put it on the computer as that’s where the world is at. We shall see.
My daughter’s advising teacher said she didn’t start formal writing with her kids until middle school. Race strategy is used in public school and I feel it helps. Let me know if you find the TPT info as I’d love to see that.

Yes I am hoping this helps so much in our homeschool! We shall see.
