Been going to the great langdale campsite for about 30yrs absolutely love it. Not been for a while in all honesty ,,you could just turn up park up and pay in the morning, now there’s a barrier and you have to book online, that’s the only thing that’s stopped us ,but it’s a stunning place with stunning views and no signal until about skelwith bridge. I do miss it
Yes we had to be more organised because we didn’t want to book 2 nights. They were great on the phone booking and then we just booked the 2nd night when we go back from a hike as it was pretty quiet. We really struggled to get a spot at any of the NT sites after lockdown as they were rammed in the summer 🚐 love the sites though, I think Wasdale is our favourite
Meant to say attached, we enjoy walking the lake district and the peak district, we are members of NT, will have to try that campsite, ideal for walks, 👍
Thank you, we actually quite enjoyed the little challenge but I was not the greatest at remembering to do Ghd m until at night - Richard was more organised 🤣
The only trouble with winter camping is the 15 to 16 hours of darkness, stuck in the van. We have just been away to the highlands last week, in our campervan but stayed in some self catering lodges at Delny, invergordon. Because we were in a more or less house sized 5 bed lodge, the nights were much more relaxing than being in the small space of the campervan on an evening and night and it was not much more than the cost of a camp site either because it was low season. We obviously used the campervan as a campervan, whilst out and about but just didn't spend the evening and night in it. it will be 14 years retired for me at the end of March, i will be 65 then.
Yes it certainly is very different, particularly on longer trips! We try to be near a pub, not for a beer particularly but for a change of scenery. We are skiing for 4 weeks in the new year and specifically chose a campsite that has a community room with sofas and tables and the bonus of a log burner which we used every night last year and bizarrely had to ourselves most nights as everyone else stayed in their motor homes 🚐 hope the highlands were kind with the weather, we can’t wait to get up there again 🏔️🥾❄️
Richard got the Wainright books for his 50th and I bought him a Wainright journal which has every peak in that you can make notes on and tick off as you do it 🥾
Richard and Jackie, just stumbled across your channel and I’m loving your content. Me and my wife have owned a t5.1 for a number of years, we’ve just had it fully converted, and plan to get away as much as possible next year. Our daughters are a bit older now so it could just be the two of us most of the time! I love your positive outlook and it inspires me to just get out there. I do hope your daughter gets well soon. Looking forward to more videos. Thanks, all the best
@@earlyretirementwanderlust Absolutely, we love our van! I’m pleased Georgia is on the mend. Please keep up the great work you both do as it’s nice being able to watch genuine and down to earth people. All the best and safe travels
Oh no! We have had that twice at the Keswick camping and caravan site. Once at 3am with water knee deep on the road out to booths with the police and mountain rescue trying to get the caravan out who couldn’t pack up quickly! The lake flooded sooo quickly!
Hi just found your channel, love the langdales sat here watching you at blea tarn and above my tv is a painting of blea tarn so miss the lakes now we live in southwales. DAVE.
Blea Tarn is such a beautiful place whether it is calm or stormy. I love it when the lake is like glass and reflects the mountains and trees. Thanks for watching 🚐🏔️🥾
Looks a great campsite and thanks for the video. Really enjoy your channel. We are going full time in our motorhome in the New Year and doubt I will get it down those roads! I am just about to leave the van to do a couple of Munros on a very cold morning.winter kit packed . Love the blueberries breakfast.
Wow full time sounds very exciting! What you lose in accessing some places in your motorhome, you will gain in comfort and space!! There are so many wonderful places to discover. Hope you enjoyed the Munros. Richard has his eye on doing them when we finish the Wainrights. We love exploring Scotland in our van 🚐
Thanks and the van is very comfortable. I have a smaller van for accessing the mountains however the boss won’t stay in that! Mountains are very wintry and the two Munro Ben Narnain and Beinn Ime safely done
Recently discovered the channel and enjoying your journey through early retirement. Have a look at Eskdale, like Langdale but so much better and dare I say it, prettier than Borrowdale. Great pubs and NT campsite too plus it’s just that bit quieter than the rest of the Lakes.
We are planning on a stay at the NT Eskdale site in February - I agree it is stunning across there and a little out of the chaos of wasdale and the 3 peakers 🥾 someone also mentioned that Low Wray site is open in the winter that we want to try
@@earlyretirementwanderlust low Wray is great if the water level isn’t too high 👍 a great little no frills site is Chapel House Farm in Borrowdale, cheap and the owner/farmer Richard is a great bloke. Perfect base for a few more of those Wainwrights.
@@earlyretirementwanderlust forgot to say, in Eskdale, plenty of walks from the NT site. Up by the river to the woolpack for tapas or pizza is a nice short walk. Hello Jackie & Richard, love your videos and advice. I'm 8 days away from early retirement and find you videos inspiring. We have been subscribed and watched your vlogs for some time and have watched your journey since pre your cottage renovation. We have an Adria panel van conversion, so really enjoy all aspects of your content. Could I ask please, what make and model of walking poles were featured in this vlog please. Hi Melissa- thanks for your lovely feedback- it’s always nice to hear! With only 8 days to go you must be soooo excited! We remember it well- just make sure you enjoy the time. Early retirement is so wonderful- you will love it. The walking poles are Lomo aluminium- they are fab and compete well with the higher end brands. Hi both, I've just early retired from teaching - still working doing something else though at the mo as my wife (Bex) is still teaching. I've loved watching your videos as I'd always wanted a camper and was able to buy one with my lump sum. It's a T6 (Ernie) and had already been converted to a day van but was such a good price that we bought it thinking we can add the pop top etc... so a work in progress. We were outdoor instructors and have always camped / wild camped - the van is like a luxury for us. We live in the Lakes and will be doing a couple of nights out to test out the van - may pop to the Langdales for an easy first trip. What pop top do you have? I'm trying to find someone who will retro fit one at the mo - Jerba aren't keen! Thanks for all of the inspirational vids. My bump into you in the Lakes.
Congratulations on retiring and like us you have the worlds greatest playground on your door step in the Lakes! Having a van just gives you so much freedom to be spontaneous and get away I guess even to Scotland for you. It is 2 hrs to ghe border and took us 4 hrs to the Arran ferry port from the dales. We actually have no idea what pop top was fitted by our converter! I remember him saying it came from Northumberland way. The VWT6 face book forum is quite a good place to look as there is always some one asking about pop tops. Happy travel and retirement x
Thanks @@earlyretirementwanderlust Looking at going to 4 days a week and Bex is leaving teaching so we can have some long weekends away. Loving the van. We've always holidayed in Scotland and the Outer Hebrides. Looking forward to parking the van at Vatersay, have always camped on the Macha. I wouldn't be surprised if we bump into you at some point. I'm thinking of starting a youtube channel (as we have a puppy since I changed jobs) and feel that van life with a dog will have some particular challenges and additional joy.
The freedom the van gives is immeasurable to us! We love looking at the weather forecast if we have a few free days and getting away. We had 10 days on Arran in September on a whim. Isn’t Vartesay amazing! We stayed by the community centre a few years ago and a collie sheep dog literally adopted us and took us to the 3 beaches on a walk. Enjoy your new found vanlife and retirements from teaching!

Hi, been watching your videos and enjoyed, we liked the blanket you had from passenger so we ordered one, it's great, but we cannot get it back in detached bag, tried so many times, there is a video on line, folding it is obvious, but the speed of video is so fast nr the end we cannot see how it can go back in bag, can you help 🤔
