They're moving him deeper and deeper into the storage area.
It's harder for people to give me work that way...
Does he have his red swing line stapler?
he’s the gun 🤫
@@jonathanferguson1211 *Is the museum being renovated? BTW: Props for doing this episode with how your voice is sounding.*
One gallery has been turned into a temporary exhibition gallery which houses a display of decorated and art firearms at the moment. There are plans to do more, but the works that have me moving around are in the stores behind the scenes :)@@Brettbren
The size of the M11 is probably so large because it's held by the class with the smallest character model.
Yes, the light, medium and heavy class are almost comically different in size in this game. The heavy is lugging around a Lewis gun easily, but he can also shoulder barge through literal walls.
yeah, I wonder if Jonathan is a taller guy? in my head cannon I would imagine the light units being 5'1-5'4, med 5'7-5'8, then heavies being 6'1 and considering the Mac is only used by the smaller units it would appear larger but if it was Jonathan I would imagine him being the medium weight units size, if not 6ft in general.
@@leonardogonzalez5016 light is between 4’10 and 5’2. Medium is 5’6-5’10 and heavy is 6’4+
Petition to revisit Squad. They’ve added several new factions since the last video (USMC, Canadian army, Chinese army and marines, the Turkish army a week ago), in addition to re-working the infantry combat system, so it would be interesting to hear Jonathan’s take on that as well.
I petition second to notion!
Add Post Scriptum / Squad 44 now that we know it is back in development
@@lordporkchop55would make more sense to cover that after the release of some of the planned content updates coming soon
What is squad
Can you please always show Jonathan the default models of the guns. If you have any special looking skins let him give a separate reaction after the actual weapon review.
Exactly. Showing him the wacky skins that have special reloads is wasting time that could have been better spent. He probably would have had zero criticisms about the default 1887. Doing it the way they did it kind of defeats the purpose and is bordering on incompetence for whoever decided to do it this way.
Ive had this same thought for nearly every video on this channel. Quick intro to the weapons in-game, then if they have additional customization like how the finals has Charms / Stickers. Ik Dave wants to flex his ingame skins but its drastically skews Jonathan's perception.
This comment should be pinned asap. Exactly my thoughts on default skins in many of the videos.
They probably did and cut it out because "nothing wrong here" doesn't make for interesting content
@@snifftheshark looks like its the kinda guy who doesn't have friends and trying to say: AWW LOOK AT MY STUFF, LOOK AT MY SKINS, begs to show off something and finally able to do it... this is rediculous to do this in such video
An answer to why the Lewis gun is in game, Embark Studios is made up of former Dice developers (the studio that worked on the Battlefield games. And the last punlished game the founding devs worked on was Battlefield 1. And the reason that smg looked so large was because the character using it is very small. There are three size classes in game.
That explains why the reload animation looks so familiar
Would also explain the rear ring sight. A fusion of the original front sight and the AA rear sight from BF1
I'm very surprised by how realistic the guns are made in this game, given its very fantasy, glittery pop-art style. Also love the partial reload on the lever action shotgun.
I remember cursing the apperture sight on the Lewis gun in Verdun and I think the reason they're removed in this game is the same: the way the game's graphics work simply doesn't allow them to function like the real ones and it would just make it impossible to see anything through them
It's made by the OG battlefield devs of DICE LA. they always did well with weapon design
them "Experts react video game firearms" series from GameSpot and Gamology had some positive impact on game industry, i am certain if it
@@mrdntgetshot2759 i thought swedish dice were the origin of battlefield, no la dice?
@@mrdntgetshot2759 DICA LA are aren't the original developers of Battlefield. The Finals is developed by Embark, who are based in Stockholm, Sweden.
It’s really hard to nail that illusion of looking down a tiny pinprick of a sight and seeing basically a thin metal ring around the edge. You could create 2 graphical covers for the weapons, one where the sight is fully thick when carrying/hip-firing, and one that thins out when you ADS, but that’s a little much and likely to cause a more serious bug elsewhere.
Is Jonathan feeling okay in this? Sounds like He caught a cold.
Edit: yes he did. Feel better soon Ferguson
thought the same
Yes, it's been a bad one, although not sore throat weirdly.
@jonathanferguson1211 hope you feel better soon!
Get well soon, Mr Ferguson!
Hi @@jonathanferguson1211, would you be interested in checking out SCP: 5Ks guns? It's still in early access, but I think we got some stuff you might enjoy 😊
Always Love Jonathans smile in the thumbnail of him holding
The love the man has for his job is so readily apparent it's brilliant
I don't take it for granted for one moment. I am incredibly fortunate.
He's an amazing public educator.
Dream job tbh

The Lewis gun*
Interesting fact, Jonathan mentions the size of the loop on the 1887.
When Arnold was using the 1887, he was using it for a scene or to rehearse (don’t remember exactly), he picked up the one with the standard loop, tried to spin it, and nearly broke three of his fingers.
I would have never guessed in a million years that Jonathan Ferguson, Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries, would reference RedLetterMedia. What's next? Ian McCollum is gonna reference Best of the Worst?
We can only hope!
I CLAPPED, I CLAPPED WHEN I SAW IT
I missed it, what was the reference?
@@pizzarune5 3:14. He references Mr. Plinkett.
Goat reconize goat
14:09 you are correct about their hands being tiny. The class (the light class) is a tiny woman that gets tiny guns to rush the enemy with
I mean, not necessarily a woman, and I think even with light's proportions it's still huge, especially comparing to their other guns available, but yeah, it was fun how he just threw that out there and was mostly correct
@@NickJerrison I said woman just cuz it’s defaulted to a woman like how Heavy’s default is a dude
@@RuskiFuze01iirc, the default models of all 3 classes are women, which isn't really saying much, cause the game quite literally screams at you that you can customize your character once you finish a game.
at least in my case, for all that i know the game could generate random playermodels for the classes when you load it in for the first time.
So glad you guys are doing this in a back and forth video call format now. Sometimes Johnathan needs a little extra context to understand quirky design choices and how the premise of whatever game he's analyzing affects those choices. Really improves the educational aspect of the show and makes it all more fun in general.
Johnathan referencing RLM is awesome. Now we need Johnathan to be on an episode of best of the worst lol.
And I just got finished watching their new BotW too before watching this lol
That was a deep callback and I came here to check if I heard correctly. I had to Google Mr Plinkett to see if there was soemthing else he might have been referring too.
Maybe he needed VCR repair at one point. 😄
3:13 Jonathan Ferguson watches RedLetterMedia? The Perfect man.
I visited the Leeds museum this morning to check out the Re:Loaded exhibition and it's rad - definitely worth a visit if you're able. The entire cabinet of 1911 variations was the highlight IMO.

I like the inclusion of the conversation between Dave and Jonathon. Makes the video a bit more human.
Big like for appreciation to Jonathan, working hard even while nursing a horrendous cold 🥶. Speedy recovery 🙏
I really like this style of Firearms Expert Reacts where it is sometimes more of a conversation between Dave and Jonathan
Yeah. They've been doing this together for a while now, so their rapport is really good. Works very well to have it be more of a conversation.
I love this type of skins in games, the one that doesn’t add extra unnecessary parts and just adds engravings.
I have had a lot of fun playing this game, so that may affect my opinion on this - but I really liked this specific episode! The game has a strong sense of realism when it comes to the modeling and animation of these guns, which gave Jonathan plenty of points to talk about, and there was the perfect mix of Dave's commentary/shenanigans to fill in the details or make me laugh. I also really liked the last conversation that came up at the end, with Jonathan and Dave both being interested in the general theming of the game. I've watched this series for a long time, and I couldn't be happier that the series has only improved with age.
9:37, in the beta it was with that sight, but you really couldn’t see anything. Also de animations for the lever shotgun, is for that skin, normally it’s grabbed both handed and levered normally
Knowing Jonathan watches red letter media is the crossover I didn’t know I needed
Very pleasantly surprised to hear Jonathan mention RLM
I loved jonathan's lewis gun anectdote; its crazy to me that field-refurbishing it into a different cartridge was possible at all
Probably not a field conversion - I think it's much more common for a captured gun to be sent to the back lines, and I don't think there's any likelihood the necessary parts for that job would be available outside of a workshop.
@@Khrrck even so, just the fact that it was logistically sensible is crazy
Would love to see an episode 2 on The Finals so Jonathan can take a look at the suppressed semi-auto handgun in the game -- I think it's meant to be a Laugo Alien, and as I understand it's quite a cool and unique firearm. Its inclusion in this game seems to be one of its only appearances in mainstream media as of yet.
Enjoyed watching this one!
Just a FYI Johnathan the "spin cocking" of a Winchester was made famous by the 1958 TV show *The Rifleman* and later became a TV western staple that found it's way into John Wayne and other big pictures. *The Rifleman* is what started the trend. It was very popular in it's day.
I miss that guy asking for The Order 1886.
He ascended to Internet Valhalla.
@@jonathanferguson1211As he should. He's posting with the gods now.
it's a nice thing that i'm seeing they giving more context on the game for the person to ponder with, it's nice to see the expert understand what the purpose of the weapons and the game itself so they can tell us additional things instead of just saying this is good or bad, and Jonathan himself is always very good at pointing the little details and explaining why it would or not work
I love these videos because they also give us an inside look at all the dark and dank basement spaces within the Royal Armories where the museum allows Johnathan to “do his video game video thing.”
Get well soon Jonathan!
Amazing: Jonathan quoting Mr Plinkett from his Episode I The Phantom Menace 70 min video.
Amazing video as always! Even with a cold Jonathan still went his way to provide us the best of the best commentary and content. True madlad, we don't deserve him.
If you're going to revisit this game, I would love to see the game's rendition of the Laugo Alien covered as well, a really unique and cool inclusion given that it's only been out for a few years now
On the topic of the M11 looking too big, the weapons in this game are sorta "Class" based, but the classes are how big the characters are. Light, Medium, and Heavy.
The M11 is used by the Light characters, who are indeed quite smaller, trading the health pool of the larger sizes for increased speed and a smaller hitbox.
One of the devs, Oskar Wetterbrandt, is very talented and detailed animator for the reloads. He’s the same animator who created the Telekinesis Garand animations from BF5.
Awesome been loving this game and it’s weapon animations and was waiting for this!
Great video! I hope Johnathan feels better!
Hope you feel better Jonathon :) Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! :D
Need a part 2!
I would like to see Jonathan reacting to the guns of Warframe, including Grineer and Corpus equipment that the enemies use, like the portable shields.
What do you expect him to say about shields?
An absolute ton of "joke inclusions" to throw at him there too lol.
"Anyway, here's the Bubonico. It's alive and shoots infested bladders."
@@aerthreepwood8021 The Grineer blunt is a bulletproof balloon shield and it would be interesting to see his reaction to it
I’d love to see his reaction to the Soma machine gun.
It’s top feed magazine mechanic is very reminiscent of the French WW1 Chauchat machine gun.
Jonathan Wick-flicking in slo mo during the intro 😯
I actually dug out a Glock with an extended mag release when Dave asked me to do that, then picked up the wrong Glock and wondered why it was so difficult...
@@jonathanferguson1211 Looked smooth enough to me. Style points for sure.
17:08 that pun was totally intended, you cant tell me otherwise.
game actually looks great, only heard about it a few days ago too.
hope jonathan is feeling well (again?) he sounds a bit sickly, guess 'tis the season for it. stay healthy, everyone!
I once again kindly request a video on the weapons of the Valkyria Chronicles series. Between upgrades, enemy weapons, attachments, the lances in general, Jonathan would have a field day.
John is sick and still dropping puns like the champ he is feel better brother cheers from the US!
I'm assuming "alter exploit destroy" is a gag on the B Grills "adapt improvise overcome" meme?
Ahhhhh, it could be. I wasn't aware of that.
It'd be cool to add more images of guns that are mentioned but not shown, like the RA's diamond revolver.
Also, I want to suggest ArmA 3: SOG Prairie Fire and its rarely seen elsewhere Vietnam-era unicorns.
for any concerns for the size of guns, there is 3 classes in game. Light, medium, and heavy with light being the smallest and heavy being the largest. The light class has the mac 11 so that be why it looked large
Great video would love to see his opinion on more of the wild skins, like the M11 that prints a repceit of your kills, or the M60 with the bullhorn on it. maybe later down the line when theres more
I hope you show him the mp5 as well, the animations are straight up TASTY in the finals, might me by favorite.
0:38 Seeing Johnathan flick a Glock 18 mag to reload was gangsta.
Great Video''💯Thanks 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Jonathon referencing Mr. Plinkett made my day.
Okay i was surprised to see the skin of the M shotgun changed animations too, might buy it now
There was a really similar rotary tube shotgun on Kentucky Ballistics recently. Although with that one you have to manually load the tubes which takes forever.
this game has probably the best sound design i have ever listened, alongside Hunt and the Battlefield series
Glad that this has become a long time running thing for Jonathan. Still here's to hoping he gets to review Darkest of Days and the future guns that are in it!
The AKM has a strange rear sight. It is based off the Spetsnaz AKMB, which has a dovetail mount and a different rear sight for subsonic rounds, as they are meant to be suppressed.
Pushing as always for you guys to have Jonathan cover Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and to cover the M8 and MRI Caseless specifically as well.
I have been posting for you to do this in every video a year back now.
Thank you
Always glad to see a RLM reference
I'd really love to see Jonathan take a look at SOG: Prairie Fire. It's a Vietnam DLC for ARMA that is practically a whole new game. It was created by a different development team (ex modders) and they have gone crazy with the detail and the number of cool and obscure firearms. We've got XM177s, French MAT-49 smgs, MAT-49s converted to take Soviet ammo, 20-round M16 mags loaded to 18 rounds to prevent jamming, old school optics, first-generation starlight scopes, rifle grenades... it's also a great opportunity to look at some of the static weapons like the Maxim or DsHK or 20mm Oerlikon and 40mm Bofors (check out the US assault boats) that we don't get to see in many games.
You should have a look at Killzone Series lots of Helical Mags, Bullpups etc
Deus Ex Series lots of futuristic concepts and guns
Alan Wake series
Yay, I've been waiting for this episode, I love the Finals!
Johathan should look at the guns of SAO Fatal Bullet and COD Advanced Warfare
So it's _you_ now
I love that he presents the weapons to camera with all the pride of a child presenting a drawing for fridge approval
Johnathan love your content, hope you guys keep these videos coming for years!
You should just give this guy the entire channel at this point.
A note on the m11, Johnathan did say that the character may just have small hands. The only class who can have the m11 is the light class who are in game very short, not sure if that’s why but yeah
4:34 wasnt that lever originally made popular in the western show The Rifleman? That shows from late 50s before True Grit was made. thats where i saw it, watching reruns
Was a fun video actually
I love using the Lewis gun so much
would love to see episode 2
would definitely love to see Receiver 2 on the channel one of these days! some of the most faithfully-recreated firearms *and* firearm controls i've ever seen in a flat game, and they're internally modeled down to the pins. still some animation borks here and there because Video Games like the cylinder release catch on one of the revolvers being animated in the wrong direction and the hammer spring of the desert eagle clipping through the backstrap, but the game certainly deserves the attention ^^
I thought that the spin-cocking was first popularized by the show 'The Rifleman' in the late 1950's which was earlier than Wayne's 'True Grit'. (Though the rifle in the rifleman was a modified Winchester 1892.)
Didn't expect a Mr.Plinkett reference 😂 shout out to RLM
He quoted RLM.
He truly is one of us.
16:23 cuts just as he was about to run into some mines
Did... did Jonathan reference Mr. Plinkett? Happy to learn the man watches RLM
Amazing video as alwayas Jonathan! Sad that they didn't show the Laugo Arms Alien which is featured in the game under the name "V9S" but good video nonetheless.
P.S the Mac11 is that big cause the character that uses it is small
Feel better soon, Jonathan!
@3:17 Nice reference to RLM
i hope to be able to visit the museum someday while he's still working there
Feel better soon, Jonathan
Thanks!
We really need a part 2, this is the first game ever to feature the Laugo Alien, im pretty sure.
Been playing the finals, but I only ever use a hammer so I don't typically see a lot of gun action. Oh, GTFO's final rundown came out recently, that game's got some very interesting semi-futuristic weapons in it. If there are real life analogues for them I wouldn't know what they are
Would really love to see a reaction to the guns in division 2. There’s a wide variety including exotic weapons. Could make a multi part series out of it if it did good.
Gunfire Reborn and Roboquest are two roguelike FPSes that deserve a look here. Highlights include dual LMGs and a burstfire homing rocket launcher in Roboquest, or very Chinese-Fantasy looking guns mixed with small animals used as guns in Gunfire Reborn.
I would love to see Jonathan reaction to some of the guns in Enlisted (like the Fedorov's rifle mixed with the Lewis gun for example)
i think the m60 sight was opened up to the righ because in game it has a very visible horizontal recoil and as result alot of horizontal sway wich makes me to believe your sight would have just exited the groove where it should be in
The model 1887 I think used black powder shells when it came out. You should be able to use modern propellant in your loads now.
I'd would like to see another Hunt: Showdown episode, a lot of cool guns were added there, and it would be interesting to see Jonathan's thoughts on gun-related perks.
3:15 Now I can die happy. Jonathan admires Mr. Plinkett.
Feel better soon Jon!
Seeing that Lewis gun was crazy my great grandad was in the sherwood foresters in ww1 crazy to think may of bin nere him
I’m once again suggesting you guys cover Ghosts of Tabor’s guns!
Please, pleeeease do more weapons from this game!!❤
14:38 this shotgun brings me back. Ah I loved it in this game called Warface. Show of hands if you’ve played it
14:05 in this game the players are in classes of light, medium and heavy and the Mac 11 is a light class weapon and the light character is a scaled down tiny little 3 foot tall adult human, so the gun would look huge in his hands.
Is there any chance you could have Jonathan react to H3VR's exclusive new AR models? Not only did guns like the M4, M16, HK416, etc. get their own unique models made specifically for the game with intricate details, but now there's even more variants of guns such as the C601, the first AR15 before being adopted by the military as the M16, or the R6000 SP1 and R6000 SP1 Carbine, some of the first civilian rifles on the market. We even have all the M16 variants including both the A1 and the original M16.
