This type of thinking/strategy/anticipation is what takes you from 4.5 to 5.0+. Most people cannot grasp all of these things during game play. Great Video
Something I wanted to say about the paddle position while prepping for a speedup. The lower the ball is on the opponent’s side, the higher the incoming speedup will most likely be. This means that you would definitely NOT prepare your paddle low, and the ball will come higher up (assuming the ball is low on the opponent’s side). This is vice-versa for a pop-up. The opponent will most likely aim at your feet, so the prep position could definitely be lower
Day one of That Pickleball School I said “I wish I had faster hands” and now I know that faster hands does not mean literally faster hands. It just means better understanding of the game. This video is going to be the one to take me to 5.0!!!!!
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen. The mental process of the game, anticipation and court position can lead to better play. All of this speaks to having good strokes that now find success because they are following these principles I like the concept of the twoey with the core twist. Hard to lose the aggressive forehand grip when playing the left and then flip to the eastern for backhands. Now I'll be experimenting with that. Thanks brother
Incredible video. I just started and caught myself watching my teammate handling the dink battle. I knew I wouldn’t be prepared for a speed up towards me. And I sometimes watch my shot when it’s good instead of anticipating my opponents shot.
Another thing is that you should never watch a rally between your partner and your opponent. You should always be thinking about how to attack, whether that will be your partner hitting a good shot and cause a weak reply from your opponent for you to poach or your partner has a weak reply in which you are ready to help out. Having an attacking mindset tends to work, but keep in mind that having an attacking mindset is not the same as always being aggressive.
13:50 I used freeze frame to calculate a time of 400 ms between ball strikes. It was pretty consistent. This is a number I've seen before for a fast-paced hands battle. I suspect 260 ms would be exceptional, even for pros on championship Sunday. You can check this out for yourself by playing the hand exchange at 1.5x. which will be 260 ms almost exactly as played back with speed boost. For me, I was like, "yeah, ALW manages those kind of hand speeds, but mostly because she's already camping in the right place". This is a skill beyond hand speed, if you ask me.
w/ counters to attacks you mentioned you dont have a lot of time....if ur a 2 handed BH person (or trying to develop a 2 handed BH) is it good to counter attacks w/ the 2 handed BH (it requires being ready in the 2 handed BH position). or could 2 handed BHs be reserved for attacks on dead dinks where you have more time?
This was a great video! I watched it twice & took notes 😊 Thank you, Kyle! I'm always saying my reaction time is slow because I'm "old" 😄. But that's not why, so yay!!
Definitely need to see what to do with righty lefty. I’m a lefty and still struggling to help my buddy out. I’m also ambidextrous but I’m left hand dominant playing. 😂 hard to know what’s appropriate.
Great content!!! Time stamp 6:10 covering left side with two right handed players What if the right side plsyer has two handed backhand? Then left player has to shift all the way to cover line?
In my opinion, this is THE TOUGHEST coverage in pickleball. Some of these will be based on who your partner is. let's say they don't have a two handed backhand and don't cover middle well. Then left side player can't just slide line. They might have to cover line and their right hip. It's tricky! Probably could make a youtube video on this one coverage. Truth is, I haven't figured it out, yet. hah
2:41 i disagree. It's better to hold the paddle closer to the body and wait to make contact with the ball when it's closer. This allows the person to punch through the ball, and mitigates the need to use wrist in the event that your arm is fully extended before you contact the ball. in the solomo especially you can see you used a lot of wrist and that limited you to not being able to hit the ball with much pace, and it also didn't allow you to hit down on the ball.
@@jmeib I think everyone has their own techniques . but you can see that most of the pro league players play like that, as Kyle says. especially if you have long arms
@@kento1957 I think you're talking about side to side movement? I would wait to see what kind of ball my opponent is hitting because the last thing I want is for them to speed up at me and I'm in the middle of moving sideways.

Solid gold speedup lesson! So many great takeaways here, thanks.
Probably the best video for hand speed
This is incredible. Look forward to joining your school in the coming months

This is fantastic content. Thanks so much. I'll be watching you apply these 5 Principles in your next tournament with Tanner!
Super helpful. Thx! Looking fwd to the drills.

Excellent

So if you’re in a hands battle and you are the one hitting up, how do you turn the table and start hitting down during that point?
Can be tough, might have to reset back into the kitchen, or or just try to get on top of the next ball after you hit up on the previous one
Wow, awesome video and a good reminder of mental strategy preparation!
