This is one of a number of retractions I'm making on my older videos, to give my updated opinions on both the topics covered in the videos and the videos themselves. These are then posted as pinned comments, to be as close as possible to as visible as the original video, in order to keep myself accountable in mistakes I've made, usually retracting certain statements or things I disagree with in the videos, correcting things for integrity sake, or maybe just clarifying somethings or addressing comments. This video series is just bad, probably shouldn't even be allowed to be kept up, but you idiots seems to like it; below I've linked my 'The Best Anime Relationship' Rock and Revy video that I still think is largely good minus the abysmal first 4 minutes or so where I talk about anime like I know shit about it or have seen more than 20 shows max, among other stupid, talking points. The Intro to this video is a word for word spoof off BestGuyEver's Gurren Lagann Best Anime Ever video, I thought everyone would understand that, but they don't seem to have, I guess the video works and is understandable if you aren't aware of that context. I go into this more in the 'To Reiterate' video linked above. 3. The Revy character analysis using the Innuendo Studios action hero outline is cringe, and bad, and dumb. I kind of admit to that in the video, but there's no criteria for being a 'good female character,' art has no rules and it's not a bingo card, where if you have these 5 elements in a row, you did a good art, and if you get 5 on a row on this other card you did a bad art. This is dumb and reductive. Also, obviously the 'strong female character' part, is some weird anti-SJW shit I thought I'd purged in myself when this video was scripted in early 2019, but apparently it still lingered. This was just dumb, obviously when people say they want more 'strong female characters' this is in response to the disproportionate amount of weak female characters that are using written into male centric stories, not Mary Sue's or whatever, not that Mary Sue's are bad anyway, because there are no rules in art. I hate when people try to take concepts or complaints like that hyper-literally, when obviously that's not how they are intended or generally used. 4. The part where I call Eda a slut, was me rather cringily trying to be sex-positive, in the face of, I guess, sex-negative feminists? I get what I was going for here, and I remain remarkably sex-positive, but this was definitely an odd way to go about it.

i love this show to DEATH and I'm mad that people don't talk about it more. It's so good for doing character studies and it's so good to analyze the psychological aspects of all of them aghhh

I wasn't REALLY watching Black Lagoon at first, just enjoying the action and cursing. Didn't think to go much deeper other than for the Twins episode. Very glad I have corrected that since watching your videos. Rock and Revy have a very unique relationship as I see it now, perhaps tragic even considering I don't know if they can be saved, or will even get a happy ending.
Most will disagree with what I have to say. This is from a woman's point of view. I truly think Black Lagoon is one of my favorite anime/manga. Seven out of ten women are broken to some degree. Additionally most of them have been molested or raped before the age of ten. Being broken has no class level. Rich, poor, ect. Also broken doesn't mean defeated. They keep getting up and continue to live. The weak usually kill themselves. These women are strong. I realize this series is fiction, but I just thought I'd put some reality into your point of view. What I find interesting about the series are the shifting allegiances between characters like with Revy and Shen Hua. In one arc they could be on the team. In another arc, they could be trying their hardest to put each other in the ground but the thing is it's never personal because it's all about business and who hires them for whatever job they have to do.
I would like to reiterate that the 'Strong Female Character' discussion in this video is fucking atrocious and bad. I hated it before I'd even realised part 4 later that year and it has only gotten worse with age.
