Hey, my little party animals and welcome to a brand new video! H.H. Holmes is widely considered one of the first and most notorious of the early American serial killers. Eventually confessing to 27 murders, but speculated to have committed many more, H.H. Holmes and his Chicago residence known as The Castle caused a sensation in the late 1800's. In this episode of A Brief History, we'll go through the life and times of killer H.H. Holmes born Herman Webster Mudgett from his birth to his crimes and finally his execution.
Thank you to SimQueen for building the exterior and doing the incredibly difficult layout of the H.H. Holmes castle. We both tried to stay as true to the original building as possible with the limited resources available after the Castle was taken down and a post office was built over it in the late 1930's. Oh I was obsessed with researching H.H. Holmes a few years ago and this just brought it all back to me! You did such a great job with the interiors -- just so creepy! (And the build itself is awesome! I"ll go check that vid out too) and your narration really captivated the horror of this man and his life. I really enjoyed watching!
Yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. This is by far my favorite series to make, and this was a really interesting story to research!
Jesus, I thought I knew this story already but there was SO MUCH MORE that I had no idea happened! Such a crazy life and definitely he was an awful person... He might not have committed all those murders, but he still killed people. As always your storytelling was super captivating, I didn't even realize this video is almost 20 minutes, I thought it was barely 5 lmao! This build is also incredible, both Sim Queen and yourself did an incredible job!

This whole building makes me feel claustrophobic, all the rooms are so tiny and have no windows and the maze! It’s a wonder anyone lived there! This was great too! I don’t know if I could ever build this 😲

Holmes also bought a cement company on the river and they say the Chicago River has quite a few barrels he put bodies in and filled with cement at the bottom.
I think they should make a movie about the murder castle.

How did you find the layout to the hotel?
Well this one was something, I'd only heard of his name in history but never knew what he had done, I think he was capable of killing 200 or more people, as usual Renee you spoke the story really well
He was definitely capable of some crazy shit.
and I thought Dr. Kevorkian and Lizzie Borden along with Karl Tonsiller AKA Count Karl Von Cosel were bad this man HH Holmes is so much worse
