You may notice that I put my own spin on the rhythm of this song. A "true" bossa nova has a very specific 2/3 or 3/2 beat (1..2..3......1..2...) or (1..2......1..2..3..). Mine is a bit different.
Hope you like it as much as I do!

I’m literally a total beginner, just picked up my uke a week ago, and thanks to your clear instructions I can now play this!!! One of my favorite songs of all times!!! THANK YOU💗💗💗
hania Elkomi oh man, I love to hear that!!!
Excellent explanation, this is the best video on learning this song I’ve found. Thank you! The bridge is so complicated... also I play ukulele in my car a lot.
Oh good! Kindred spirits. The car is an amazing place to play, so comfortable and the acoustics are amazing. Glad you like it Jason!
it is a very good lesson, Ive been playing for years and took your strumming of this song and learned to play the lead on this. thank you
Thanks so much for your clear explanation of this song. You are a great tutor!
You're welcome Eliz, I now teach at our Starlight Ukes Academy online. Maybe you'd like to join us some time for LIVE zoom classes :) New topics every month. starlightukes.com/upcoming-classes
Excelente Explicação! Perfeita em todos os aspectos (posição da câmara, detalhistas e esclarecedora, seu jeitinho paciente de explicar) Parabéns! Dani 👏 Grata!🙏😘
Very nice video! Thanks so much for sharing. You have a wonderful voice as well.
Looking fwd to 'catching someone's ear' with this one -- fun stuff! Thanks for the thorough drill-down. ♫♪
Oh so beautifully played!
I've been meaning to learn this for a long time and the timing was good to find this tutorial because a few years ago, my fingers wouldn't have cooperated. Walk down well explained. Should have gone to bed some time ago, but I couldn't stop exercising it into my head. Thanks much.
I love to hear that!
Bravaaaaaaaaaa thank you!!!😊
:) Thank you Elena. Have you learned how to play it?
Awesome voice.
Great tut.
Many thanks.
I find the bridge part very difficult to sing.
I always have problems hitting the right pitch if note.
It is a difficult piece to play and sing.
That said....it is a very clever and beautifully written song/ tune.
Thanks Peter. Hmmmmm..... Would you like me to do a "tut" :) (that made me laugh, I've never heard that before) with some tips on how to play and sing?
Ha ha!!
Yes Tut!!!
I also got confused with it when Read for the first time.
It's supposed to be the modern jargon for tutorial.
Tute would be more appt.
Yes please I would very much appreciate a singing tute and how to get those hard to go for notes on the " Ipanema " bridge.
Loads of people play but not play and sing.
Thank you for your kind offer.
Dani Joy - Thank you for this tutorial. Very helpful. Enjoyed listening to your CD on the way home from the Reno Uke Fest! You go girl! Keep up the good work!
gosh dani..if i could play this, i would be on top of the world..beautiful..thank you

Wow! What a huge compliment!!
Hi Dani Joy, I just discovered your channel with this tutorial. Subscribed and hit the bell for notification. I live in the far away land of Sonora, Ca. LOL Love your playing and vocal. Thanks for this, I Love Jobim.
Hey Sean, It's been a little while, how's your playing these days?
Amazing voice and tutorial!
This is the best sounding version I've found, but it's hard! I have a hard time making my middle finger shorter than my index while covering all the strings. Maybe it's your voice that makes it sound so much better than my attempts:) Thanks!
Yes it is her voice ……
Hey Kai, thanks :) How is it going now? Gotten much practice during the pandemic?
Shux, John, thanks :)
Thank you so much for taking the time out to give this great tutorial, really appreciate it : )

thank You !, i wish u have a vídeo tutorial of The solo
Thanks Julio, I'll work on that!
Yes please... me too, I watch the video over and over but still can't break the solo down successfully ..
I'd also like to add onto this and ask that all of the little flourishes/picking patterns be taught because I have difficulty picking things up.
I know you didn’t list the chords. But do you have a resources on all the chords for this bridge part ?
Love it ! I can’t access the PDF - says it’s not a secure site .
Omg I love you!
I love you too!
thats a low g string correct?
ryanjohns yes she mentioned that in the description
Hi Ryan, yes it is (Whew, this comment must've gotten lost in the mail 3 years ago ;) Are you able to play it today?
Thanks Hania :D I'm finally getting my act together and paying attention to my comments. I'm now going back 3 years to say hello. How are you these days? Has your playing improved through the pandemic?
@@StarlightUkes i actually gave up on girl from ipanema ... tried for awhile... the timing or groove for that song, for me was/is off for some reason... i'll get back to it some day 😁. no worries on the commenting thing... love your vids, ya got an awesome style!
Hi Dani. Thx for post your tutorial. Could you upload music sheet with the name of the chords? I can't get chords just by watching your fingers. Obrigado.
Here you go :) danijoymusic.com/learn-ukulele/music-pdfs/
I like your simple chords but it will be nice if you have the chords in dots to follow so thats its easy to put our fingers
Yes Jennifer I agree with you. I recently figured out how to do that on my other Jazz Ukulele Videos, I'll see what I can do for this one :)

Im sad because of the visual distorsions of the back ligth reflecctions and the ambience soun distractions. Dont shot there again, please! Thank you anyway for the song.
Haha... I hadn't planned to shoot there, but I had a short break from work so I found a park and filmed. I've made things better since then :)
