I'm so glad to see so many people on YT reacting to Nightwish and thus coming to know their music this way! Nightwish lore spreading all around!!!🤘🖤 Yeah! haha. I mean, you witnessed it, their music is so... God, no mundane word is enough to describe such magnificent otherworldly realm that they've created through their Music!!! Pure magic, regardless of who's the singer they're working with! Don't know if anyone already told this, but during this very concert ("End of an Era", it happened in 2005) where they performed their version of The Phantom, Tarja was very sick with a fever and severe throat infection. She didn't even know if she'd be able to sing that night, yet she did it marvellously! So if this is not the best she can do, just imagine how damn incredible she is at her best!😍 Well, firstly I'd like to say I strongly believe that, as true fans, we should enjoy NW's music from all eras (with all singers) because they're an incredible band, and we should respect and appreciate all lead singers who sang with Nightwish as the equally talented, great, amazing artists they are in their own different ways and rights (personal tastes and preferences are just that: personal), for each of them brought special, individual and unique elements to the band that helped them grow, mature and develop their artistic identity. And I feel grateful and blessed as a fan to have witnessed such three amazing, unique women as lead vocalists through NW's history, and of course MARKO, and all of the band, because they all have always been amazing since the begining!🤘💘 That being said, I'd like to drop down here a list with my songs suggestions by them in Tarja's era, since you reacted more often to NW with Floor and I'm more of an "old school Nightwisher" (although I absolutely LOVE their music in all eras!🤘💘). To me listening to her singing and her renditions is almost a spiritual experience! She brings an ethereal atmosphere with her voice, a spiritual otherworldly magic to anything she sings, and oftentimes evokes emotions in me that come from the deepest hidden corners of my soul! I just love her so much!💘 To me (and before anyone misunderstands me, I know that's ONLY about my personal preferences and how I personally feel hearing her voice and watching her performances) Tarja is special in many ways. I mean, it's not only her talent and the incredible technical control of her voice resulted from long years of full dedication and hard work, it's also her outstanding stage presence and this mesmerizing "dark&light sorceress angel/goddess" kind of energy she has; it's her operatic, expressive, rich, strong, dark, powerful yet heavenly and pure voice; and it's the deep emotional magic she's capable of delivering through her renditions. She has always given me goosebumps all over my body within the first seconds of hearing her, bringing tears to my eyes with every breath and touching the depths of my soul💖! I feel like she put an everlasting spell on me since I first listened to her, when I was like 13 or 14! Haha. Like, I won't deny Floor gives me reeeaally good Eargasms, but Tarja gives me full, deep and spiritually magical Eargasms, and makes me feel like I'm 'Walking in the Air' 💘A-hem... Anyway, as such a huge Tarja fan that I am, I must present you with her solo works, where she shows much more of her power imo, plus she has much more freedom since she started her solo career, she can compose and write her own songs, play piano, sing however she wants to, and just fully liberate her truest artist soul. Her solo musical style is quite different from Nightwish, even still having plenty of the symphonic metal elements as main references such as some kinds of guitar riffs, the epic orchestral arrangements and her remarkable operatic vocals, but she incorporates aspects of many other styles, AND it's just as magnificent!! I love the fact that she just walked her own path and found her "artist self", never trying to copy or recreate her old days with the band, and I absolutely LOVE the results of her choices, I hope you like it too. Tarja Turunen was the original Nightwish vocalist for almost a decade, defining a big part of their sound with her classically infused vocal techniques which combined perfectly with Nightwish's inicial power metal and later symphonic metal sound, and also with Marco's vocals, as you noticed it was a perfect match in every way! The great thing is that Tarja has been having an amazing solo career in the last 15 years... Her voice is really high (her last note on this one is an Eb6), but also a full and really powerfull sound (and in her career she always keeps on experimenting new things with her vocals, including a haunting dark and lower register she can belt out), plus having this theatrical presence on stage... I'm really glad you liked it! This always so bittersweet. This song was my introduction to nightwish back in the day. Then to see this performance and know that's when the band sent her the "open letter". Firing her. Right after they walked off stage.

The history was Tarja said she could only handle 1 more album/tour after end of an era. Her voice couldnd handle the 200+ shows a year and the bands party life. Also there was a old bad blood from highschool, Toumas was in love with Tarja and she meet her Argentinia(might be) husband and didnt fitt well. So insteed 1 more year and they gave her after this show a open letter firing her!
This is certainly a memorable performance, one of the best, and I'm glad you visibly enjoyed it! I've seen the musical on stage a few times, I adore the movie, but the symphonic metal versions are definitely something else. It adds another level of depth, another dimension!

If you enjoyed this, then you should really react to Floor's version with Henk Poort next! ;) It's from last year's season of Beste Zangers, a Dutch tv show where a bunch of singers are sent to Ibiza. Every week they dedicate a show to one of them, and the others sing songs that are important to them in some way. Think about idols, songs that they wrote themselves, etc. The last show are duets. Floor sang Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort, he's a Dutch opera singer and has performed as the Dutch Phantom for decades. I've been lucky enough to see that performance live earlier this year, and it's mind blowing Two other artists that are really worth trying are Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge (and Slash' band) and Marko Saaresto from Poets of the Fall. Both are outstanding vocalists with a very recognizable sound. For Alter Bridge I'd recommend Words Darker Than Their Wings at the Royal Albert Hall, and for Poets Carnival of Rust live in Moscow 2013
Henk Poort is supposed to perform Phantom with Nightwish at their concert in the Netherlands this November. If the show still happens let's hope they bring the camera and sound crew.

I actually found a band recently that is like Nightwish but heavier! They are Fleshgod Apocalypse and I suggest their song "Epilogue". It's very dope! I also recommend Heilung - "In Maidjan", Dawn of Ouroboros - "Spiral of Hypnotism", and of course Vintersea - "Illuminated"/"Crack of Light"

Until I heard this version of Phantom, I absolutely abhorred the male part of this song, because it sounded so whimpy. Having the growl that Marco does makes more sense.
The Musical versions of Phantom of the Opera are pretty, but there's nothing pretty in Phantom. The Metal version of the Phantom shows him as he is, a ruthless murderer and an insane narcissist.

I just love her so much!💘 To me (and before anyone misunderstands me, I know that's ONLY about my personal preferences and how I personally feel hearing her voice and watching her performances) Tarja is special in many ways. I mean, it's not only her talent and the incredible technical control of her voice resulted from long years of full dedication and hard work, it's also her outstanding stage presence and this mesmerizing "dark&light sorceress angel/goddess" kind of energy she has; it's her operatic, expressive, rich, strong, dark, powerful yet heavenly and pure voice; and it's the deep emotional magic she's capable of delivering through her renditions. She has always given me goosebumps all over my body within the first seconds of hearing her, bringing tears to my eyes with every breath and touching the depths of my soul💖! I feel like she put an everlasting spell on me since I first listened to her, when I was like 13 or 14! Haha. Like, I won't deny Floor gives me reeeaally good Eargasms, but Tarja gives me full, deep and spiritually magical Eargasms, and makes me feel like I'm 'Walking in the Air' 💘A-hem... Sorry about that😜 hahaha.
Anyway, as such a huge Tarja fan that I am, I must present you with her solo works, where she shows much more of her power imo, plus she has much more freedom since she started her solo career, she can compose and write her own songs, play piano, sing however she wants to, and just fully liberate her truest artist soul.
Her solo musical style is quite different from Nightwish, even still having plenty of the symphonic metal elements as main references such as some kinds of guitar riffs, the epic orchestral arrangements and her remarkable operatic vocals, but she incorporates aspects of many other styles, AND it's just as magnificent!! I love the fact that she just walked her own path and found her "artist self", never trying to copy or recreate her old days with the band, and I absolutely LOVE the results of her choices, I hope you like it too. So, here we go:

Here she sings while playing a grand piano, showing some dramatic nuances of her expression and voice, kind of "gothic vibes". She delivers such a touching, emotional and beautiful performance! It makes me shiver and cry every time! Close to zero reactors pick this performance, but imo more should do it, it's a "forgotten" treasure!

Tarja Turunen was the original Nightwish vocalist for almost a decade, defining a big part of their sound with her classically infused vocal techniques which combined perfectly with Nightwish's inicial power metal and later symphonic metal sound, and also with Marco's vocals, as you noticed it was a perfect match in every way!
The great thing is that Tarja has been having an amazing solo career in the last 15 years... Her voice is really high (her last note on this one is an Eb6), but also a full and really powerfull sound (and in her career she always keeps on experimenting new things with her vocals, including a haunting dark and lower register she can belt out), plus having this theatrical presence on stage... I'm really glad you liked it!

This song was my introduction to nightwish back in the day. Then to see this performance and know that's when the band sent her the "open letter". Firing her. Right after they walked off stage.

This is certainly a memorable performance, one of the best, and I'm glad you visibly enjoyed it! I've seen the musical on stage a few times, I adore the movie, but the symphonic metal versions are definitely something else. It adds another level of depth, another dimension!

It's from last year's season of Beste Zangers, a Dutch tv show where a bunch of singers are sent to Ibiza. Every week they dedicate a show to one of them, and the others sing songs that are important to them in some way. Think about idols, songs that they wrote themselves, etc. The last show are duets. Floor sang Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort, he's a Dutch opera singer and has performed as the Dutch Phantom for decades. I've been lucky enough to see that performance live earlier this year, and it's mind blowing
Two other artists that are really worth trying are Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge (and Slash' band) and Marko Saaresto from Poets of the Fall. Both are outstanding vocalists with a very recognizable sound. For Alter Bridge I'd recommend Words Darker Than Their Wings at the Royal Albert Hall, and for Poets Carnival of Rust live in Moscow 2013

I actually found a band recently that is like Nightwish but heavier! They are Fleshgod Apocalypse and I suggest their song "Epilogue". It's very dope!
I also recommend Heilung - "In Maidjan", Dawn of Ouroboros - "Spiral of Hypnotism", and of course Vintersea - "Illuminated"/"Crack of Light"

The Musical versions of Phantom of the Opera are pretty, but there's nothing pretty in Phantom. The Metal version of the Phantom shows him as he is, a ruthless murderer and an insane narcissist.
