As someone who did not see tomato harvest machines at all until recently, I am always intrigued to watch these. I have always been a huge fan of Red Gold products: (1) They far and away taste the best. (2) As a physician patients would ask me about the potassium content of various juices and fruit and vegetable products. I wrote a letter (yeah, it was that long ago) to the Red Gold people and they replied within three days with a detailed electrolyte breakdown (emphasizing the potassium) on their products. Great service.

Thanks Mike. First time I've seen tomatoes harvested from the field. Slow harvest speed and narrow swath. Must take forever to complete a field. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Mike. This is the first time i have seen tomatoes harvested. That old Veratile still earning it's keep.
I thought cultivating soy bean for the first time as a kid was a good way to fall asleep, this would be the same if tried.

Scruffy 61 Cultivating soybeans, planting tomatoes, driving the truck next to the potato harvester, cultivating tomatoes. This seems to be right up there!

That's why Red Gold products taste so good! They use Massey Ferguson Tractors! LOL Awesome video. I bet the Massey Ferguson DynaVT Transmission is a dream to match the best speed to harvest. Love to learn more about what happens inside the harvester. Is that a custom harvest crew or do farmers own the harvesters that each raise tomatoes. Really Really Cool to learn how they harvest tomatoes!

It would be interesting to know about the inner workings of the harvester. From the front shots, it appears both fruits and vines are taken into the machine. But, what happens then? The fruits appear on the conveyor out to the trailer, but how are they separated from the vines? I presume the fruits are largely damaged when getting to the trailer, but the damage is not important for the intended use.

Thanks Mike. Interesting to see something other than the usual grains being grown!
I wonder how that was done back when tomatoes bruised? Hand picking into one-layer flats?

That is really something to see . Yup field looks a wee damp eh. Do the tractor's have air for the gladhands or do they just back the brakes off on the trailer. I know what kind of soup your having for lunch Mike. Another Interesting video, thank you.

Mike thanks for sharing. What type Tomato plants are these they seem to grow on the ground unlike the ones we plant in the back yard that grow up right more like a vine?

The versatile in this video is the same model the dairy farm had where I grew up at they used the 875 did all the hay and corn chopping for the dairy operation out in the field.

An 875 with a PTO can’t be a common thing by any means. That’s neat.

Very interesting video, never seen it done like that in the UK, mind you a lot of ours are grown in 'greenhouses' ready for the table. Most of the sauce and puree etc is imported. Do they have to clean most of the mud off the wheels on those semi's before they leave the field, - you have to over here or else you get fined and heavily. Any agricultural vehicle that leaves mud on the road is causing an offence.
