I don't think it was a race. Trains are not allowed to play games. Possibly, both trains started at the same time by coincidence and both had the same allowed speed.

Yep, seen these type of races many times in between Bardhaman-Asansol. Few notable were 15047 vs 12023 , 12334 vs 12314., 12322 vs 12332(All at MPS ) But no matter how many times you witness, it gives you the absolute adrenaline rush every single time.

This type of train race is common between Howrah - Asansol line because there are two up line and two down line track(Quadruple electrified section). I had also seen this type of race between Patna Garib Rath and Asansol - Bardhaman Local.😊😊

I also had the privilege to watch something similar (Express trains) during my childhood. It was in between Howrah and Kharagpur and this is possible as there are three rail lines between these two stations. Have also watched local trains in Mumbai doing the same..

Usually for morning trains the hoerah bound direction is given the priority for using middle line as a high number of express and fast locals go towards howrah. The reverse happens during evening when the middle line is made available for kgp bound trains.
