  • "PRIDO - CHAPCHI" a very unique festival of Shertukpen Community particularly Shergaon Village. which is celebrated on 15th of 5th month as per the lunar calendar every year it is a day long event. on this auspicious day the Buddhist monk perform prayers in the gompa (monastery) for well being of all mankind
    The main attraction is the Bardo-cham. Bardo-cham is a kind of dance which is being performed whole day. this particular dance is depiction of Buddhist belief regarding the happenings after death and before rebirth.
    "Bardo" is the period whereby the human soul experiences many hardships before entering a new embryo. Basically "Bardo" means the limbo between death and rebirth while cham literally translates to dance. the dance is portrayed with the use of traditional wooden mask, representing the different animals and character there in.
    The main character of Bardo- cham is Apo dikchung. He is a sinner, an anti-social human being. A part of the dance shows how Apo dikchung committed various crimes against animals and the society. He had killed all the animals which is portrayed in the dance. He used to destroy Mane (Stupas) cut down Buddhist flags, destroyed bridges. He even neglected his own family member for selfish reasons. After his death, he entered into Bardo where he was published for his deeds. Apo dikchung cleared all the wrong deeds of his previous life after rebirth se Mane Pepema. Which reflects karma does exist
    beside Apo dikchung, Sangtong plays vital part in Bardo-cham. As per the zodiac sign rat depicts Sangtong. The people mostly enjoy watching Sangtong as the moves are very intensive. Sangtong is the centre of attraction during the cham.
