    I actually ran into one of these units at an antique shop a few weeks ago! :D
    Cool!
    BTW for anyone wondering how I found it. I was searching for radioactive antiques and the check source came up on my geiger counter! lol! :D

      Cheers, perfect use of the song lol as that was for the market this Geiger was produced for, my only one not for safety or radiation monitoring lol

    I think that big battery compartment near the back is for a thing we have in the states called a "Lantern Battery."

      It may have been.
      Batteries: Model 107B: two 1.5 volt, two 45 volt and one 22.5 volt batteries.

    My old science teacher just gave me a brand new Geiger counter from like the cold war or something for free which is pretty sick, takes those big expensive batteries though which sucks

      There is adapter. Looks like hollow battery, you put aa batteries in

      Oh you can spend like 10 bucks to get the power you need it depends on what type of Geiger counter it is but there is a step up system you can get that takes 3 1.5 batteries runs it through a circuit of capacitors and a transformer and makes 135 volts but it can be varied depending on your meter

    The Mallory Battery Company used to produce all the ‘odd’ sized cells required by the military back in the 50’s. Once they dropped the Mallory name and started calling themselves Duracell they simply stopped making them. For a while the Home Office actually had to place special orders with them to keep units like the Radiac Meter No.2 in service.

      That's an interesting fact but yeah shame these batteries are next to impossible to get now.

    Nice! I have the 117B scintillator version of this; it powers up but will not read.

    • @Weaponsandstuff93
      @Weaponsandstuff93  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome, cool they made a scintillation counter back in the 1950s.

    Weaponsandstuff- you can buy those “obsolete batteries” on amazon for roughly 10 USD

      Sadly can't find any in the UK, or even better the custom made battery converters.

      @@Weaponsandstuff93 I've designed and 3D printed a couple battery adapters for my geiger counters, would you the stl files so you can get someone over there to print em for you?

    I bought a vintage eico model 803 Geiger counter and I’ve got it running reliably. It makes perfect stereotypical sounding clicks. I might go down to one of the leading sources of high grade uranium in the world someday. It’s called the athabasca basin. Hopefully I can find some uranium

  • @Philip-KA4KOE

    Someone used to make a dc-dc converter to produce the HV to run these. I had the chrome version a few years back of the PRI. Channel here geoelectronics may help.

    • @Weaponsandstuff93
      @Weaponsandstuff93  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting any idea how it was wired up? As these like the old British Radiacs used several batteries on several circuits as far as I'm aware.

    • @Philip-KA4KOE
      @Philip-KA4KOE 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And stay away from the Gamma Master wrist watches. They are junk and overpriced.

  • @supnerd9149
    @supnerd9149 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    To power it up, couldn’t you use the power machine for the polish Geiger counter? Just connect the supply to the battery terminals with alligator clips.

    • @Weaponsandstuff93
      @Weaponsandstuff93  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sadly no as this uses different voltages for different circuits, also uses over 100V, my bench transformer goes to 62V

    • @ethansav0892
      @ethansav0892 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Weaponsandstuff93 There's a step up transformer you can use on ebay that takes 3 1.5 volt batterys and turns it into 100 volts but it can vary depending on what exact batteries it took

  • @SpasticSpelunker
