      Thank you!!! And you're very welcome, I'm honestly having fun 😄. I have tried both resume approaches and I would say that the easily scanned, minimal formats performed best for me. With that said, I think you can still add your own design flair to the ATS friendly resumes, maybe that could be a good video - a walkthrough of my old resume and how I made it my own. What do you think, would that be helpful?

      This is so true, the opportunities really vary by country and another country that seems to be having a lot of opportunities is India. I think that there is definitely a shift in big tech to increase hiring in Lower Cost of Living countries where the pay is a lot less to save money and you'll see a lot of growth in places like India and Poland which is definitely not great to hear if you're in the West. 🙁

      Oh no! Junior roles are tough right. We were actually talking about how we wish we had more interns and junior designers in our team but hiring has slowed down so much in the last couple of years. Have you looked at Pinterest? I know they have an apprenticeship program too. I don't think there's really any insider tip I can give you... the only thing I've found useful is keeping my eyes open on LinkedIn for posts of folks announcing junior roles but they are super competitive. The only other option are internships but the are usually limited to university students which I don't think would be helpful ugh I wish I had better suggestions 😥

  • @sanaag4702

    This is such great info! Thank you for sharing. I'm currently in the middle of completing the Google UX Design Certificate and I'm a bit worried about the resume part for these apprenticeships since I don't have a resume that particularly caters to design nor do I have a completed portfolio. Should I submit a resume that deals specifically with UX or would a regular resume (mine has mentions of my past work experiences in international-related fields and marketing) suffice? Also, which would be a better path to choose when getting your foot in the door of UX: an internship or an apprenticeship? I'm super interested in UXD and my passion for it is growing so I'm hoping that by the time the applications open I have something to show 😭

    • @rahpdesign
      @rahpdesign  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're very welcome! Don't worry at all about showing design experience in your resume because they're not expecting you to have any at all. They're actually looking for people that are new to design or switching careers, from bootcamps, etc. So, I think if you frame it as you're switching careers and explain that in your cover letter (if they ask for one), you'll be okay!
      Internships vs apprenticeships are different. For intern you'll need experience in design whereas apprenticeship you don't. Talking about Google specifically, internships require you to be enrolled full time at university whereas apprenticeships don't. Depending on where you fall between those prerequisites will determine which one is a better fit for you. Hope this helps and good luck! 💪

    This is a total lie. I literally just checked those exact links and when you click apprenticeship for IT, nothing comes up in the search results. The only options on those search pages are either requirements for already having a degree, or in the lowest level, you have to be currently working on one. Clicking on apprenticeships for one of the other categories just brings you to the search page again but it's showing results for jobs that clearly require degrees and loads of experience. Why lie?

    • @rahpdesign
      @rahpdesign  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As I mentioned in the video, the cohort applications for this year are already closed and the next cohort will start taking applications in the spring of 2024. Obviously, jobs that are not apprenticeships have different requirements and are unrelated to what was discussed in the video. As a designer at Google, I currently work with 3 of the 2023 UX apprentices so the program is still running and thriving. Please watch the full video and double check your research before making accusations and misleading aspiring apprentices. Good luck.
