Geoff is used to arranging for VoicePlay, so he always arranges for several voice parts. bass, baritone, tenor 2 and tenor 1. so he arranges for all those voices and then records all the parts himself, and puts them together like he would with a VP arrangement. and he picks out all the specific instrument plug ins he wants for each song (which sometimes can take him hours and days), including all special noises and effects, and records himself playing them on his keyboard.
After he just did I See Fire, where each clone had a specific vocal range, he did this. Every Geoff sang tenor, baritone, and bass, including the super duper low parts. He is just amazing. He was supposed to do pull ups, which is his go to exercise, but the bridge overhead was not as intact as they thought going in.
Geoff learned to play the Harmonica when he worked at Universal as Elwood Blues (The Blues Brothers)...he said he was a bit rusty but so used to it he was able to pick it back up. I am so glad I watched the BTS for this one. If you haven't yet had a chance...you really REALLY should... 😉 just...have some cold water to spray yourself with!!! He was hitting F#1s and that is his lowest chest note, which is why it sounds so low and resonant! He obviously goes lower than that with subharmonics but sometimes the raw chest power makes it seem lower than the cleaner sub sound.

Yes Kathy modified the shirts - adding the numbers which are the names of his clones in code. She also did the filming and anything else that needed doing in situ. Including closing the cell door at the end. They're such a fantastic couple. To the best of my knowledge Geoff prerecords all the singing first, adds the music accompaniement, then films each version of himself lip syncing, Then the magic happens on computer. I know little about that part of it. When they first saw the empty prison it had a walkway across where the Geoffs were standing and he planned to do pullups on it, but when they went to film it had goine, so he had to change to push ups. :)
I'm not a fan of country music, and I never liked Johnny Cash, but man, now I really can't stop humming this song! It's stuck in my head, and I keep watching Geoff's video, over and over again. I'm just glad I'm not the only one blown away! 🤩

I agree. Folsom is not one of my favorites of JC, nor was my first viewing of Geoff’s cover, but this is my 4th viewing/listen and it’s definitely growing on me.
I can remember when Johnny Cash went to the prison and that song was on every radio station for a while. I understand what you’re saying about the original. It isn’t a monotone precisely but it’s very simple and repetitive on its own. I think that having the accompanying vocals that change in pitch really adds to the song. It also really highlights (lowlights?) those low notes so they can be appreciated and all their glory. (Also he doesn’t have Eli yelling at him, lol. ) I was curious as to how you go about renting a prison so went to Google and pretended I lived in Orlando and wanted to rent a prison. All I got were studios with prison decor. I suspect that his little buddy Layne probably has some sort of nefarious contact, lol. And you really don’t want to go to that prison. There was no air conditioning and it was over 90° with the famous Florida humidity. On the way out they got stuck behind a car that was apparently parked and detained for an additional 10 minutes or so. I would imagine that was a little anxiety producing 🤯. And I REALLY think it should be a Patreon perk that you do a reaction to the BTS. Because we all want to see you react to certain parts of it!
