2017 was the last decent year. I remember how excited everyone was then thinking gemmy was coming back. I remember watching all those GMA videos talking about the products. All those old mechs and molds returning. The zombie. Black widow. Frank and Evelyn. And then next year we get crap like zultan
Well for Gemmy, even though they used to put a lot of efforts in their props, all good things must come to an end. The last good gemmy props were in 2011, which included The life sized ghostface and the Boris Karloff Frankenstein. what I'm trying to say is that other companies could learn from Gemmy's older days so that they can improve the industry
I have bought very few Morden Gemmy life sizes and for the most part i have been severely disappointed only decent ones are the grinch and the dapper skeleton from Walmart
It’s sad. I’m at the point where I just groan whenever I hear anything about gemmy. The worse part is that their props could be taking up the spot of better tekky/svi props. Imagine if tekky made the bride instead. Gemmy should stick to inflatables and plushes because at least kids will get enjoyment out of those
I feel like we're the victims of gemmy just completely changing their target demographic- it's very obvious to see when a company actually tries on a prop, it shows in cosmetics, reliability, etc, and just like you said, they're simply not trying. They're not allocating resources into animatronics anymore, they're shifting the company towards a more profitable market. From their perspective it honestly makes a lot of sense to keep the business going, but all the people that liked their props are the ones that suffer the consequences- the soul of the animatronic division was gone by 2012 and the rest was history. They missed the boat on the post pandemic halloween craze, but who knows, maybe they're still making a killing off inflatables and other things instead
This is hard to watch, but only because it’s true. And because I grew up with Gemmy Life size’s and owning quite a few since then. However, going from 4 movements in one prop, to 1 movement in one prop is absolutely sad. It’s like they’re going back in time. And I hate that they’re not using IR sensors. I purchased the Gemmy Leatherface. I liked it a lot, but I also had intentions of giving it a moving chainsaw. I shouldn’t have to do that. I customized mine a lot; and repainted it but with the glossy paint they used on the face, made it hard. Apart of me wanted that one the most because of the classic look, but also nostalgia reasons of “buying a Gemmy leatherface in stores” and that’s what got me. I don’t think they need to stop making life sizes. But I do think they need someone else in charge. Someone who’s less of a penny pincher, and I promise they’ll see sales come in from animatronics when they make them better. The best thing they came out with recently was the 12ft mummy. I may be biased because I love mummy props and classic monsters. But that guy is awesome.
You make a lot of good points here. While Gemmy does still make good stuff every now and then, they've been slacking in some of their departments, especially the licensed and tabletop plush animation. I mean, at least 75% of their licenced items consist of Disney characters these days. Sure there's some other licenses in their grasp that are good like The Grinch, Elf, and recently Garfield, but it's still for the most part Disney or property that Disney has bought in recent years. Mickey mouse, Star Wars, Nightmare before Christmas, Haunted Mansion, etc. And they even sneak in licences that are trending and popular at the moment. And their modules of choice are pretty repetitive too. Most of it is sidesteppers, happy shufflers, jinglers, and waddlers. There are some unique animations scattered in there, but it is indeed overshadowed by the aforementioned overused modules. It's clear that this company is (for the most part) a shell of its former self. And it just turned 40 years old. Let's hope the company can get itself back together completely before it's too late.
I wanna mention how with the “overused” mechanisms, they would originate from non licensed items with unique song choices, and there’s a lot I really like, but then when they start making licensed items out of the mechs, they get stale. Even the musical light strings got this treatment unfortunately and now they milked them so much that even they sold terribly last year compared to 2021-2022. With the non licensed plush, they actually do try to have different animations in those and isn’t just the same animation for everything. All the non licensed plush items Lowe’s is having for christmas this year all have different mechs, but with licensed stuff, it’s mainly just waddlers and happy shufflers (and few others). And also about the licensed items too, I feel like they overtook the non licensed/creative items. It’s clear that most of modern gemmys lineups since 2021 had nothing but licensed items, but I think it started getting bad in 2023, and it’s definitely worse this year. I was never as big on there new licensed items so seeing them having 95% of the lineups being licensed made me officially deciding to quit buying modern Gemmy items in stores, with the prices as well being super expensive for what they are. It’s like how in 2016-2019 they were so focused on meme items, these are the 2020s twerkers…
It is real sad to see... I company that I once knew as the absolute king of Halloween and Christmas is now the laughing stock of the Halloween and Christmas decor industry. Unfortunately the only thing that Gemmy still has running for them is tabletops and inflatables. All of these of which have downgraded in quality. It really makes no sense that they went from the best quality to worst. You made some very interesting points. This needs to be heard more because it's just ridiculous at this point.
You made a lot of good points now and I've been saying some of this too. Gemmy is just trying to be SVI but it's so much worse. Their collaborations with Party Time or whatever company they work with now is the worst thing to happen to Gemmy. You would think by now that they would get it. Times are changing and they need to get better but they aren't and it's really sad to see.
Gemmy’s life sizes since 2019 just haven’t been great, they’re extremely underwhelming in my opinion. The creativity just isn’t there anymore, they just put in one animation and call it a day. Their tabletops are still pretty good (the plush items are decent) but the life sizes are abominations that I wouldn’t dare to have in my possession, and that’s coming from someone who has even more bizarre knockoff items! Everything I bought in the past few years have been SVI or Tekky (some Crazy Create as well). If I buy anything Gemmy, it’s pretty much older stuff that I get off eBay or at thrift stores.
i don't think gemmy needs to stop altogether, i think they need to take a break and learn from the other companies who are putting out good Lifesize items like tekky, svi, and even crazy create now that's just my opinion
It’s no secret that Gemmy has been going downhill since 2009 and has been hitting rock bottom since 2015. however i still have hope and want them to continue. it’s definitely a management issue over there but unfortunately there is no way to fix that… It’s weird how in 2016 they randomly got better with a few lowes life size props and then continually got worse, especially after 2020 when lowes started using other manufacturers for their life sized props. I’m hopeful that MAYBE they can return to their greatness with servo tech but they’re just too stubborn and only care about making products as cheap as possible
Not to mention the Christmas dancing lifesizes, they’ve been using that terrible dancing mech since 2021 and it just looks bad. That Mickey toy solider Lowe’s is having this year has it and why??? And $300??? That’s literally a ripoff.
12:41 Pennywise is still such an awful prop though. The face is literally just colored a solid gray color, and the eyes look so bad.. Especially if you look at it close up , it’s just so bad…
One thing Gemmy has really gotten into in the past few years is Blow Molds. Which is great and all since there’s not many companies making them as there once was, HOWEVER they’ve even cheapened out there since the paint on them is so horrendously bad that it comes off at the touch of your finger. They just seem to lack quality control everywhere besides their Inflatables and tabletops.
I pretty much agree with everything that you said. I don't own any Gimmies and I don't want to. Because I don't own any, I have to assume at least the price point on theirs is lower than something like an SVI which is built much better. Svi in my opinion is the leader in the full size home animatronic market right now, they are kicking butt.
I 100% agree with you. Gemmy has never been a company I liked. Seasonal Visions is my all time favorite company. It's because they have unique ideas and their characters seem more realistic. Yeah their sound quality might be a lil compressed but I look over that. I see the light in Seasonal Visions and their teams amazing innovative pieces.
DD_RICHIAL 1, GET OVER WITH MODERN GEMMY HALLOWEEN LIFE SIZES!!!!!!!! Opse JK, Yeah, Moden Gemmy Should Take Notes On To STOP Making Pole Based Life Sizes. They Need To Start Doing Notes On Bringing Back Collapesable Life Sizes. Or Better Yet, We Should Make A Collapsable Dead Head Butler, To Teach Modern Gemmy A Lesson. Not To Mention That Their Halloween And Christmas Licensed Items (Like Rudolph, Frosty, NBC Disney Halloween And Christmas Items, And More Ect.) Are Starting To Get REALLY REALLY OLD!!!!!!!!!! So Bad!! Modern Gemmy Better Step It Up On Making New Offically Licensed Items. Like Strawberry Shortcake, More Toy Story Stuff, MLP (My Little Pony), Give Hasbro's Permission To Make Hasbro Stuff, And Remake Classic Spinning Snowflake Snowman And Classic Spinners.
You fine asf Donny boy
dawg wut lmaooo
I think gemmy needs to partner with another company like tekky toys or Svi to remake there props if they seriously can’t do it
I find it funny that i dont even buy modern gemmy items for the most part. I dont see myself buying modern gemmy items anytime soon
Yes You Do With The Snowflake Spinning Snowman And Frosty Remakes

how tf do they make the 5.8ft santa with 3 movements for $99 then a one movement prop like this for nearly double

Ik. And how come they can’t do any better with the newer life sizes than the og old life sizes
I personally think that Gemmy is hopeless!
