I moved to Vegas in 2018 and bought a sunrise villa. After only 3 years I could not wait to move. Overpriced HOA's, homeless people everywhere, heavy traffic, high auto insurance, lots of crime, poor air quality from all the air traffic, lots of undesirables hanging out near gas stations, parking lots...sorry I have to be so blunt. Green Valley and Anthem are the only places that were decent on the southeast area. I won't even vacation there. And...at 70 years old it's too damn hot
Yep...we have been here since the 90's and I have never seen it this bad. It's time to go, it is getting worse and it's too expensive to have all these problems, they don't clean up anything, they just scoot them along when a big event happens like the super bowl or F1, but they don't care about the locals and the crime and filth saturating the neighborhoods. There's maybe two places you can live safely, Anthem, all the way up. and parts of Green Valley or way up by the Villas in Summerlin. other than that, good luck , you better carry and constantly keep your head on a swivel here, it's sad how it is now. and car insurance...lolololol work from home, run errands within 1 mi of the house, no big trips...clean driving records, no claims yet we get to pay for the over indulgent crowd that can't wait to take their edibles or time it right before they get in their cars! So sick of this garbage...it's embarrassing to live here now.
Having lived here for the past 25 years, I would have to disagree with our utilities ranking one of the lowest in the country. My July power bill was $540. That is the highest I have ever paid in 25 years. Last years bill was $325 for the same month, with no changes made on my end. Water bill is also up as is my gas bill as well.
Hey Rich - what the ranking was measuring was the rates, not the usage, unfortunately. Yep, that hottest month on record translated into massive power bills for all of us this summer. Sigh 😞
How old are your HVAC units? We have five 5-ton HVACs for a 7,000 sq ft house and we pay $300 a month for electric (we are on the annual plan that divides usage by 12). Our gas bill for two tankless hot water heaters and kitchen appliances was $21 last month. We took out our lawn in front and back to put in desert landscaping and artificial turf. Our water bill is now less than $120 in summer and $45 in winter and we have a large eight foot deep pool on a .65 acre lot. I will say that our HVAC units were all replaced this spring with high efficiency units, but even before then our annual electric bill averaged $375 a month. We also replaced all of our lighting with LED. Maybe it’s time to replace your HVAC systems and put in LED?
This is desert period. Maybe it’s flourishing now but when there is limited water then what. I hope those that consider making the move, do their research. Job, property taxes, insurance this all adds up. Thank you Dale and Paula, love your channel, Patreon member Sue
Yep Sue, that is a worry that nobody (especially the resorts and the builders) ever talks about. We wish they would - so we would know there is a plan somewhere…
I really, really enjoyed your video!!! Sometimes locals forget how much there is to do in our area! We moved from Seattle five years ago and have not regretted it for a second. We love the strip, Art District, Downtown, Chinatown and all of the natural beauty around us. All of the theatre shows and huge musical acts are an amazing bonus too. We also love having an international airport and within four hours of the Pacific Ocean beaches.
Great video with good insight from you two who have lived there a long time. I had to chuckle about averaging 5 inches of rain annually. Several weeks ago a tropical storm system moved through, and I got that much rain in less than a day, and over a two-day period the rainfall totaled nearly a foot! I'm not considering a move to Vegas, but I think a "part two" touching on other subjects you couldn't get to in this one would be helpful for many considering a change of residence.
Love your videos. I always go the north outlets on every trip. Get a little confused trying to walk around though. Usually find something of interest. I also love the dry heat, my breathing is better in that climate. Beautifully photographed.
Great video ! Glad it’s gonna a bit cooler . I’ll be there in two weeks. I live in south Florida so I’m used to the heat . It’s was 94 today out by the pool. Hopefully I will run in to you two crazy kids on the strip 😎😎😎
It's in the 80's now but will climb back up into the 90's next week, we don't have the blanket of humidity you do but it's hot..cooler in mornings now and at night, which is nice. no more 95 at 5 am lol
I really loved this video and would love a part 2! My husband and I are thinking of moving to the Las Vegas area and this was very helpful. I would love to hear about churches and other community events/activities. Currently we live in northern Minnesota which is very beautiful but we are very tired of winter!
That was a great video! You really do give the best information. I started watching your channel when I was working from home during the pandemic and still love watching.
I think that I would like living in LV, but it’s not possible just yet. Great video. I hope you do cover in the future some of the other topics that you mentioned.
It’s suppose to rain this weekend (praying)🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. Paula I decorated for fall on 9-2, the colors lifted my spirits and I am looking forward to The holidays and cooler weather. Have a blessed week and thank you Dale & Paula❤❤❤❤
@@paulamckenzie I hear you, I live about 1/2 from the District in Henderson and Love to walk and window shop. But it better be in the 80’s to low 90’s first so Come on cooler weather🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🌸😊
Baby stacks is a wonderful local place for breakfast not that far from the Wynn. On our last visit we went to the Smith Center a beautiful theater. We also went to Myron’s at the Smith Center to see Frankie Moreno, he was fantastic in a small venue.
Spooky! Here I am watching this IN Las Vegas after spending a week here getting ready to MOVE to Las Vegas! I was her during the “tough/lousy years” (2008-13) and I’m hoping for a better experience this time around! The small group of friends I still have here remind that - despite the tremendous growth - you can still find pockets of communities that make it have that “small town feel”. Sure, housing costs have jumped - but are nothing like the SF Bay Area where I live right now! OK - back to watching the video! :)
Excellent video! Well done Dale and Paula👍 Lots to see and do that most of us tourists usually don't. Please do a Part II. PS: This video is so well-paced, and the editing is awesome! This must have been a lot of work for you two. Thank you so much!!!
I can't wait for cooler temps. Though it still makes me laugh, after moving here from the coast, when I utter the words, at least it's only in the 90s! Oh, hey, we just got a Boot Barn here! I'm excited. Haven't been in one since I lived in CA. Really informative vlog!
there's a Boot Barn that's been here for years on the corner of LV Blvd and Warm Springs, very nice! I told my friend who is back east the other day, I had to get my jacket to take out the dog as it is now 70's in the mornings and a little chilly, she said, WHAT?? lol you will notice when it falls under the triple digits, we will get colder faster, at least I do. we have been here for 30 years, I can no longer take real cold, lol.
The main concern or question I have is how much is the electric bill from may -sept . 100+ degrees for weeks but even at the night the low is high 80s and the air conditioning is running constant I assume . Living in upstate NY is nothing to Las Vegas winters I am use to snow and minus temps in Jan n Feb . Love the content and wish you both much success and see the channel grow . Have a great day everyone
That’s an important question, Linda. For this hottest July on record, our power bill was $400.50. We have a 2500 square foot house, and keep the thermostat at 76 all the time. June was $350. (Living here, I find doing equal payments throughout the year works best - that way you don’t have those huge outlays in the summer months.)
I live in NY too. I can't image wishing the weather would cool down in September. I'm already feeling that winter chill at night. I would be happy with 3 more months of summer. Maybe one day! 😊
It's a shame that they put in that timed entry reservation system at Red Rock (*). And then Nevada state parks followed suit last year. As a retiree, I don't do regimented anymore. But luckily, the Scenic Drive is only a very small part of the overall Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, and there are lots of beautiful trails outside of the fee area. And some of those trails from outside the fee area go right into the fee area. (*) It's not about the overcrowding, it's about the money from the reservation fee. If it was about the overcrowding, the system would only be in effect on weekends and holidays. The parking lots are never full during the week. Often, they're only about 1/3 full.
My husband and I sure love and enjoy all your videos. You are our favorite! Always Interesting content. Wish you’d have a meet and greet. Love to meet you both in person one day! Keep up the fun videos!!
Thank you for the kind words! A meet & greet would be hard because people travel here to LV at all different times. If you’re coming to town, and want to meet, write us and let’s see if we can make it happen. 😊
Henderson was my first choice to retire to but the brutal summers are just to much for me. Early morning walk and the temperature is still in the 80s to 90s. No thanks. That is just too much especially compare to southern California. Looking at northern NV or Prescott AZ with its mild weather. Only problem is lack of good medical care.
You just keep outdoing yourselves with the quality of your videos. I love LV and I’d live there in a heart beat if the stars aligned but housing is way overpriced. I think the bubble will burst before too long.
I went to Las Vegas for a family vacation around Easter, and fell in love. Not a partier or gambler, and I was so surprised and thrilled to see there is so much to do! I live in Buffalo, NY. We only have a few months of nice weather. I can already feel that winter chill at night. If I wasn't alone, I would move down in a heartbeat. But I would need to live somewhere with a pool. 😂
You two should do a Vegas video with Jacobslifeinvegas! That would be fun to see. He goes everywhere in Vegas including North Vegas! I would not go to North Vegas ever I get scared fast
We haven’t ever met Jacob in person. We lived on the edge of North Las Vegas for close to 20 years, and it is nowadays one of the fastest growing areas in the valley. Not sure what is scary about it. There are dicey spots in certain areas of town (like every town, and we avoid them) but by and large NLV is just suburban sprawl.
May I ask what is scary about North Vegas? I was only on the strip and Freemont St. so both tourist spots. I'm not even sure what part of Las Vegas those areas are considered.
Thank you so much for this video on moving to Las Vegas. I like to play the slots and I have Las Vegas on my bucket list. Do you think if I came there for two weeks I would get a good idea of what Las Vegas has to offer? I would love to see a part two. Have a blessed day.
I think two weeks (and a rental car) would be a good amount of time to explore the neighborhoods, get a feel for what it’s like away from the resort corridor. 👍
maybe but you really have to live here to see if you will like it or not. I feel it has gone downhill , we have been here since the 90's and you must prepare yourself to see all the homeless junkies that are now everywhere, I mean everywhere. Gas is over 4 per gallon, groceries are very expensive. I go grocery shopping once every 2 weeks. What used to cost me between 150 - 200 now runs 350-400. and it isn't prepackaged garbage, it's the things we need and use and home cooked meals I get leftovers out of. it's not so great here anymore. two weeks won't do it. Also, and I know it has medicinal purposes, I am not knocking that, however, weed is legal here and dispensaries are all over the place. car insurance has sky rocketed because it's a "party, high risk city" even though you may not engage in that life, you will be paying for those that do. Besides this, the drunks on the road, and those without insurance, tons of them, is why our insurance here is way too expensive. we have clean driving records, work from home, no risk factors other than we live in a town where the over indulgent crowd can't control themselves, we get to pay for it.
LOL no, but we’ve been going there more or less since the chain first came on the scene. Our viewers know we like it, so referring to it in the video was kind of poking fun at ourselves.
Waah, Waah, Waah....you make me sooooo home sick. But as more people move there isn't there a financial concern. I have not even finished watching. But, I'm wondering if there is affordably to Boulder City? Oh I feel like you are family.
I moved to Las Vegas from real CITIES….meaning, walkable neighborhoods, charming shopping and dining streets, stores and pubs / restaurants owned by individual families and people. There is NONE OF THAT in Las Vegas. Endless strip malls, CHAIN STORES, CHAIN RESTAURANTS, big box stores like Wal Mart, Home Depot, Ross. I’ve been EVERYWHERE here, from Henderson, to “fancy”?!?! Summerlin, and everywhere else…..I will say The Art’s District has some of the INDEPENDENTLY OWNED, charming businesses I’ve been looking for….but that’s about it. Sure it’s CHEAP to live here, but it’s like a sweater, you can buy a sweater at Walmart for $20……but will you be HAPPY with that $20 sweater?! Many people will (and they enjoy living in Las Vegas)……but I want a nicer sweater, made of a natural material, more premium, and not polyester……it’s going to COST MORE. I’ll be moving back to a REAL city, with charm, and character…..and not just thousands of big box, chain stores, in ENDLESS strip malls.
I know you watch our channel often (I recognize the handles of folks I see frequently), but I’m not sure why you are yelling at us over this video. We had a viewer request that we feature this topic, as they’re considering a move here. We compiled as much as we could into this one, recognizing that maybe another would be appropriate to cover even more aspects (that we currently have no footage for). That being said, if you really hate living in Las Vegas, I truly hope you are able to relocate somewhere that you’ll be happy. I’m not sure strip malls and the things you mention are enough reason to discourage people from coming here, particularly as we have some of the finest, most unique dining establishments, entertainment, shopping, etc, to be found in the world…right on the Strip. People should pursue a place to call home that fits them, meets their needs, makes them happy. It doesn’t have to be Las Vegas…luckily there’s a big beautiful world out there. 😊
It was great to see you including the Aces, the Aviators, and the NFR in your video. I was one of the very first to get an Aces season ticket, and it's been great to see the fan base grow. In the first few years, the place might be less than half full, but now every game is a sellout. Las Vegas Ballpark is a great place to see a baseball game. Note: Starting next year, Aviators season ticket holders will have priority for Athletics season tickets when they come here. And finally, in addition to the NFR, we're honored to have the Indian National Finals Rodeo at the Southpoint Arena every year. Nobody can do a good natured heckle like the INFR crowd. Sample: When a bronc rider got helicoptered off of his horse, and just as he was hitting the dirt, a fan yelled "Welcome to earth!"
Really good vlog! I've often fantasized about moving to LV but never pulled the trigger. Probably never will. But you have set my mind wandering. Who knows?
We always toy with the idea of moving to Vegas! We have relatives here. This was very informative. Also I have to say, Blueberry Hill are probably my favourite pancakes ever! They are absolutely delicious and super fluffy! Hope you are both doing well. Zan
Good video but I don't think you touched enough on the negatives of living in Las Vegas, such as the high cost of car insurance, heavy traffic and endless construction, almost all intersections having turn lanes so red light running is common because everyone knows if they don't they will be sitting there for awhile and air pollution. I enjoy your videos but think you need to do a more realistic one.
You want the truth? Someone asked us to do this topic, and we scoured six years’ worth of video, plus went out and captured a bit more, to select and present 10 aspects of living/moving here that we actually had footage for. If you notice, we didn’t appear on camera much in this video, or give our opinions…we just shared some info and some positives, again, for the topics we had footage for. We don’t have footage (yet) of the other things we mentioned / schools, health care, churches, etc. And no, we didn’t cover the insurance costs or the traffic lights, or the fact that there’s no water, or so many other negatives. Perhaps there will be a part two sometime, and we will list all the reasons to never move to Las Vegas. Regardless, thanks for watching, we appreciate it.
No business has ever paid us one cent for any content on our channel. We come up with our own ideas, we go out and film them, we write our own scripts, and edit our own videos. We love living in Las Vegas, and we enjoy showcasing it on TH-cam. That’s the sum of it. 😊
One thing we found moving from Cleveland Ohio to Myrtle beach SC was we missed world class hospitals and plenty of doctors. We’ve grown here by thousands more seniors from the north coming here avoiding Florida. Cheap cost of living. Overcrowding the past 7 years here is awful. Please tell the downside of Vegas
What downside would you like us to show? We mentioned that this video didn’t cover health care, schools, etc, and maybe a part 2 would be in order. We have satellite locations of Cleveland Clinic, we have a university teaching hospital affiliated with UNLV, and we don’t wait months for appointments. Yes the valley is growing, there’s construction, there’s more traffic, but it isn’t LA. There are other TH-cam channels that maybe show you the bad parts of town, but we aren’t going to do that - we are escapist entertainment and we want tourists to come here!
I would be there tomorrow, if I didn’t help with 92 year old in laws. Always be nice to your daughter n law 🤔. Wish I would have bought in the 90s😉. Our cousin stays 4 months at the Tiki long term resort. That would work great for us, and we can flee the Vegas heat. 😎

When we come to Vegas we rent a car and go do what locals do off the strip. Want to move south and get a condo.
Sounds like you enjoy the best the town has to offer! 👍
Jacob tells in detail.
Are you an Applebee's owner? I really like going to Applebee's. The food is good and very reasonably priced.
LOL no, but we’ve been going there more or less since the chain first came on the scene. Our viewers know we like it, so referring to it in the video was kind of poking fun at ourselves.
😅great tour in football stadium
Las Vegas video Jim Ross ATL 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😊😊😊😊❤❤❤
Thank you Jim for watching 😊
Nice video but I love LA
When Houston is cooler than Vegas, we have a problem. 🤔
😂
my brother keith lived there and die there ,I wanna go there to live ,I'm getting sick of NYC
Well we hope you can make it happen 😊
Cute
I Wanna move out of Las Vegas!
Are these businesses that paid you to mention them or are they your own honest reviews
I love that idea, and I hope you can make it happen! You’re a great DIL to take care of the elderly in-laws. ❤
Never in a million years
