I've learned so much from Charles Taylor, and I'm pleased he's still going strong. I can't think of anyone who's done more to connect philosophy with social thought, and in a way that shows us to a new kind of politics.

Garry Smalls, Charles Taylor, arguably Canada's greatest living philosopher and political theorist, most definitely knows FAR more about what's going on in Quebec than you will EVER know.

I happen to actually find it kind of hilarious to read the comments below of people who really think this is the evil-Charles Taylor. How surrealistic would it be, to whatch this video through that lense!!

Charles Taylor you must believe in something to feel the meaning

+ALGERIAN32 OpenSesame Taylor's thesis is that "meaning" goes deeper than belief but does not exclude belief.

life itself is axial for each one of us...each of us lives our lives as part of an ancient development of intelligence...and it is ongoing. what is intelligence today is slightly different from what it was 1000 ya. and will be very differently "seen" 1000 years from now.

What does Charles Taylor want in the final word? He talks a great deal but rarely says what his basic vision is.

Taylor always seems to gloss over the effect of globalization and its elites. The racial diversification of a nation does not occur without influence and force. Like most Liberals Taylor sees diversity as a positive force in culture and the negative response from populists as xenophobic. In actual fact in 1971 when Canada declared itself Multicultural it was 90% european. Multiculturalism did not well up from below it was enforce from above. It was seen as a broadening of ideology to affirm all differences and heal appease diversity at the time. Now that Quebec has moved on to a secularism/religion polarity the original motivation for Multiculturalism needs to be put under the microscope. In Canada most Canadians never understood the identitarian roots of Multiculturalism and its potential for stirring up Racial hatred. Quebec's tensions against its internal diversification and subsequent cultural purification highlights the failure of the Multicultural project.

"A government committed to un-religion?" The US and Canadian governments don't seem to be committed to that. The simply are upholding the need to keep religion in the private realm and out of the public realm. Secular ethics, non-bias toward religions, that's a problem for Taylor on the state side of our community? If so, that's seems like a bad idea.
