    Another informative video Mr Bridgeman. Cutting down healthy trees for no reason, that would be a different story. There are many reasons to why cutting trees isn't a negative thing, like you just explained :) I think most (if not all) of your subscribers can see how much respect you have for nature.
    And the thumbnail is pretty amazing by the way. 🤣

    I coppiced a willow in my back garden last year because it was starting to die back in places; I figured it was worth a try to try and save it. It was very close to my house and I didnt like the idea of it dying and the amount of water in the soil changing dramatically.

    Totally agree Kyle. I have a site and am planning to build my house on it (replacing a derelict one). There are beautiful trees in and around the garden I’d love to keep them all but some will be too near the house. I will remove only those I have to and will coppice those I can and leave alone any others. A neighbour coppiced all trees On their site about 15 years ago and they are so fully regrown already.

      I think I'm going to do a stream/video related to this topic soon, too many people are afraid of nature. As a keystone species humans have the power to destroy an ecosystem and the power to create a more abundant ecosystem than would naturally be possible, and sometimes both simultaneously.

    You really don’t have to justify cutting down your own trees on your own property. We had a few nearly dead trees which we had to cut down for fear that they could fall on the house. Great job Kyle

    I understand how people are very protective over our living environment especially trees, as Ireland has not the best reputation for managing forests well whether commercial or recreation. They see Sitka spruce plantations which have no biodiversity, and are still today being clear-felled. I think many people restored relationships with the natural environment during covid and are more sensitive to seeing disturbances or trees/hedgerows ect. Sadly, it’s created extremists who go too far and lack true knowledge - run by emotion primarily. It’s good to leave the root of that species as it had nitrogen fixing nodules and helps with soil fertility.

      @@thebridgemanscottage oh it will come,the future adoption of continuous cover forestry as an additional management practice will give an alternative to clear felling. Clear felling is here to stay but supplemented by other management practices that promote biodiversity and permanent cover will be a welcome addition by all.

  • @richardsilver98
    @richardsilver98 ปีที่แล้ว

    Might be ever so slight a stretch to say that felling the tree is better for the tree, but all-in-all I think you've justified perfectly well why you are managing the trees in the way you are. I, too, have needed to remove trees and indeed have been compelled by the municipal authority to do so as part of dwelling permit process. The approach I take is to replace every tree removed with one (or more) that is more appropriately located etc, but it's still rough to see large trees coming down. Hurts the soul a bit. Also, and just for interest, I am pretty sure that there is live tissue beyond the cambium layer, where there is usually sapwood - actually I think that is where the xylem cells are, with the phloem cells being located in the inner bark. I could be wrong. Stay well.

    point them to the vid of planting the hedge!
    omg i burn wood use wood spent 40k on on 17 acres and replanted with thousands of trees. which will need may hundreds of hours to maintain. tell em to jog on ! and ask them if they have worked out their footprint on the earth.

    • @thebridgemanscottage
      @thebridgemanscottage  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah managing a larger area like that thinning out the canopy by removing the larger trees allows more sunlight to hit the forest floor warming the soil and allowing the shrubbery and herbacious layers to grow alongside the trees! Forests need management and humans have been managing woodlands for thousands of years. We're a keystone species.

    I think the big problem is that trees are cut down everywhere. So there are not as many trees on the planet as would be sensible. So we all react to cutting down a tree: oh no! Cutting down a few for firewood and furniture has to be done if we like it or not.

      @@LotusConsciousness Oh for goodness sake, he cut down one tree....not an entire rain forest. And as Kyle discussed, the tree isn't dead. But don't get me wrong....I completely understand that us humans as a species, are incredibly destructive. The Easter Islanders essentially destroyed their population by cutting down the last tree on the Island. Humans are pretty messy and I honestly believe we'll have far bigger problems that could eliminate us way before we run out of trees. And considering around 50% of earths oxygen is produced by plankton...maybe we should also be a bit kinder to our oceans. This one tree being cut down and saved to produce new shoots is not something I consider an issue for our future. Kyle explained his reasons for it (not that he needed to) and the fact that the tree is still alive and will provide plenty of uses in the future, including helping his surrounding environment.
