- The origin of this compilation video is simply that I wanted a complete version of the soundtrack to listen to in the background while I was working, but could only find individual tracks on TH-cam. Thanks to SquareEnix for letting people like me enjoy this classic RPG music.

This whole soundtrack made me go “oh my god!”
But Pandemonium made me go “oh my FUCKING GOD!”
The main theme of FFII is definitely the most slept on of the main series

The symphonic version from the Final Fantasy Symphonic suite is amazing!
Most of its soundtrack is underrated
I go to sleep with it playing on the background regularly so... definitely not the case with me.

I always remember the Sovngarde theme from Skyrim when this song plays.
Rebel Army is one of the best pieces of classical music ever written and brings so many memories back from being a child, sitting with friends who are no longer with us, playing Final Fantasy games for the first time ever.
It felt like it would last forever.
Apparently it's loosely based on the Throne Room score from Star Wars. Makes sense considering how Star Wars-y Final Fantasy II's plot is. Four orphans join a rebellion against an evil Empire? The Emperor is a powerful magic-user? He has a mysterious knight in black armor as his right hand man? Yeah.

Never played FF2 until 2021 and loved this OST in particular. All the Pixel Remaster OST were good but 2 and 6 really stood out to me.
Battle theme A is peak
Sometimes I wish that the battle theme didn't interrupt the dungeon theme, this Pandaemonium version is absolutely amazing.
I have that issue with some other FFs as well, the Magitek Research Facility theme in FF6 is so good I wish the battle music didn't interrupt it
They made the Emperor's Revival sound more intense and menacing it fits even more perfectly than the PSP arrangement

17:03 The flutes and the slightly haunting chorus in the background convey the wistful melancholy of this otherwise majestic piece so beautifully. I’m obsessed with this OST. FF2 for all of its thorns has one of the best soundtracks in the series imo, and this remaster does it such justice.
@@NickOleksiakMusic I agree! I’ve played the Famicom version all the way though, and I replayed it shortly before the pixel remaster for comparison. At first I thought the remaster was too easy, but I quickly realized that it was operating under very similar mechanics but so much faster and less tedious. I like 2 even though it’s definitely a bit of a mess, but if I ever really wanted to replay it, it would be the pixel remaster all the way.
I suggest using boosts to cut the stat growth in half, and remove the "automatic HP growth". I did and had no trouble at all beating the game without grinding. People make a lot of noise about having to attack your own characters, but really it's 100% not required. If you have enough HP, no enemies will be able to take enough out in a battle for it to grow. If your HP is low, enemies will take a chunk off, and it will go up, until you have enough to breeze through the dungeon.
The hill gigas were a bit rough the first time I went through the dreadnought, but with magic it was still very doable. Bit of a hassle to level up magic though. @@IDidntWantAHandleTH-cam

This version of "Battle Theme B" _vastly_ surpasses the original one (and I _loved_ the original one).
That additional bit before the loop (at 48:27) was also a great touch.
I always loved this theme. It's so mystical. Loved the guitar on the background now.
I prefer the original a lot more personally. I like this rendition, but it just sounds too subdued to me compared to the original.

I had never played FF2 before and I bought this game for its soundtrack. I finished it yesterday and I loved it ! This game has a lot of charm.
DAMN I never thought the Pandaemonium theme could hit harder than it already did.
Came here for a clean version of Battle B, you're a savior.
Just beat this one lastnight. The word "epic" is thrown around so much these days it has lost a lot of meaning, but there's no other way to describe this "Pandaemonium" theme. Going through the dungeon, killing all the optional bosses that guard the Genji equipment, then finally knocking out the Emperor once and for all was made so much more fulfilling with this blasting in the backgound. Really makes you feel like this is the Do or Die moment you've been working towards the entire game.
Dichotomy in Irony that they cheese you or you have no challenge is funny. I am glad pixel remaster improved music here as opposed to ff6, and boost made it way better let alone double shield boosts with unarmed despite nerfs for better ultima.
No more trap door hell, blood sword/tome abuse nor needing to retreat forever with encounters off as you can't teleport out of last dungeon without heavy backtracking. Chocobo theme is better though I think it is missing in this vid. Old mobile version/psp looped badly.
As mediocre to bad as FFII is the music is far and away the best of the original trilogy to me (and honestly the best game of the three imo)
Everything about FF2 is underrated...the story is great, especially foe the time, I like the characters (though they could be fleshed out more) and the music is some or the best in the series (Pandemonium and The Main Theme are absolutely brilliant). The leveling system is...diffrent, but if you can get a handle on it, it's really not that bad. In truth, I love FF2.
I always liked the leveling system in FF2, but it does need a lot of work. I just love being able to do the opposite of what is "intended" for the characters, like making Guy the spell-casting bow user, and Maria the dual-wielding power house. And even though the game uses pre-determined characters, it still has a bit of a roleplay feeling with how the characters act in combat.
And the story is one of the darkest. How many peoples died? And the villain kinda succeed his plans to rule hell and heaven.
There's only one flaw with the story that i didn't like. The fact that leon was not brainwashed and was in control of his own actions the entire time. Even declaring himself the new leader after Emperor Mateus was defeated. Some may argue that him losing his parents and thinking his friends died in battle broke him. 🤔 But i would say no, people seem to forget that moments before Emperor Mateus came back from hell itself leon was ready to fight his own friends. Only joining them in the 11th hour of the campaign. But i see this one little detail as poor writing. ( 🤔 Him being under mind from Emperor Mateus would have fix this problem). Other than that the story is great.
FF2's story is weak Star Wars fanfic.

Battle Theme B is so good
Especially in FF2, they killed it with the final dungeon and final boss themes in the Pixel Remasters. Pandemonium is still my favorite final dungeon theme so far. (Currently playing FF5, and haven't played FF6 yet)
while i still haven’t fully grasped this game’s mechanics i still feel once you get into it’s a great entry in the series that really started fleshing out story and character as a high priority.
and the soundtrack both old and new is absolutely incredible

35:48 this version of FF2's battle theme 2 is without a doubt the best version of it.
the psp/20th anni version was deff good but pixel remaster really blew it outta the water with how much more menacing it sounds with that glorious build up-
the main theme and battle theme B deff sound amazing too! tho the psp deff has a bit of an edge with its extra part in the main theme.
the rebel army theme is just complete legit perfection no matter what version, its just that good-
as for battle theme 1, pixel remaster is literally the best version of it, far superior to the psp version without a doubt, esp as it legit preserves the nes pacing of the sound track-
tower of the magi+ancient castle sound amazing too, and pandemonium is deff the best in pixel remaster with that added chorus-
big oof for battle theme A, its deff worse than the psp which was more triumphant-
I agree completely, loved everything about it besides battle A, it just feels boring compared to the psp version of it
I can’t disagree more with battle theme A. Personally the PSP version is the one I like the least. Sounds atleast to my ear to way too march like and choppy.
On the other hand,battle theme B is the best
Thoughts on the new version of the Imperial Army theme? I personally find it finally found it’s footing and managed to convey the overwhelming power and suffocating stranglehold of the empire very well compared to all previous renditions.

Let’s be honest, Pandaemonium straight up slaps. Just beat this a couple days ago. It’s not the best Nobuo OST but it deserves so much more love than it gets. There are a ton of bangers here.

Man, it really bugs me that in six albums, FF2 is only represented in the occasional medley and never has any of its own tracks for the Distant Worlds collaboration CDs. So much good music they’re just sleeping on. 😢
My fav FF and my favorite OST, but the PS1 Main Theme has a sliiight edge on this one, with the guitar

The Pandaemonium track is beyond epic!
Also, I just realized Minwu died in vain, sort of. The buffs were probably negligible. The ultima needed leveling to do any real damage and the only thing his death contributed to was progressing the game's story. Considering Paul had a secret weapon stash, no magic spells were needed and even without the sword, the last boss wouldn't be impossible to beat.
They didn't have to go that hard on the Pandaemonium theme!
It's now the definitive take on Pandaemonium.

I just looked at footage from the switch and I think you’re right! They said they made a lot of small changes alongside the big changes for the console ports, i had no idea this was one of them! Good find!
FF2 does not get enough praise for its story and soundtrack.
Probably because the original on the famicom gave the game such a bad reputation with its atrocious gameplay. The later versions are way better but still feel outdated
@@Torinna_ Only ever played the Pixel Remaster, the original was before my time. Kept wondering what all the empty rooms were for. Looked it up and found out that they were 100% encounter rate trap rooms with difficult fights in them... I immediately understood why my dad never finished it when he was younger.
@@cyootlabsmy biggest issue with it is how MANY of those rooms there are, like if it was now and then that’d be fine but it’s basically every other room. It’s like if 90% of chests in a dungeon were just mimics throughout the ENTIRE game

This soundtrack, too, seems to be a mixed bag... There are definitely some compositions that are improvements over the PlayStation/PSP versions, like "Run!" and "Castle Pandaemonium". Yet there are some that are definitely worse as well (like "Ancient Castle" and "Town Theme"). The renewed "Main Theme" also sounds weird; it's like something you might hear in a Final Fantasy concert but in the game itself, the B part sounds out of place.
Oh, and it's a pity that the "Ending Theme" is completely absent from this video.

GBA battle theme was far superior.
I describe FFII as melancholic. It’s a depressing story and I love it.
