Hard to believe this song was a hit 50 years ago. A half-century! But it still sounds great.
RIP Helen Reddy. And thank you.
VOTE 🗳️ LIKE OUR LIVES DEPEND ON IT! 💙💙🌊🌊🌊💙💙💙🌊💙🌊🌊💙💙💙🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊💙💙💙😎
Facts. Coming from a guy in a rural county in Ohio. Absolutely voting for Kamala,so is my Mom. 💙💙💙💙
It is 2024 and certain people are trying harder than ever to take our rights back 50 years. I am going to spread this link all over the internet!! You did a great job on this video. I was in high school when it came out and, sadly, it resonates once more and who EVER thought that would happen to us again!!
Honey, it's leftist women who are doing most of the damage. I find it deliciously ironic that after having songs like this blasted out of every radio in the nation for years, today these selfsame women now allow a man to tell them who can and cannot be a woman, and how to define their very womanhood. I am woman, indeed!
I love this song more today. The conviction in my soul is much stronger now. We're not going back!
Yes I'm a man. However still, WERE NOT GOIN BACK!!!!! 💙💙💙
A lot has happened since the beginning of the most resilient generation that has ever existed. Surely this generation will not pass before the final victory flag is flown!
God has given us another chance ladies let's not blow it!!😊😊
Just letting you know you I'm sure I am one of the many men that have your back, plus I would never vote for that orange mess. 💙💙💙💙 Also I just gotta say as a man we have absolutely no right to tell any woman what she needs to do with her body. But I was also raised with morals. We're not going back!!!!
Sad if you're voting just because she's a woman. She has flipped flopped on policies to get votes. That's where Hillary went wrong. Thought people would vote because she was a woman. Glass ceiling. Please vote for policies, not because she is a woman.
Such a powerful song and woman. She inspired me as a young woman with this song. RIP Sweet Helen

My mom played this 8 track over and over in the car. I remember it from the time I was 9. It was mind-blowing to me during those tween yrs. A song about how strong we are, and how strong I could grow up to be. I grew older, found rock n roll, Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, heart, Pat Benetar and on and on.... those women, for me, were always connected to Helen Reddy. They were women and they were invincible and I knew I could be too. Thank you Helen ❤❤❤
It’s time for women to stand together and fix this country. Let’s go Ladies!! 💙 #Harris2024.

Jack your sperm will never be worthy of any women so long as you keep up this nonsense, and i feel sorry any women that does bring your children into a world that allows people like you to think you have the right to dictate another person's personal choices., especially if you have daughters, those poor children with grow up and be so fucked up because of the shit you spew. Good luck to you and have the life you deserve. 🖕🏻
It's more relevant now. I don't think she had a clue men would do what they've done to women's sports, etc. Feminists from those days that are in their golden years reject what's happening. They reject the feminism of today. It's not the same thing.
Even more so.

We need this song now more than ever!!!!!!!!
Really? More than ever? Your life is worse than womYn 100 years ago? 500 years ago? Count your blessings and be grateful.
@@kerryhill4470, I’m 67 and I think I understand what she meant. We as women feel like we are being pushed back not going forward with Trump’s dictatorship platform & plans with his Agenda 47 & Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025. Women fought for decades to secure the right to vote and finally won that right but do many feel we are losing that right abd we’ve seen the kickback of Roe, the abortion ban, knowing Trump is a misogynist, sexist hearing about Trump’s push of dictatorship. Beginning in the mid-19th century, several generations of woman suffrage supporters lectured, wrote, marched, lobbied, and practiced civil disobedience to achieve what many Americans considered a radical change of the Constitution. Few early supporters lived to see final victory in 1920.
Passed by Congress June 14, 1919 & ratified ugust 18, 1920, the 19th amendment granted women the right to vote. African American women were. It granted the right to vote until nearly 5 decades later. I’m unsure if my rambling makes sense? I’m grateful for what we have that women before us didn’t but it’s completely natural with the evilness & divide in this country to feel we are going backward.
Tru that . ❤😊 @@kerryhill4470
Today March 8th 2024 is International Women's Day. It is to honour the movement for women's rights and equality and women's achievements.
This Helen Reddy song "I Am Woman", a song of women empowerment is a great song for International Women's Day.
I was born in the late fall of 1978. Awesome Recording! Awesome Song! Vote Democrat all the way in November 2024 for Democracy, Equality, and Freedom for all citizens of the United States of America from all walks of life!
This was our anthem, and uniter, when it came out, and it still inspires me!

Too many women on this earth are still, sadly, under the boot of "the brother"
Go fix it.
This Song Reminds Me Of My Grandmother Who Was All Woman, Who Didn't Take No Mess Off Nobody.
My mother played her 45 of this often. We know too much to go back and pretend! Vote like your lives depend on it.
I used to think this song was corny, but the message is brilliant, especially now that the US wants to take women and the entire country back to the 18th century.
Thank you, Helen Reddy. (I will proudly play this song on my radio show.) There are women and men who need to hear it and think about it.
I graduated from high school in 1972, and this song became the anthem for me and my girlfriends. It embodied my mother, who had to get a job to keep a roof over her 3 girls' head, when my WWII submariner of a father succumbed to alcohol from PTSD.
You mean the part: “I am still an EMBRYO with a long long way to go”
Acknowledging an EMBRYO if not ABORTED will become a powerful woman
To the 18th century? We're in uncharted waters. They want to give everything that belongs to women to men who claim to be women. Men with penises claiming to be women are declared winners of women's swimming competitions, etc. No, women need to take back what these imitations are stealing from our mothers, sisters, daughters, nieces, aunts, etc. And get the cross dressing *******s out of women's bathrooms. Enough of playing with the language. Enough of "Identifying as a woman" or "identifying as a 6yr old girl when you're a grown man - that doesn't count - only your chromosomes count.
Yeah, exterminating your child is so ‘empowering’. So strong, so enlightened. Here’s a 21st century sentiment; take responsibility. Use protection.
@@sumdrumkid1989 If you want to stop "exterminating" children, end war and oppression, both of which often cause situations leading to abortion. And lots of pro-lifers discourage contraception.
Yesss love it

Such a devastating day today here in Merica... Nothing else.. Helen Reddy, thank you for your wisdom...
The events of yesterday made me think of this song. We need to keep fighting for a woman's right to her own body.
Yes, it took me a week to calm down enough to talk about it. I'm enraged. We are the only majority in the country, but we just lost an almost half-a-century right.

Happy International Women’s Day!
I Am Woman / Lyrics
I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend
'Cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
And no one's ever gonna keep me down again
Yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I've gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
You can bend but never break me
'Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
'Cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul
Yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I've gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
I am woman, watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin' arms across the land
But I'm still a little embryo
With such a long, long way to go
Until I make my brother understand
Oh yes, I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I've gained
If I have to, I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman
I am woman
Hell yeah 👍

Love that song I can hear it over and over again all day yes I am woman hear me roar you can't take the rights away from me supreme Court
Let’s pray that Title 9 is upheld. I’m from the time before it was enacted and my college literally funded a school bus for the few away basketball games we could afford. We played in our gym suits, coach was our 73 year old gym teacher, used basketballs left over from the men’s team. That was the only women’s sport while the men had basketball, baseball, tennis, and football. Due to almost nonexistent funding, poor coaching and equipment, we never won a single game in m four years there. I graduated in 1964 and was so happy for the women who came after me in 1972 when Mr. Nixon signed it into law. Now it’s in jeopardy since men are competing against women.
I don’t care what Lia Thomas identifies as, as long as he has a gadget in his swim trunks, he’s a male! His lungs are larger, his heart is larger, his arms and legs are longer, his feet and hands are larger, and he has more stamina than the college female swimmers he constantly defeats, despite being a mediocre swimmer as a male. How can anybody think this is fair?
I played it like 100 times back to back
Very powerful hit song brings back memories

You have made a common mistake in your presentation of the lyrics. Helen does not sing "Born of Pain" but rather, "Bourne of pain." There is a significant distinction, here.
What is the meaning of Bourne?
a limit or boundary
Meaning of bourne in English
a limit or boundary (= edge): These matters are beyond the bourne of our understanding. literary. a destination (= the place where someone is going): She was about to depart for some unknown bourne.
52 years later and we are still struggling for equality aloosing reproductive rights. VOTE!

I grew up with this song from a very young lady. I do feel it had major impact in women !❤
My Dad sang this song throughout the house. Lol

I remember being a little kid…like maybe 5 or 6…and being obsessed w this song. I have a core memory of riding my lime colored banana seat bike while singing this song with such empowered abandon…it literally helped shape my sense of self worth in a world that largely ignored our existence…remember when this came out women couldn’t even open a bank account without a man! It’s honestly insane to imagine that was during my lifetime.

This song and message was probably a success in the US as opposed to the UK as there wasn’t an equivalent head of state like the Queen, or a female leader of a party like Thatcher. There wasn’t anything like the Suffragettes in the US either. I can’t think of any woman from US history that either led or were outspoken. Women weren’t (probably still aren’t) seen as strong/outspoken/leaders in the US which is more male dominated, so a feminist song like this (which is still very tame) was much more impactful and meaningful there.
The artist is Australian not American.
Australia definitely had and still has misogyny problems in parliament, look up Julia Gillard misogyny speech. Why do you think everything comes out of the US?!
How do you think we got the vote? Women protested, chained themselves to fences, were imprisoned, were force fed when they refused to eat, beaten and much more. Eleanor Roosevelt had a lot of power and influence when she was First Lady. Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Stanton, Lucy Stone were all responsible for organizing womens sufffage in the US.
