Well I've been playing bass for quite a while now. And here's what I've gotta say. It's his solo section. It's his time to do what he wants to do. Not the drummer. Secondly everyone's entitled to their own expressionism and originality with their instrument. He probably likes it as a soloist instrument. Who are you to tell him any different? Put any number of bassists in that situation they'd play stuff that's worlds apart. Someone might solo, someone may groove,slap ,sweep etc. It's their style
Because it's not quite true. Bass guitar and drums have to go together in a song, but during a bass solo, the drummer only indicates the tempo. His solo is actually quite amazing, in my opinion.
He has too much of a clear sound - he misses the meat for a slap solo. The thick fat Fender Jazz Sound. I sold my Markbass head because I could not get the meat. And there is no support of keys or guitar rhythm playing during the solo. You are right - a bass solo needs high energy and groove. Otherwise people start talking while you play ;-)
