- We catch Amtrak Acela in First Class from New York to Philadelphia. This is just a short trip by Acela in First Class as there was a derailment south of Philadelphia earlier in the day, which made this trip a little unusual.
Acela has 2 classes of service - Business Class and First Class. This is the premium class of service offered by Amtrak on any of their routes.

I'm so glad I watched this first-- I don't think this is work the $240 😅
It is a steep price for a not so great service. That said, it's a mostly pleasant way to travel
How many kgs of luggage can we carry for a single person ?
It's not strictly enforced by weight. The Acela though is targeted to business travelers and therefore is not great for luggage space. If you have a lot of luggage you're probably better taking a Northeast Regional .
Great upload Mark - I do enjoy your candid comments re scenery & onboard food. That Train Hall & Lounge is first class for a public transport system. Can't wait to see a review on the Acela replacement when it eventually gets to run - the carriages seem amazing. Have you been on the Brightline private service in Florida yet? It seems to provide a premium service that Amtrak could learn a few tips about re trying to meet customer expectations on train travel. Thank you for sharing.
Went on the Brightline last week Dennis. Video coming. It’s a very limited route, but head and shoulders above Amtrak or the local Florida trains. Of course it’s easy when you’re just running between 3 stations, but still, a really nice service
@@TravelwithMark Yes a valid point re Brightline only servicing a very small area although it is expanding to Orlando & eventually Tampa I understand. Hopefully, with the interjection of recent much-needed funds, Amtrak can rebuild its aging infrastructure & trains. Unfortunately not owning most of the railway tracks is a major disadvantage. Amtrak is a very unique train experience, especially with its long-distance trains & traditional dining. Looking forward to your Brightline upload Mark.
Was just reviewing my Brightline footage. It really is a nice experience. Premium lounge with free food and drinks of a reasonable quality. Doesn’t have the grandeur of the New York Metropolitan Lounge, but definitely ahead of the other lounges in other cities. Trains and stations are new, which also helps a lot I guess
Nice video, thank you Sir.
Thank you David
Nice
Thank you Gerard
About how long are you underground for?! Thinking of taking this trip but hate being underground lol
Well there’s tunnels, and Penn Station is underground. It’s not a long time, but then I’m not too concerned about it. I think about 10 minutes after departure from New York and it’s over.
Do you think you'll do another Amtrak Acela Express First Class review between Boston & Washington DC?
I’ve never done the full stretch Kirk. I should try it
@@TravelwithMark There are not much videos of anyone doing a review of the Amtrak Acela Express First Class review between Boston & Washington DC. I highly reccomend it.
I will take it on! I do have one I’ll be doing shortly on NYC to DC in First Class. Please make sure you subscribe so as not to miss it!
Cool can’t wait to see both between Boston & Washington DC, & NYP & Washington DC. Double Treat.
Is this Moynihan Hall just Penn Station with an upgrade?
It’s a very nice addition to Penn Station. It’s Al connected underground, but very confusing right now. The Metropolitan Lounge is for passengers with a sleeper, or First Class ticket on the Acela. It can be used both on departure and arrival
