I live on the east coast of Florida and during thunderstorm season I get all excited when the cooler sea breeze is coming in strong after a hot ass day pushing all the hot dense moisture to the middle of the state. Then you see those huge cumulonimbus clouds exploding upward and getting darker and darker as they rumble with thunder and creep toward the coast. I feel like a meteorologist when i walk outside lol!
Dude that's awesome. I'm the guy in Illinois, that goes out in severe weather to watch it. Study cloud ☁️ direction, wind speed, cloud formations, cloud lowering, inflow, rotation or rotating clouds. Would love to go on a bucket list storm hunt.
I feel the same way! Great stuff during the summer months in Central Florida! I used to live in Central Florida from 1969 to 1971 in Satellite Beach when I was a child in elementary school. We had those summer thunderstorms almost daily in June,July and August! But back then, I was afraid of lightning and thunder. Now I love both of them!
Dan Smith; Where do you live ? If you like lots of heavy duty thunderstorms, but would rather not deal with the Florida crowds and traffic, spend a week or two during the summer months in southern Mississippi, or South west Alabama and be sure to pick a location that is within 60 miles of the coast of either state to lodge. During the months of July and August, thunderstorms are every bit as common in that part of the nation as they are any where in Florida during the same time period, and it has been my experience that the thunderstorms in this region tend to be more intense even than most of the Florida storms. Night time storms are also very common in this region and it is not unusual for the night time thunderstorms to go on for 6 to 12 hours or more. This is also a region that experiences quite a few severe thunderstorms even during the winter months, and in fact, during the fall, Winter, and early Spring when the Midwestern tornado alley is usually quite, tornadoes are common in this region. Another area of the country that experiences some great thunderstorm action, especially during the summer months is the portion of the Blue Ridge escarpment that extends from just south of Asheville NC, south westward to about 30 miles NE of Rome Ga. Few people are aware of it, but during the month of July, this particular region of the nation is one where more thunderstorms develop than anywhere else in the nation ! Parts of this area are also covered in temperate Rain forest and rain or shine, the mountainous terrain of this region offers some of the most spectacular scenery in the nation. Up over 3500 feet or so, summer temperatures in this area are usually much cooler than the surrounding lowlands and valleys and from 5000 feet and higher, even during July, temps at that elevation can drop into the upper 40s ! It is quite often the case that the thunderstorms which are common to the entire Southern Appalachian region, are triggered by the huge temperature variations between the higher slopes and the much warmer, even hot, lower valleys. For instance I can recall driving from about 2800 feet near Asheville NC, where the temperature was 98 degrees, up to 5500 feet on the Blue Ridge Parkway, where small hail was falling, and the temp was a chilly 55 degrees ! This was in the month of August if I recall correctly.
I'm from West Palm Beach,Fl and I just moved to TN to take care of my Grandma. This is Florida all the way. When I saw this video, it reminded of those really hot humid summer days and then the afternoon thunderstorms that would cool the temperature down a little. I miss Florida

I have a terrible thunder phobia and am watching this to overcome it. It’s hard! I cannot believe quite a lot of people actually love and enjoy it so much. Wish I had such strong nerve !!
Yoshika Evans I think of it as nature showing us her power. I just close my eyes and listen. The rain is like all earthy and sweet. And then the thunder is like the drum that beats and gives the rhythm. Praying for you friend.
Thunderstorms are beautiful. The magnificant cloud structure, the colors it create, the intensity, the spectacularity of the lightning and overall grandness. It really makes me feel alive.
Thanks for posting this one! As you can tell by my username, I really and truly LOVE thunderstorms! Nothing like a Florida Summer afternoon thunderstorm...in Orlando. Been there many a time when thunderstorms have occurred. The sea breezes from the west and east coasts hit each other, sparking strong storms with intense CTG lightning like this. Lightning is no joke, it's very dangerous.
I spent a month in Winter Springs and quickly learned Florida thunderstorms are the best. I live in New England and they put ours Summer storms to shame.
Absolutely insanely close strokes. What a wild shaker. TOP TOP TOP !!! Greets from Germany,i love thunder and lightning strikes forever. He´s my GOD ;-)
This is the best thunderstorm video I have seen.Lots of lightning, loud thunder, high winds, and extremely heavy rain. This gets an A+ in my books. If Nashville gets a storm like this, you better believe I will film it.The catch is I have to do it inside a building or a garage.
I used to live in Key West. One afternoon I cut through the cemetery to get to my house on Passover Lane when a storm came up and lightning all around. I thought I would be struck, and cremated in the cemetery at the same time. How convenient.
Very cool! I'm stationed in the Philippines and we get pop up storms like this. I'm in the north, which is mountainous. The city is in a valley so the thunder echos. Thanks for posting.
It rains so often here in Florida during the summer but man is it dry in spring. And during a year with an extended drought we can go half the year or more with barely any rain. From October of 2016 to late May of 2017 it rained a total of three times in my area. I couldn't wait for the summer rains to begin!
By the way, just last Friday night,a very intense storm ripped through Middle Tennessee including Nashville with high winds, but not a lot of thunder and lightning. This storm knocked out power to 40,000 customers in Nashville alone.A storm like this one would do even more severe damage.
Kalen Shah yes. Expect this to happen at any time without any warning. It will be sunny all day, you'll go inside for 30 minutes, and it will begin to sound like a train has crashed into your walls. Enjoy :) I love the storms
We get storms like this in parts of Houston during the summer. The lighting is rarely this intense though. Storms from daytime heating, the sea breeze and deep tropical moisture in place often have the worst cloud to ground lightning. Throw in a cool front or upper level disturbance that passes during the afternoon and you can get some pretty intense storms. These storms are usually small cell storms that will hammer a small area. While it looks like this in one place, it will be sunny somewhere else. I have seen it go from a hot, sunny day to looking like this in minutes. After the storm passes the sun will come back out.
Yeah these are just some isolated storms, I lived in florida when I was younger. I used to get caught in these storms most of the time in the summer, but it only lasts for like 10-15 minutes, but it's still a strong one
I was hiking on top of a mountain in Phoenix Ariozona when a storm like this hit. Except there was 10X the strikes and they hit so close you could see rocks glowing red hot and feel the shock through your feet. Why am i not scared of this?
I remember as a kid being in an evening FL thunderstorm and being scared out of my wits. It was non-stop lightening and loud thunder. I just wanted it to stop, and my mother and grandmother were laughing at me for being so scared.
if we had a storm like this, we'd have a massive influx of service of fried computers coming into the shop. Lightning is nuts! I've seen chips on motherboards blown apart because they were plugged into the modem at the time of the storm! Its crazy how it can take some stuff out and other things are fine though.

Thunderstorms in Connecticut used to be this violent too around the late 2000s early 2010s
