Its a mixed bag for me. He showed too much to be underrated and I rate him highly even in test cricket. He was a Wisden cricketer of the year in 2013. At his best he looked like a legend and could have developed into an all time great. He debuted in tests at 19 with I think one first class match behind but he went and practiced with the West Indian team before the 2000 tour of Australia and was picked that way.....I think. Check out his first ODI century v India at aged 21 or 22.

In fact, the most six he ever conceded in an innings prior to this game was 2. All that changed when Samuels got hold of him and hit him for 5 sixes! Yes its true that those deliveries weren't actual Yorkers but if you were to really analyze Malinga's bowling, while he does bowls more yorkers than everyone else, he does miss his length a lot. The thing that usually saves him is that because of his sling arm action the ball when its a bit short doesn't bounce as much like it would for other bowlers and it would skid. This is why even his half volleies are hard to hit because it is difficult tonget under it. Also when he is too full, again because of his sling arm action the ball usually stay low and hit the bottom half of the bat. While it is not impossible to hit his full tosses, it is difficult to muscle the strength to clear the ropes. In the end, this was an epic display of batting power against one of the best t20 bolwer of all time. I have no doubt that this onslaught by Samuels gives Malinga nightmare yo this day. 0:31 Malinga tried a leg stump yorker and miss by a few inches and Samuels sent it flying 87 meters! 0:47 Malinga actually bowled a good yorker but because it was on the off stump it allowed Samuels to free his hands and send it flying 80 meters 1:04 Malinga tried his slower ball but Samuels was able to pick it and sent it flying 85 meters! 2:00 Malinga tried his wide yorker but Samuels was able to create room by clearing his front foot and smashed it for a 4! 2:15 Malinga who now was getting frustrated tried a short pitch delivery which was well directed and suprised Samuels but he was able to still send it flying 68 meters! 2:29 Malinga tried to bowl his famous yorker but miss the length and Samuels sent him flying 108 meters! Some crickets are great and some have had great moments. Others pile up runs but when the team really really needs some runs they often fall short. I am sure Rohit Sharma, a brilliant batsman by the way, would trade in one of those centuries he scored in the last world cup for a 75 in the game India was knocked out.
