    Hey Leo, I finally broke down and got a tablesaw, and I'm going through your vids for some 1 armed table saw tips . . . But it seems that a left and a right arm might have some fairly distinct differences in technique.
    So, do you know any full-time righties out there? I could use some technique visuals getting started.
    Thanks again brother!

      Hello Matt, good to hear from you pal and yes I noticed you’ve gone for a table saw. Sorry to hear about the flat bed issues and hope you get it sorted out. In terms of table saw usage for a righty, you might be as well reaching out to James @OneHandedMaker in Australia. He is a fellow one hander and right arm too. Here is a link to his chess board video that you can catch a little bit of his table saw use. Great guy as well 👍. th-cam.com/video/CLxnC3R1gok/w-d-xo.htmlsi=f7laB4Up3frqFRw4

    Just ordered mine Leo. I love my Rage 5S too. This just about completes it! I did look at Evolution for something like this but I couldn't see anything. I think this will keep this old geezer a bit safer. I am 70 at the end of the month and the fam want me to give up power tools. They have two hopes. No hope and Bob Hope! 😂😈😂

    Hi Leo, my Evolution 5 S, which is 5 years old now, came with a kill switch attached as standard. I can't understand why they did away with it? However, the one demonstrated seems to be a must have accessory and works really well.

    • @Hand-i-Craft

      Crazy to think in the design tweaks and midlife upgrade they decide to do away with the most important safety component on the saw, especially considering where the on / off switch is 😳😳🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

    That little fence attached to the big fence should it be used all the time?

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m no expert in any way pal, but my understanding is this. You are ok with just the main king fence if cutting sheet goods like MDF, Ply, OSB etc because they are pretty square. The smaller fence (fixed to the main fence half way ish along to the blade) should be used for cutting timber as the natural variance in shape could cause the timber to pinch against the fence increasing the risk of kickback. With the smaller fence attached (and the riving knife fitted of course) it gives the timber space after the cut reducing the risk of kick back 👍👍

    Thanks for your efforts there. Its nice to find so many owners agreeing about this design issue. I have owned mine since late last year & I spotted this failing first time out with the saw. At £12 & P/P its a no brainer. Wish you had posted this 24hrs ago because I spent a couple of hours in my garage today making something quite similar. But for the price of £12, I would of ordered one straight off.

    • @Hand-i-Craft

      Great idea Ryan. Someone suggested this for my planer thicknesser as I work around the back of it as I push the wood through with my left arm so I’m the other side of the kill switch if that makes sense. Need to come up with an idea that won’t invalidate my warranty on it 👍

    • @lochaberryan
      @lochaberryan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a fellow Rage 5-s owner can I ask, do you ever get blade 'wobble' while cutting? I've had this a few times where pieces have been ruined halfway through a cut, despite everything being tight and set up square too.

    The very first thing I added to my Rage5S, I have my own 3D printer so it was easy to do, another good addition is to fit a soft start makes it much more pleasant to use, have you considered using featherboards to add a little pressure both down and on the side of the workpiece I would be a little concerned regarding kickback due to operating the saw with one hand, the featherboards should decrease the possibility of this

    Hi Leo Love your honest video's. I along with a lot of your followers noticed this flaw as soon as it arrived. I did see on one other 18 month old vid the chap had a kill switch, when mine arrived i thought they have gone backwards. Yes i too have ordered a kill switch from France. Question. Every time i turn my saw on there is a very loud kerlunk sound.( is that a word?) Is this the lack of a soft start system that causes the saw to "jump hence the sound" My evolution drop saw does not make this sound so i am wondering. Have written to Evolution but as of yet no response. Keep up the GREAT work.

    • @Hand-i-Craft

    Nice accessory! I think I'll be buying one of them at some point. It's definitely an issue that needs to be overcome and £12+postage isn't too bad. Many times I've experienced the same thing in situations as you demonstrated where I've been switching it off and cringing because I'm yet to get rid of the cut piece to the side of the blade. It could get jiggled into the teeth and become a projectile that goes directly to the face. Someone from the comfort of a sofa or bed will read this and say we should always clear the blade before going in front of the blade but in reality we all do it from time to time.

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s well worth it Andy. It really does make it safer to use. As much as we think about safe practice sometimes our guard drops. At least with this you don’t have to think about dropping your head to saw height anymore!

    • @sawdustandsurvival
      @sawdustandsurvival 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea definitely. As it stands you've really got to get your head down there to look for it whereas with this I bet you could just feel for it and keep your eye on the blade until it's off.

      Thanks Andrew, very good addition to the saw. I have to say the dust collection is awful and I have it set up to a decent M class extractor. Table saws in general aren’t great for dust collection unless you spend the big bucks, but this is a big negative of the Rage 5-S

      Ok got it. I hope. The spring rods on both ends serves as extended wing table lever adjustment. After adjusting, the wing now tighter. And you are right: top is too high! Adjust the 2 screws on the lever and voila.
      Now happy camper. Thanks Leo.

    This is weird. I have an older version of this saw (with the slightly less good dust guard) and it already has this kind of on off switch. (eg the version in the image here masseys-diy.co.uk/product/evolution-rage5-multi-purpose-table-saw-255mm/ )

    I reckon with a single piece of wood or bar you could connect the handle ends to each other so that it can be moved more easily with one hand by putting pressure in the middle of the machine rather than at one side or the other.
    I shortened my handles for a reduced footprint when open, but in your situation I'd leave them full length for max leverage with one hand but I'd definitely connect them.

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I saw your video Andy about trimming the handles and it was a great solution to your quandary. Thought about putting a bar across as I done it with a wheelbarrow and it worked a treat!

      Oh yes I recall that now you mention it! Definitely sounds like a plan. Not sure about you but I don't tend to get the saw out that often and tend to use it when I'm doing loads of cuts in one go.
      I got a couple of bargains recently! New Makita 4350FCT (jigsaw) for £90 and new Makita KP0810K (planer) for £120! Turns out a decent jigsaw is so much better than the Aldi ones I've used in the past. A world apart in accuracy and blade drift.
