Zandvlei used be one of the most abundant estuaries in the world. Used be my fishing spot as a kid. Always caught fish. Steenbras, Stumpnose, Garrick, Kob, Elf, and millions of mullet used to spawn there. The same with Milnerton lagoon. Today they are both filthy, neglected and a bio-hazard. Shame on the COCT and the DA for doing nothing to clean it up or rehabilitate it.
So you can use treble hooks if you are using lures but not with bait? I thought it was no trebles at all and have cut the third hook off of almost all my lures 😂 But I see Lian using a treble there after you said no trebles
Hi, thx for noticing. yes the law was broken unbeknownst to me and was pointed out as well. Good for spotting the infraction. Lean was notified. 🙃
@@FishingBruZA Ah thanks so much for the response, much appreciated.
The Catch and Release Notice Board clearly has the words "Applies to indigenous fish only" towards the bottom of the board. Surely that means that certain species caught at Zandvlei di not have to be released
Thx for the comment, here's a link for info zandvleitrust.org.za/archive/fish%20list.html is a good read for Zandvlei. "The Sharptooth Catfish, although native to South Africa is in fact an alien species to many of the waters of the Western Cape, it is proving to be a highly invasive predator." That's pretty-much the info I found with a quick search. Maybe there is someone out there whom can give us better clarity.
Roeds Botha commented: "Why does his spinner have a treble hook? 🧐" Thank you for viewing and noticing Roeds. My bad, I missed that one and will definitely point it out to Lean (to change to single hook). Rules are rules 👍.
Is a spinner not classified as an artificial lure?
Artificial lures are allowed to have treble hooks under the Code of Practice for Freshwater Recreational Angling in the Western Cape < Fishing Tackle and Baits < General: "Use barbless hooks and single hooks, in preference to treble hooks (unless art-lure fishing)"
Where do we get permits to fish there?
Post Office or online. Normal sea fishing permit, that's all.
