    This by far is the best instructional video on the internet for this procedure. A couple of things to consider when doing this on a older pump. I had a 2018 Power Flo Matrix Pump that was a 1.5 HP that was leaking badly. To get the impeller off on an older unit it is best to have a second person to help you. In my case I had a flat blade screw driver and what I did was take some vice grips and clamp down on the screw driver with them. I then had my wife hold that screw driver in the slot on the back of the motor shaft using the vice grips as leverage. I was then able to use my hands to spin that impeller off counterclockwise. I was unable to do this by myself trying to hold the screw driver in my right hand and spin the impeller off with my left hand. The other thing to really pay attention to is the orientation of the housing seal. Mark explains in the video how to correctly install the impeller seal with the metal flat part against the impeller. The seal that goes into the housing is not the same on both sides. You need to pay attention to how the old seal comes out. I used a socket to tap the seal out. I also used some anti seize on the threads of the 4 quarter inch long bolts that go into the housing.

    Thank you for making this first-rate video! Following the procedure you so clearly explained, I was able to successfully change out the seals and o-rings on my PowerFlo pump and restore it to running condition. Your clear, close, well-lit shots were a great help, as were the tips you provided about sequencing the screws when retightening, care about retaining the long bolts, installing the seals correctly, etc. Much, much appreciated!

    Great video! I have the SW1594 model and had to use an Allen wrench in the impeller and pull my motor apart to get that impeller off. While trying to get the motor back together, what looks like the capacitor plates kept getting bent by the bearing on the shaft. Needless to say the pump now doesn’t run in high speed. It’s like a kick in the pants 😂

Followed your video every step of the way and I had very little issues. My model was slightly different than yours, but all the steps were the same and an hour later I was done. Hey Mark, great video on point. Have the same pump but the problem I'm having is that it's not priming. Suction is weak on the skimmer side. Check the hose from the skimmer to pump no problems there. Checked the pump for debris, nothing. I'm a new pool owner and the pump isn't even a year old. Am I missing something. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank u sir.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure your water level in the pool is high enough and the weir door on the skimmer isn’t stuck. If you have a sand filter, put the system on recirculate and if the pump runs good then you may need to backwash and rinse the filter. If the pump runs the same then you need to check your pump. Make sure nothing is cracked and that you have an air tight seal (o-ring, lid, housing, plugs) in order to maintain prime. You also want to make sure the impeller isn’t clogged. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.

    Hey Mark, thanks for the video! I had an issue when reassembling my pump, I tightened the impeller back up using a slotted screwdriver in the rear and hand tightening the impeller, but now the motor does not spin freely… is it possible to over-tighten the impeller? Thoughts on what to check would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you changed the seals, it is important to remove the seal that is on the impeller completely. Sometimes the rubber washer, part of the old seal sticks on the impeller and if not removed, putting the new seal over the washer can cause this issue. Remove the strainer housing and the diffuser cover on the pump and see if the impeller spins. When the diffuser cover is in place the impeller can rub because of the washer. Also when installing the diffuser cover do not over tighten. Thanks for watching.

    Is there a way to relate this to the Power Flo XL. My strainer basket goes on sideways without the c clip on the outside. Just wondering if the play would make it leak since it’s not tight? What is the function of the outer c clip?

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies

      The Power Flo Matrix uses an o-ring between the strainer housing and the pump cover. When using the c-clip the housing will be lose but it should not leak. Thanks for watching.

    Hi Mark - great video thank you. Question for you. Because I had insurance money from pool damage and no time I did something I rarely do- hire work out. Guy did a great job with new liner and new plumbing but did not tighten the chlorinator and left the DE filter completely unassembled with top just sitting in with clamping bands not even on the filter. Ugh. So when I filled my pool it was actually leaking out all over my pump for close to 10 hours. We also had that unusual couple of heavy rains. When pool was filled I went to turn on pump and it blew the GFCI. Great, the pump was drenched inside. But boneheadedness aside, it seems like my pump gets wet inside every year to some extent. So I had this type of pump from Hayward for one season and the second season it started leaking. I bought a new one and had this in my garage for a few years. I found your great video and started to change the seal.
    I got to the point of removing the four screws. One did break off. Tried to separate the housing to get to the seal and the whole motor came out. Hayward is a junk comp. Why would they not put never seize on the threads knowing they would be in a damp environment. The housing inside where the motor is has considerable rust inside from one season. Hayward along with almost every company anymore just makes junk. It is a disgrace since these pumps are over $300.00.

    What would cause my pump to heat up?

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When a motor overheats it can be an electrical issue, you can have the motor repaired or replaced depending on the age and condition of the motor. If a pump is not maintaining prime it can also overheat. Make sure your water level is good and you have full water flow to the pump. Thanks for watching.

      If you use the right seal set, and all the parts are fine and you put everything back together properly then you should be good. Feel free to contact me and I will be glad to help, I’m available Tuesday - Saturday from 10 to 5 EST.

      If you changed the seals correctly and everything is tight, you may want to make sure that nothing is cracked. Thanks for watching.

    Ok you would do all of us a greater service is if you did this on one that was in zero for 5 years- you working on a brand new one is bullshit because you are not dealing with frozen screws

    That impeller does not come off that easy. I can’t get mine off.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the time the impeller will come off with no problem. When the impeller does not come off with ease, have someone else hold the shaft with the wrench and use a pair of channel locks on the impeller itself. You should be able to get it off, if not, you may have to replace the impeller if you have to break it to get it off. Thanks for watching.

    Next time you decide to show how to change deals use a freakin used pump because not one damn thing works as you stated it. My pump was 6 years old and the shaft had rust on it and you had to use vice gross in the rusted shaft and to take the impeller of had to use big channel locks to take it off. Hell I think anyone could take apart a brand new pump considering it probably never had water run through it or had been sitting in the weather working for 6 years. To me this video sucked because you didn't use a used pump.
