    I absolutely love watching your tutorials. I've actually watched them all. I've made several of your crochet projects. I'm working up the nerve to start one of your quilts. Juggling four kids plus starting one is scary yikes!!!! But wanted you to know to keep them coming. I love the home improvement series. I like your style and recreations so keep them coming!!! Can't wait to see what you do next!! Patiently waiting till next Wednesday!

    I've played piano for 8 years and I am about to start my 9th year. Your son should keep at it if he enjoys it because I love how I can play lots of songs!

    Thanks for the video. I inherited a piano and bench also and have the same lift off style piano bench. I also got my fabric on sale at JoAnn's. This will be my rainy day project today.

    A week ago I got an old piano bench at a yard sale for 2.00.! It does not open. It's got a tapestry seat that is very worn out. I'll have to check the underside of it to see how I can remove the seat and re-upholster it. Thank you for this video Melanie.! :)

      Thelma Grace1930 that sounds great! You should be able to unscrew the top and redo it fairly easily! Good luck!

    I have three staple guns, and it really just depends on the job which one I use. The first suggestion I'm going to make is get a staple gun with an inverted handle, total muscle saver! The lever on the handle is facing the front of the staple gun, where the staple comes out, which eliminates those stupid gaps you get under your staples if you don't have the right muscle to squeeze the lever and keep it flush against the surface at the same time.
    I also have an electric stapler, and a pneumatic one that came with my air compressor. It depends on the job, and how many staples I'm putting in, but the inverted handle staple gun is worth it's weight in gold if you're putting in more than a single staple in a project.

    I thought your video was great, very clear instructions. I just have one question. My piano bench is upholstered only to the edge of the lid....the fabric isn't affixed under the lid and I suspect if I tried to do this it wouldn't close properly.....do you have any tips on overcoming this or can you recommend any videos? I can't seem to find anything. Amazed by your craftiness! Thanks.

    I would have covered the staples with upholstery trim, and hot glue it down or use nail head tacks. Otherwise, nice job.

    Used sheet foam to replace my original cotton batting, several inches thick and much more comfortable.

    Thank you Melanie, that was very helpful. I have an old hairdresser hydraulic chair that I've recovered several times but never removed the old fabric:(. Next time I'll do a much nicer job!

    This video came right on time! I recently purchased a piano bench at a yard sale for $5.00. It was in good shape, however, one leg was a little wonky. Easy fix. My challenge is, my piano bench is hinged. I cannot lift the seat off. I want to paint it but I'm wondering if this could be covered. I'm thinking rhe bench may not close properly because of the fabric bulk. Any suggestions?

    • @MelanieHam
      @MelanieHam  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      silverteacakes does it currently have fabric on it? Or are you wanted to add padding and fabric?

    • @silverteacakes
      @silverteacakes 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has no fabric and I was thinking of adding fabric. On the fence about it.

      I have piano bench a lot like that and the fabric that was on mine was just a cushion with elastic so to latch on to the corners.

    Always staple corners first 😆

    • @number1bobo
      @number1bobo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, I've had professionals tell me to do the corners last. Start in the middle and work opposing sides at the same time to pull it firm. Then do the other two opposing sides starting in the middle, and fold the corners last.

      Jess Chappell disagree. Corners are always last. I’m an upholsterer.

    Get that piano tuned asap. Out of tune musical instruments are bad for the soul.
