    Recessions are where millionaires are created. I feel for the older generation, but if you are young or middle age, you should do everything possible to double and triple your investments.

    My husband is very much an emotional investor, while I’m totally “the markets are down! Time to use coupons and sell stuff so we can invest more!” To help him see the bigger picture, I give him a net worth graph from the time we started investing to now. Seeing the comparably small sips helps him not feel as anxious.

    I can say this about the automotive industry at the moment, vehicle prices aren't coming down anytime soon. Incentives to dealers are coming down and OEMs prices for new vehicles are going up. Supply/demand and with fewer vehicles to sell they have to squeeze out every inch of profit they can.

    I love the Money Guy Show and have learned a lot, and very grateful for their detailed information. I have been investing fully for 31 years, but long before this show came along, I’ve followed to Warren Buffett’s famous maxim “be greedy when others are fearful and fearful when others are greedy”. Even when I lost my job in March 2009, we had enough resources to make house payments, take vacations and for me to return to grad school full time. Essentially, economic turmoil does provide huge financial opportunities if one has the assets in place and keep a longer view.

    It’s a little hilarious listening to the folks who say either we won’t have a recession or that it will be mild. Economics is based on math, not feelings or hope. Every dollar that’s being absorbed by higher food, energy or housing costs is a dollar not being spent on other stuff. The dramatic drop in spending on other stuff will cause a deep and long lasting recession. It’s just math.

    • @chemquests
      @chemquests 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whether it’s mild or not depends how long our current state lasts. The speed with which inflation comes back down will determine the length (& depth) of any recession. Another factor is the extent to which China gets fully back to work; that could provide some juice to a recovery. The math extends over a wide range of parameters that can result in a sufficiently wide range of outcomes that we can truly say no one knows. It is possible we reach the bottom in 6 months or 2 years…not hilarious

    I have a question about the cash vs assets graph you shared. My question is that if that graph is cash compared to total assets wouldn't it naturally shift to cash in the event of a downturn? For example. If I have 500 dollars in cash and 500 dollars invested in the S&P 500 i would have a total of 1000 dollars. If the S&P suddenly lost 40% of its value I would have 500 dollars of cash and 300 dollars of S&P 500. This would cause my percentage of cash vs assets to skyrocket from 50% to 62.5%. Please correct me if I am wrong though. I would be happy to learn. Thanks for the great discussion though!

    • @14Ramjet
      @14Ramjet ปีที่แล้ว

      It isn't the percentage of cash vs total assets, it is amount of money invested. So, the top portion of the graph shows there is an influx of money at the times right before the market crashes and the bottom portion shows that cash reserves go up after the market crash but dip by the next peak. The chart would be completely different if it was cash vs total assets, as you described it would be as you described.

Has helped me gain a more long term, broader and somewhat removed perspective that is not guided by fear and panic. Instead, you helped identify the long term goals and frugal behaviors that I need to work on personally regardless of the societal situation I find myself in and have no control over. Thank you for these videos and for all the information you guys share freely. Have a great day.

      Definitely don’t panic. I think 80 percent of problems and issues are how we interpret them. If you are female, you are usually higher in personality trait neuroticism, and more heightened towards stress and anxiety. Check out Dr Peterson’s personally 2017 lectures. They will change your life.
      Financially, my wife and I are middle class, have our first home now with a mortgage, got it right before the interest rates went up, thank God. I try to keep her calm, as she gets upset and has anxiety sometimes towards things that come at us. My dad always taught me to be careful with spending and stay out of debt. Good advice for most people. However, I never took an economics class or learned about investing and risking money on potential positive cash flow. I am learning all I can. I am probably going to contact a reputable investment group to see what I can do. Do you have any advice as to hedge against inflation for the middle class? If you had an extra 500 dollars per month to spend. How would you invest it? Curious your thoughts. Thank you!!

    DCA into a 500 index and ignore it. When the market tanks, put as much in as you can afford. Try to look at downturns as a fire sale in shares instead of focusing on your portfolio value… losses are only realized if you sell. In every single downturn, if you stayed the course and bought at a value price, your efforts were rewarded.

A better measure is the labor force participation rate, which is way down and dropping for men.

    I wish they would have researched the car market a little more. Inside of LV, cars are being reclaimed by banks left and right and lots of bank owned cars filling up to point some towing companies are expanding there car lots. Individuals were given loans based on the short term income they got from the stemi checks and it wasn't checked against there income over a few years which sounds super odd to me but it happened. Now, people can't afford it, dealerships can't afford some of the cars they have in stock and have to resell them places like Coparts and auctions to recop there cost, and hopefully this will push prices down. How really knows though lol, I orginally came on here to see if the thing was happening in the non-bank mortage lending market. If anyone knows about it, pls lmk I'm pretty curious

      For anyone who is close to retirement, though, advice is simple and brutal. Take care of your health, and prepare to work a bit longer than planned. Only retire ( if by own volition that is ) when the market net value of assets reach pre-recession level.
