Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced her government’s plan to launch a mission to eliminate sickle cell anaemia by 2047. It is an inherited blood disease which is most common among people of African, Arabian and Indian origin. It is a group of disorders that affects haemoglobin, the molecule in Red blood cells (RBC) that delivers oxygen to cells throughout the body.
