- (8-6-2010) This mall is famous for Dawn of the Dead, I visited the mall in August 2010 to see its elevators and it definitely has a wide variety. The JC Penney Store is no more, sadly its beautiful Montgomery elevator is gone Facebook: / dieselducy

All of those elevators are a BEAUTY!
Except for the last freight Elevator. It's terrible

There is also two more elevators and one you didn't have access to at that time. Where JcPennys is now there used to be a Schindler 300a rt and the other on goes down into the basement and that's where the administration offices are I think. It is also a Montgomery.

Nope. Installed by Westinghouse in around 1984-85 during renovations.
Epic motor on the fast hydraulic freight elevator. It is 200 fpm, the fastest speed for a hydraulic elevator.

Why did the mall shot down
I think all the stores that were in Dawn of the Dead are all gone now. There's also been a lot of violence at this mall in the past few years too.

Was the JCPenney elevator original to the store? It opened in 1969

It's still here, I think they just moved to another spot in the mall.
But, where is everyone? They're supposed to be shopping at Monroeville Mall.
There's something inherently spooky about this facility, and it's not the fact that it was utilized as a backdrop for "Dawn of the Dead", either. There's a utilitarian plainness to it all that's just so....so depressing to me.

The new JCPenney is on the the top two levels of the former Gimbel's/Kaufmann's/Boscov's store, a Dick's Sporting Goods is in the bottom level of the space. However, the top floor of the space is not open to the public.
H&M is in the basement of the former JCPenney.

jc penny elevator sounds clunky. your right; it looks very nice. yeah that monty must be kept. brilliant motor sound. watching the interlock is fun. third service elevator is broken. its light is neat.
+dieselducy I agree with you there is no excuse if they don't fix there elevator they should be getting used to having to rescue people everyday.

Sadly the 4th Freight elevator is completely out of order.

So many HYDRAULIC elevators... two weeks ago I didn't know anything about them, AT ALL! There were no hydraulic elevators in the Soviet Union, there are no (or almost no) them in Ukraine... All our elevators, even if they serve 2 or 3 floors, are only traction.
