2:20 you skipped some crucial parts on showing the scaling of the main turbulent noise which wasn't even mentioned, a lot of new after effect users wouldn't even know what the changing was about and would give up cause it's complicated, we also don't know how you tweaked the turbulent displace effect that wasn't mentioned either.

There is the 'lazy' way, you use some stock footage of a hand drawing (you can find one on FootageCrate.com) and move the anchor point to the end of the pen/marker to control it. To reveal the images just use a paint brush transition effect as a matte and move your hand footage to mimic drawing it on quickly
