Excel et al. reminded me of the Hoplon web framework and this talk: th-cam.com/video/wVXjExRiFy0/w-d-xo.html :) Even some of the arguments and turns of phrases that Chris Granger uses are similar. Guess it's just the spirit of the age.
So I can appreciate the simplification of the concepts (everything is a table except for the functions), but is this not re-inventing business process engines? Take Tableau for data visualization. Eve seems to be a general purpose but similar execution.

Look on Blender and its node editor of graphic render pipeline. Nice example of diagram coding.
