- While my dad was out on a ride with me his bike developed a really loud noise coming from the front cylinder/head.
Was hoping a rocker arm broke or something simple but it was much more difficult than that.

Always check the lifters/pushrods first, loved the video, have a blessed week my friend
Thanks, you too!
Kudos to you for even attempting do do things to that bike that I would never try . Timing , adjusting the pushrods and disassembling the oil pump . Bet those lifters were cheap ones made by that big after market parts supplier on the east coast .
Thank you!
Good job! Always smart to look elsewhere for metal shavings, it doesn’t take long for them to migrate through oil system.
Thanks! Was definitely a project getting it all flushed out. I had to put the oil pump all back together on the bike as an exhaust bracket wouldn’t allow me to do it off the bike which was challenging
@@drmikemerkt I hear you, as challenging as it might be, I’ll take that as opposed to running down electrical gremlins on a new Harley/car with a huge computer & fly by wire!🤣
@@springersadventures7654absolutely!!
Very impressive I’m sure it took a lot longer to do that job than it seemed like it took it in the video. Yes, those roller lifters are the weak link. Your Dad is fortunate to have such a mechanical son who is not a hacker 😂.
@@Mr39knuck thank you, appreciate it. They certainly are, now I know!
Had the same thing on a 66 might as well pull the motor you've got metal in the lower end bearings
You’re probably right
No probably about it you've got bad shit everywhere @@drmikemerkt
Interesting content. Vlogging is not easy. When envolved in education and teaching going through teaching curriculum it is important to learn speech. It takes practice. Fishing out all extraneous word whiskers will make your presentation easy to listen to and suited to the task.
Thanks for the tip! Totally hear what you’re saying, content for my day job is a lot more polished as this was very much so going with the flow and documenting the journey as it unfolded as you can see
I think you may have some more work to do. That motor is knocking harder than a jehovahs witness
😂😂😂 in the video it definitely sounds that way. Time will tell hahah
Your breather is not timed correctly, it's one tooth off.
Correct! What I forgot to video is at one point turning the bike over to make sure the oil pump was hooked up correctly the cam came out of the hole. So I retimed everything and fixed that! Good eye on that, because it was indeed 1 tooth off
It depends on which breather gear specs you use, HD or S&S Cycle. S&S Cycle changed their numbers about 20 years ago but they also make their own breather gear which is a slight improvement over the stock one and has an oblong hole in the back area compared to a round hole on the oem version. I've tried both set of numbers and really haven't noticed a difference but they were on decidedly different engines builds. If you end up with some oil vapor spitting out of the vent line you may want to revisit the situation.
@@jimhmodthanks for that info! Actually my pink bike is always blowing a little bit of oil out of the vent line getting oil on the frame. I’ll do a double check when I do some maintenance/take the cam cover off.
