A heavy rain pounds against the rather ancient looking windowpane, the drops being illuminated almost eerily by the neon vacancy sign out front. Sighing heavily, you snuggle deeper into the blankets enveloping you, a deeply nagging and bitter cold seeping into your bones. It was a stupid mistake on your part for having dismissed your Partner’s previous jacket offering when you’d both found yourselves caught in the torrential downpour. But even a warm shower and now being bundled beneath a mound of blankets can’t replace the warmth you’re urgently seeking silently as you lay there, mind abuzz with a million things, a certain weight weighing heavy on your heart as time stretches on, the radio show becoming a distant drone. It’s no secret that Jack Reacher, the man so stoic and unreadable to any outsider and even sometimes, those close to him, is hurting. Has been since he showed up in Margrave to find out his brother had been murdered. And now, because of all that, he’s been shoved down a rabbit hole to unravel just who the killer was. Though that… is proving to be far more difficult than even he’d anticipated. The squeak of a tap is what pulls you from your thoughts, your glossy, tired gaze being raised to meet the shirtless figure working his way towards you in the yellow dimly lit motel room, his own expression one of fatigue. “You feeling any better?” Is all you can muster to murmur, another shiver dancing down your spine as you nestle deeper into the covers. “Not feelin' any worse,'' Jack replies, eying your evidently shivering form, a smirk tugging at the edges of his lips as he rounds the bed, pausing at your side. “You should've taken my jacket.” At this, you just huff in defeat, patting the empty space next to you in a momentary desperate attempt to get his warmth by your side. Reacher just chuckles, a soft “Funny,” falling from his lips, as he shakes his head, switching his attention to the nightstand where a few individually wrapped food items litter the surface. “I got a sampling from the vending machine.” “You always eat this good?” You joke with a yawn, catching the small bag of chips being tossed your way with only momentary difficulty. “I was hungry. Didn't think room service would deliver this late,” Is Reacher’s reply, his own item being grabbed and hastily unwrapped, the aroma of chocolate filling the air. “Chocolate? At this hour?” You laugh teasingly, motioning to the bar in his grasp. “Clark Bars are the best,” Comes the reply, a certain glimmer igniting in his gaze as the man now standing across from you continues. “Had these at every PX on every Base I ever lived at when I was a kid. No matter where we were at the time, Joe and I could always find a Clark Bar. You want half?” You wordlessly shake your head and set the chips aside, once more worming your way deeper under the covers, hoping your gaze holding Reacher’s is getting your message across… Silently, your Partner finally gives in, tossing aside the blankets covering the spot beside where you lay and settling in without them, a heavy sigh escaping his lips. “You alright?” You barely hear your voice echo back at you and you’re genuinely surprised when a familiar face appears in front of yours, Reacher rolling onto his side to face you. “I've slept in worse places.” “I don’t doubt that,” You chuckle with a yawn, mind becoming increasingly more foggy. “You’ve been everywhere, huh? Surely you’ve figured out what type of flower you find appealing.” Nothing but the rain against the windows and distant traffic fills the space between the pair of you for a moment, the rather obscure statement of a question hanging in the air. “Snapdragons,” He murmurs, offering a small smile. “Cool name, hard to kill.” “That sorta sounds like a certain someone I know,” You can’t help but laugh, a yawn escaping you as one final question draws on your tired mind, your tone softening. “Was there any more family I don’t know about?” Another pause - longer this time as mixed emotions flicker across the drifter’s features, before he finally answers. “No. It's basically down to Joe.” He trails off, a genuine look of agony twisting his features before vanishing as quickly as it had came, leaving Reacher appearing usually stoic once more. “If I hadn't had walked in that bar a few days ago - heard that Blind Blake song, probably would've been years before I found out he was dead…” At this, you frown, a genuine pain tugging at your heart, though an idea dawns on you. Rolling away from him for a moment, you flick on the radio at your bedside, the comforting sound of a familiar tune soon filling the air. “Well, even though the circumstances aren’t desirable, it’s been nice getting to know you, Reacher,” You murmur, passing the man at your side a genuine smile, to which he returns, albeit much smaller. “Nice gettin' to know you, too.”

I'd like to imagine that - either I or Reacher - booked only one bed and we fell asleep just talking and listening to music. And we both woke up cuddled up to each other.
And we're just friends, no romance involved. We met while Reacher was checking out a candy bar at the grocery store and I was his cashier. :)
