Every Jeep is a knock off one cause LEGO does not have an official one. So the destruction of the first one was just a theatrical exercise, nothing more imho.
The difference is the new LEGO jeep is made out of actual LEGO bricks, whereas the old one is fake LEGO bricks. Although yes, of course it's for theatrical effect. It might surprise you to learn that i don't hold a personal grudge against a plastic jeep.
