One of the rare occasions we see Riley and Huey’s parents and understand how much they’re missed by the freeman family. Another theory is that Jasmine reminds Huey of his mother and that’s why he is so uncharacteristically nice to her.
That is mr freeman and His Wife. Riley painted the picture for granddad. They talk about their parents in the old best friend episode… and Huey is a hero at heart who I think see jasmine as a little sister. He’s not characteristically nihilistic he’s characteristically a dreamer and a hopeful, yet a realist. Huey is massive Martin Luther vibes not Malcom.
The moment Riley said "I wish we had a few more hours" was when the teacher's job was done. The whole point wasn't to teach Riley how to paint, it was to show him how to enjoy it.
In real life, bob ross was a veteran. He went through war, and he trained men as a drill Sargent.
And when he left the army, i swore to never raise his voice again, and dedicate his life to helping small animals and teaching art.

You know I always assumed it was huey and rileys parents but grandad and his wife also makes sense
People have theorized that too but some throw it out as we’ve seen flashbacks of a Young Grandad and the man in the painting doesn’t look like him.
The bride is also wearing a very 90s style wedding dress.
I'm on the side of thinking it was grandad's wife, considering the photo was black and white when riley took it out of the photo album, huey and riley live in an age where smartphones already exist so i doubt their parents were old enough that photos were still colorless.
the show also specifically waits for the bride to appear on the painted house for the first time, while you can see the groom on the photo album, it wouldn't make much sense to only show one of them later than the other if it was their parents.
and the last thing is Bob's suggestion to riley saying "how about someone you love? maybe someone who isn't with us anymore"
is refering to a single someone instead of plural people.
Also it probably makes more sense for grandad to be more touched by his wife than his son/daughter and their partner

@@frijolitoazul4343add to this “theory” because it’s definitely the grandparents; that grandad is the one who made him take the class as “punishment”. So he’s really just paying it forward in a way and also NOW it’s undeniable that RILEY WAS HERE. To Riley he was hurt that when the paintings were good it couldn’t have been him right? 🧐🧐 So he had to SHOW grandad what’s up.
I like to imagine that all of his paintings are hints of where he hid the bodies.

This is my favorite Boondocks episode of all time. The calm art teacher turning out to be the most gangster mf was hilarious. And the final mural was absolutely beautiful.

Just because Bob gave a suggestion to draw someone he loved does not mean Riley wasn’t free to draw a couple. It’s not a mystery where every word literally matters. Bob didn’t know what Riley would draw & was making suggestions.
Next, why the hell would it probably make MORE sense for Grandad to be more touched by his dead wife than his dead children? I’m a parent & I can assure you burying my wife would be sad, but burying my child would be devastating! Far more marriages don’t make it after the loss of a child than parents giving up their children because they lost a spouse.
Finally, by that observation, why would Riley think of his GRANDMA before his MOTHER & FATHER when presented with the suggestion of someone he loves who isn’t here anymore? The drawing was his, for him. He wasn’t painting a picture for his grandpa, on his house. The picture affected Huey positively, too, which is why I immediately felt it to be their parents. I doubt this is even some sort of contested mystery. I’ll just rewatch the episode & google it & post an edit.
@@APrime25 yeah bob wouldn't know what riley would draw, i'll give you that, but his voice does echo when grandad is looking at the picture and bob does refer to a single someone when his voice echoes, but that won't be strong enough proof.
And of course a dead children is just as bad as a dead wife, if not worse, that would just depend diferently for everyone, the thing is that grandad seems touched by the whole picture, not just by his own child, that's why in my opinion watching himself with his wife would take him back to his old memories more than watching his child with their partner, but that's just another opinion and not strong proof.
And finally, riley was making paintings to show he has talent, but when his own grandfather didn't believe he did those paintings and called him a lier he HAD to prove he was the one doing them, and he HAD to prove it to robert, not huey or himself, so it does make more sense to paint their grandma to show more connection to their grandad and only their grandad, rather than their own parents, also huey is clearly shocked but not really touched, unlike grandad, if it was their parents i bet they would've shown some more reaction from huey too.
All of the above reasons are just opinions in my eyes, but my only proof is how the pictures are black and white, clearly showing the photo album is really old for an era where smartphones already exist
@@frijolitoazul4343 Alright, I forgot about this argument, so here’s the evidence:
1. As I stated, I doubted this was some contested plot point & it is easily googleable. Just go to the boondocks fandom wiki site & look up episode 12 “Riley Wuz Here”.
2. I stated in the beginning, I didn’t remember which parent was Grandad’s child. It’s the son. Grandad is Huey & Riley’s paternal grandfather.
3. The final mural is of his dead son & daughter-in-law on their wedding day. I already offered points above about why it makes the most sense that Riley would draw his dead parents, instead of his grandma.
4. How can we be sure the wiki is correct in saying it’s his son? I rewatched the episode & right before Riley leaves to go ask for the teacher’s help, he goes through a photo album to get the pic for reference. They don’t let us see the pic he pulls, but we do see some pictures. The pics we see are of Grandad when he was younger, possibly on his wedding day. He has his glasses on. In the mural Riley paints, the son does not wear glasses & has a neater hairstyle than the pics of young Grandad.
5. As I am married, I find it weird how you kept implying that the child’s spouse was just a “partner”. My wife is my parents DAUGHTER-IN-LAW, not just some girl I’m with. She’s the mother of their only grandchild. My wife has spent time w/ my parents w/o me present. If I go to my parents w/ my son for dinner w/o my wife, my mother makes her a plate before we leave. She asks me to text her when my wife gets home from work when the weather’s bad so she can know that she’s safe. They love her, too, & would do anything for her if she needed it. Regardless of the fact that the man in the mural was Grandad’s son, he was still looking at a painting of his deceased CHILDREN. I find your perception of what marriage is, & the relationships that are formed because of it, to be lacking. Maybe you’re too young to have been in a serious relationship, maybe both your parents weren’t around, or maybe your grandparents weren’t. That might explain how you devalued the child-in-law. I can only assume that had you known his son was the boys’ parents just means you would’ve considered the wife to just be his son’s “partner”, but it’s deeper than that, fam.
Wait it couldn’t be a grandma cuz in episode 3 Huey said he never saw Grandad with a women to the point that when Huey was 3, Huey thought Grandad was GAY. So he should have been confused who the women was if it WAS Grandad and his late wife

Dorothy is named after Dorothy Dandridge, if you look at the comics, he has a crush on her. And there are photos of her in his little bar in the basement in later scenes.
