I found one of these babies on the kerbside while dropping my mum off. It was caked in grass but looked in good shape. It had a missing starter. I used a drill to test start and it firef right up. Trouble is they are known for failing starters and I couldn't source one so got a Sanli starter, carefully drilled new holes in it, cut a portion of the starter cup off, used three bearings off a kids scooter as spacers to raise the starter about 1cm and it worked a treat. Sold it soon after for a nice profit.
Hi James, good to hear from you again! I’m not surprised that parts is an issue for these mowers but good on you for McGuiver’ing a solution!! Cheers Drew
@@DrewFixIt I was motivated by the fact here we have a perfectly functional mower with plenty of life in it but for a mere pull starter mechanism. It was unsellable without one and had seen another done that way. It looked good with the adapted standalone round starter. The original is integrated with the engine dress cowl.
Thanks mate! Out of interest, I've been toying with the idea of making up some "Save the Victa's" T-Shirts is this something that would interest you? Just trying to gauge if it's worth my effort or not :) Thanks in Advance! Cheers Drew
Hi Norman, thanks for the comment I expect with minimal maintenance they will actually run for many years, however given they are so cheap people don’t want to get them repaired at all and just view them as a disposable item! Cheers Drew
Great to see another video Drew.....The mower brushed up well with a clean....I was surprised how dirty the bowl was...But yes it was quiet and did a nice cut on your lawn...Looking forward to more videos champ.
Hi Drew, Thanks for your info. Sorry if this is an annoying question, but do you repair lawn mowers for other people at all? If so, where are you? Thanks
Hi Lyn, I only work on my own machines as what I do is just a hobby and I have a day job which actually pays my bills! What I really do enjoy is being able to help others by making these videos so that they can repair own machines and in our own little way save a few dollars and save the planet from landfill that is unnecessary! Is there a particular topic or video that you would like to see? Cheers Drew
I have one of these. It was running fine then i stopped to empty the grass. Wouldnt start again and the fuel is leaking straight through the carby/air filter. Any hints on how to fix it? Im not great with this stuff.
Its terrible the amount if good appliances that are slung in the skips at the local container part for the sake of a carb clean, a new plug /filter or a starter cable.
Hi Bob, at about 4:50 in the video you can see in the middle of the screen you can see a spring gown up to a metal tab. Just bend the metal tab down a bit to lower the RPM. If that increases the RPM then bend it up 🤣🤣 Cheers Drew
I have the same lawn mower, today I done my lawn mowing. After that needed to clean lawn mower, so I tilted it towards ,where the carburettor( red priming switch is). After that I tried to restart it, but now the cord is not moving at all. Plz suggest what to do.i need to fix it asap.
Hi There, I have produced a video for the correct way to turn a 4 stroke lawn mower on it's side, you can find it here: th-cam.com/video/jk_sH302KSA/w-d-xo.html If you can't pull the starter cord anymore, it sounds like the engine is now locked up and what my suspicion is that oil has leaked into the combustion chamber ... if this is the case, what I would do is take the spark plug out and see if you can pull the cord ... if my suspicion is clear it will spray the oil out of the spark plug hole! Cheers Drew
HI Drew, Off Topic a little, I'm Just after thoughts about comparing 2 stroke victa to 4 stroke Mowers Performance, Reliability, Weight and Etc? Are old Victa,s worth restoring? And what stage of repair process it's probably not repairing? I have one working Victor 2, another stopped years ago but l never threw out. I live on sloping house block and have walk the mower up and down 12 steps It seems the old victas are lighter than 4 Stroke equivalents? Cheers Adam
Hi Adam, I think the Powertorque Victa 2 Strokes are definitely worth fixing up. The biggest issue is the carby's are normally dirty and with a clean, new needle and primer cap they seem to typically jump to life. If you've watched a few of my video's they are nearly always the same issues, however the problems do vary and watching my playlist ( th-cam.com/play/PLor5qdyoV_nRbXGXoicf4BN42o4z-TgvE.html ) should allow you to cover off all the issues! Wrt 2-Stroke vs 4-Stroke in my opinion they are more powerful, lighter and easier to work on, however the downside is they need oil in the fuel and are a nit noisier! Cheers Drew
@@DrewFixIt Thanks Drew, yes l watched a few of mower repair videos in the past and this one today as well, Of interest are the Victa 2 160 lighter than most 4 strokes? I do enjoy using the my Victa especially in longer grass, they seem to better with more power, quicker, so l can have my reward beer sooner😁🍻👍
Not so fast Drew. I've lifted a Briggs vs Power torque and sorry to say the all alloy Briggs four stroke is definitely lighter. Plus the two stroke is heavier on fuel. Still like them as they tackle the thick stuff better.
@@DrewFixIt There is often a semi-rigid mesh filter inserted into the fuel tank outlet nipple. You can spot it if you remove the fuel hose from the tank and already know that it might be there.

Its almost always a fuel/clogged carburetor jet.

Nice job...Does that particular Aldi model have a fuel filter?...Also I would I have been interested in looking at the condition of the blades :-)
There was no filter from the fuel tank to the carby, possibly there was one in the fuel tank on the tap but I didn’t check! Cheers Drew
