Train With DPU For WWOT, 3 Fast Norfolk Southern Freight Trains, Kentucky & Ohio Trains, Cat Update

- Fast Norfolk Southern Railroad trains on the main line with a train being pushed by a DPU. 2 Trains in Kentucky and 1 train in Cincinnati Ohio. 2 trains were at interesting railroad crossings and one train was at a railroad wye coming into Saint Bernard Ohio near Cincinnati. Also an update on the black cat stray. I was trying to find some fast freight trains. These trains are fast for the northern Kentucky and Cincinnati areas. Not as fast as the ones I filmed in Camden Ohio but close so leave a guess as to how fast they are going. They were all 3 headed to Norfolk Southern Gest Street Yard in Cincinnati Ohio. The first train is at a railroad crossing in Walton, Kentucky that has a gate across it. The second one was in northern Kentucky at the top of the grade coming out of the Ohio River Valley. The last train was at a wye in St Bernard , Ohio known as Tower A. The last train with the DPU is dedicated to WWOT. Get well soon Mike! All trains filmed Friday, September 10, 2021. The black cat that showed up at my house is still here and is getting along with the dogs. I was gone but the kids played with the cat and they are wanting to keep her. I named her Norfie which is short for Norfolk Southern.

Most dogs are surprisingly affectionate towards cats. My family's Dachshund actually enjoys having our 4 cats around, and hates being around other dogs. Lol

It was, every car had a flammable placard and the telltale hopper cushion on front. Probably either ethanol, or crude from Canada

Norfie reminds me of a cat I once had, many centuries ago. My (then) wife found this kitten at the cafe she worked at. Figured that the poor thing had gotten separated from the litter or had been abandoned by his mother, Poor thing wasn't even weaned. We bottle fed him until he could eat solid food. We truly believed that he might not survive so we decided not to get to attached, which included not giving him a name. After a few weeks went by, we decided that we should bestow a name upon him, we decided upon "Trouble". Almost from day one, it had become a frequent occurrence that one of us proclaimed that the cat was "nothing but trouble!" Name just sort of stuck. Learned a lesson, though: Never give a critter a name they can live up to# And, yes, Trouble was a solid black cat.
When an animal picks you as an owner/companion, it can be very hard to let it go, believe me!

I’m so glad that you are keeping the floof. Norfie is a great name! You can buy wipes at the pet store to help remove the smell off of her. It amazes me how much knowledge you have about the trains, manifests, routes etc. Keep up the good work! 👍🏼

Thank you for capturing these trains in Kentucky and Ohio near Cincinnati, Ohio. The trains were moving at good speeds past your locations. It was nice to see that Chessie was being nice to the kitten considering how feisty Chessie is with the dogs.

I was worried that your dogs wouldn't get along with the kitten but Chessie seems to have adopted her. Keeping her clean and feeding her a good diet should take care of that smell, a vet check up is in order just to be certain. She doesn't appear to have been abused and seems absolutely fearless around kids and dogs. You may have a 'mouser' on staff when she gets a little bigger.
I will say that the first train since it was approaching the curve and a trestle the maximum speed was probably about 30 miles an hour and then second train going uphill was probably doing about 34 - 37 miles an hour. As always jaw tooth, appreciate your time, gas, money and everything else that you invest into making these videos for us! I saw these videos of yours to my father who is now 92 years of age, had two strokes and is in the wheelchair but he had 48 years of free service starting with the New York New Haven and Hartford railroad and then Penn Central and then ending with Conrail. I too worked for Conrail

DPU Alright! Shoutout to WWoT, hope you are getting better Mike! Also looks like Norfie is settling down with Chessie. Her back isn't arched too heavily and her tail is up in the air which means she's getting used to being around large dogs like Chessie. I sincerely hope she gets along with the dogs for a long time to come, as the kids seem to like her hopefully the dogs will pick up on this and be friendly towards her in future. Cats and dogs can get along it just takes them a while to sort out their place in the pet hierarchy when they are new.

Split point derail was what we called them, they work real good and also the new family member seems to be doing just fine, ours like sardines….
My wife gave the cat some tuna yesterday and she really liked it. I was filming trains so I didn't see how much she enjoyed it. I'm planning on getting the guitar out today and trying it out. That CSX jacket is really awesome! Thanks again Mike!

The healthy weeds growing between the derail tracks would indicate it hasn't been used in quite a while. 2nd train perfect example of PSR. On another note, since the kitten had b.o., I thought you might name it B [&] O. Good on you for rescuing the kitten.

U folks on the east side really get excited when u c a DPU. Out here in Az, It's common place 2 c them in the middle and on the end. Especially with PSR, trains r reaching 2.5 miles & longer in length! Keep the videos coming JT, always look forward to them. Ted

You named the kitten, Norfie is part of the family now. I'm sure the girls are happy. Dogs are pack animals. Once they understand that the kitten is part of the park hey should be OK with the kitten.

In the UK we call those derails "slip points". Useful way of stopping unauthorised access to main lines from auxiliary lines by trains or run away rolling stock.

Black cats are cool! I’ve got one. Good morning from Cass, WV. Rode Shay #12 yesterday and heading over to ride the Durbin Rocket today; after we shoehorn in a walking tour of Green Bank Observatory. Then the five hour drive back to North Carolina tonight. Ugh!

The “man” in black at the beginning of the video looks like the elusive Ohio “Middlefoot” larger than the “Smallfoot” but smaller than the “Bigfoot” and apparently not as elusive as the Bigfoot. 😂 Great video, you only need fast trains when they are 200 cars long!
